Notes on Character Starts:

Build your Sidereal as standard starting characters. Be aware of the following:

1) You will want to be competent enough in combat so as not to die. I don’t expect a bunch of combat monkeys, but you should be able to survive combat on your own.

2) Any of the published materials are available, with the exception of Ebon Shadow style martial arts. (Note: It is not available for characters, I didn’t say it was not in the game.)

3) Sorcery is available as a background at any level. If you would like advanced instruction, you may alter your Sifu background, Terrestrial Circle Sorcery replaces a Celestial Martial Art, and Celestial Circle Sorcery replaces a sidereal martial art.

4) You will want to be able to get you Int + Craft Fate rolls out of the way. I encourage you to put some points here.

5) I encourage the players to discuss their characters amongst themselves, and create a good team. To this end I will reward characters that have a direct positive tie with other characters 1 bonus point for each additional character they are tied to.

6) You may begin the game with a single resplendent Destiny for free. It has a duration of 1 century. It is the destiny you were trained under in creation. It also has 5 effect points remaining.

7) You can have whatever level of authority and such you wish in creation. Tie it into your initial RD outlined above. You don’t need to pay for any of the contacts, retainers, resources, etc tied to it, because I won’t feel bad for stripping it from you to suit my purposes. (Backgrounds you pay for with points are going to be fairly inviolate. Though if the story dictates it you can lose them. In that type of case we will work out a suitable replacement that we can work into the game. Example: Rook bets one dot in his salary at plentimon’s casino to attempt to achieve their mission. He loses. He loses a dot of his resources, but over the next few scenes in the story it is likely he will happen to gain access to a starmetal breastplate or other 1 dot artifact or an ally, or familiar or whatever.)

8) Backgrounds will evolve during the course of the game. If you pay for them with experience points in the 5 points per dot fashion suggested in the PG, they will gain plot immunity as above. If not, they are likely to have some plot immunity, but not total. If you think I am being unfair, feel free to let me know so that I may further act in a despotic manner towards your character for such insolence. J

9) You are aware of the history/current affairs of creation as outlined in the Corebook. At Lore 3 you are also aware of the information in the Bureau section of the sidereal book. At occult 3 or higher you are aware of the info in the Yu-shan section of the sidereal book. At Lore 4 you are aware of the info in the Dragonblooded fatspalt about the blessed isle. At survival 4 you have traveled enough to know the information from scavenger sons about a single given direction. At survival 5 you are either also aware of the general info about the creatures from the Creature of the Wyld book. Bureaucracy 4 gives you insight to the stuff in Manacle and coin, Sail 4 savage seas, etc. Use your own judgment and the guidelines above.

10) You may receive your salary based upon you allegiance. If you have chosen Bronze faction allegiance, you may take salary 3 for free. If you take gold faction you may take salary 2 for free, Unaligned Sidereals receive Salary 1 for free. You may increase this by spending bonus points, but salary 4 or higher is likely to get you censured at some point.

11) Although you may have a position of power in Creation based upon your RD, in Heaven you are an entry-level persona. Being a chosen of the maidens, a position at the Bureau, and the fact that the elder sidereal are likely to take out anyone giving any of the five score fellowship too hard a time, gives you some authority. However you may not take any celestial type of backing beyond 1 point. That said you may have a wide range of backings if you have been cross-trained in the various divisions or with the Celestial Lions or some such. You do receive Backing: Bureau of Destiny at 1 dot for free, and Backing (Your division) 1 dot for free. If you have chosen an allegiance (Bronze, Gold, Silver, Iron or Brass) you may take a single dot in that backing for free.

12) You are not currently assigned to any convention. You may have trained in one, and your RD may be tied to the goals of the convention you trained in or not, but you are currently a recent graduate and preparing for your first assignment.

13) You may take any of the martial arts from the published materials, except for Ebon Dragon Style. That is restricted to storyteller characters. You may have any of the styles from Voidstate's PDF. You may request any other martial arts, and I will be pleased to work with you on them.

14) You had a mentor who trained you. You receive a single dot in that background for free. You may buy that background up as usual; the more dots you add increase both the power of your mentor and the favor that he/she shows to you. You may (though it is discouraged) sell back your free dot in mentor for a single bonus point. This requires your explanation of how your mentor was slain. (I.E. I want a plot hook in return for the bonus point.)

15) You have partaken of the meat and drink of heaven, and have a regimen of daily exercise; you get your first dot in resistance for free.

16) If you have the prereqs, you may take auspicious aspects for your caste for free. (I'm not going to make you pay for a charm that let's me tell you what you should do.)

17) You may begin the game with 1 dot free in either familiar or allies. This may be raised as normal.

18) Silken armor (you may call them Heavenly Robes, gossamer weave, etc.) 3-dot artifact is NOT armor, and may be used in conjunction with Martial arts and other charms where armor is explicitly forbidden. It may be worn over/under regular armor, but this does add 1 to the mobility penalty total.

19) The Daiklaive is universal. You may purchase a standard two dot Daiklaive, and take the normal commitment and hearthstone slots, etc. Yet it may be in the form of any weapon you want. Flail, Spear, mace, Staff, removable fangs, tiger claws, fighting chain, dagger, etc. (It's magic for the sake of the maidens!) However, you may only wield one such weapon at a time and no shield is allowed. Alternatively, you may take weapons as stated in the canon books. Also, a typical, short or reaper Daiklaive may be wielded with a shield, as can a smashfist. You can ask about other weapons, but the answer is probably no. (In short: Take a weapon because it fits the character, not because it offers more dots.)

20) You may take lightning torment hatchets as Daggers with exactly the same stats/effects/requirements/etc.

21) Craft builds upon itself: Craft is dealt with like languages. Each dot let's you choose a family such as First age items, weaponsmithing, carpentry, etc. You roll the full pool for any of the families you have and roll as unskilled if it is outside your families. (Specialties add additional families or a traditional specialty, including SUoE, and MoS specialties.)

22) Brawl may use strength or dexterity to attack/defend.

23) You may roll your highest virtue for regaining willpower each day.
