Index

Being an attempt to centrally organize the NexusProject.

There are three over-lists: one that goes by type, one that goes by author name, and one that goes by singular items. All items go on all three over-lists. Items By Type is divided into sublists, and each sublist goes in alphabetical order; Items by Author is a list of alphabetically-ordered author names with entries below each name; and Items By Name is one big list that also goes in alphabetical order. (If a name begins with "The", then stick it under the right spot for the next word in the name -- for example, /TheNexusScuttlebutt goes under N, not T.)

It's also customary to add a link under the Major District Indexes on the TheNexusProject page.

Try to keep the synopsis of your entry to one line, and don't forget to add the neighbourhood it belongs to in parentheses.

You are responsible for listing your own entries on these lists. If you don't, then your entry will be much harder for people to find and refer to.

(By the way, it's considered polite to add your entry to the Index using a minor edit.)

Items By Type

This is in five categories: Singular People of Note; Trade Establishments and Money-Makers; Societies, Families and Groups; Places, Neighbourhoods and Areas; and Items of Note. An entry only gets listed in one of these five sublists; try to determine which category your entry best fits into rather than putting it into more than one.

Done. Wow, that took longer than I thought it would. You guys are writing some cool stuff, though. Well done!

Okay. I did some reorg and tried to explain the categories a little, as well as adding a new one. This is because I thought the first half of the Index was kind of starting to fail in its purpose, which is to help people, particularly Storytellers, find something for a purpose -- sorry, this is my fault for not originally organizing it better. I've tried to make the specifics of these categories a lot more evident.

Singular People of Note, for example, are obviously good NPCs. I intended the original Groups, Shops and Companies category to help people find places to buy things and money groups and stuff, but I've realized that it was too broad. Thus, I've split it into two categories -- places where people buy things or services (now named Trade Establishments and Money-Makers) and groups / societies / clubs of people (now Societies, Families and Groups). The basic idea is that, if you want an entry for a trade establishment -- a pawnshop, say, or a brothel, or a mercenary company (which is a trade establishment rather than a run-of-the-mill group because they sell a service), or a trading company (the Yeskanero Family goes here because they're really a commercial group rather than a family) -- you look in the first one; essentially, this is stuff on which money is spent. If you want an entry for a group of people who are not specifically tradesmen -- a secret society, say, or a club (not a dance club but a group-of-people club), or a guild (a thieves' guild, for example, would go in the second category because they aren't, generally speaking, a trade establishment), or a school (these do technically charge money, but they're more like exclusive clubs) -- you look in the second one.

The fourth category, Places Areas etc, is basically intended as a category Storytellers can go to for setting flavour and good places for giant cinematic martial arts fights. The fifth and last category is the fuzziest ... it's just meant to be random plot elements, so if a Storyteller wants that indefinable "fluffy bit" to liven up their campaign, they can go there.

Anyway ... trying not to make this too complex. Just wanted to note my motivations so people can more easily figure out where stuff should go and why it's useful to put it there. The general idea is to organize this stuff by dramatic purpose rather than by super-technical definition -- People = NPCs, Trade Establishments = commercial story elements, Groups / Societies = clubs characters can belong to, Places = backdrops and places for characters to be from, Items = random unexpected stuff. Feel free to take issue with my organizational ideas.

PS: please remember to minor edit your additions to the Index so that non-NexusProject folks don't get annoyed with it indirectly for RecentChanges crowding.

Seems like a good idea and I agree with it. However, you listed acadaemies as being in both the groups and trade establishments. Was this intentional?

Of course not, and thanks for pointing it out. :) By the way, your Avenue was an example of something that I would put in Places rather than Trade Establishments, so I've moved it. Do you think the distinction isn't clear enough?

No, I think it is quite clear. I should have put that under places. Thanks for moving it.

On descriptions: I've been editing the ones that are kinda uninformative. When writing these, keep in mind that they are meant to tell people what the entry is about. Try to avoid adjectives like "scary" or "interesting" or "bizarre"; instead, describe why it's scary or interesting or bizarre. It's not that such adjectives are off-limits, but descriptions like "bizarre girl" aren't very useful; "artist with bizarre eyes" would, for example, be better.
