Charm Relay

Mortal Thaumaturgy

These are SolarCharms.

Mastery of Small Magics (Szilard)

Cost: 1 mote per die
Duration: Instant
Type: Supplemental
Min. Occult: 2
Min Essence: 2
Prereqs: None

While Exalted may tend to eschew thaumaturgy in favor of sorcery, there are times when more subtle magics are both useful and appropriate. The Solar Exalted excel at everything a mortal human may attempt, and thaumaturgy is no exception. With the use of this Charm, a character may add dice up to his total (Ability + Occult) die pool to any thaumaturgy roll. This Charm does not impart knowledge, so it cannot be used in conjunction with Sciences that the character does not otherwise possess.

Sorcerer's Benevolent Touch (Ikselam)

Cost: 3 motes per success
Duration: Instant
Type: Simple
Min. Occult: 3
Min Essence: 2
Prereqs: Mastery of Small Magics

Most Solars consider the workings of thaumaturgy to be beneath them; many also, at some point, encounter a situation in which it would be beneficial to use their higher understanding of Essence for the benefit of a mortal comrade. In order to use this Charm, the Exalt must concentrate, and touch a person who is in the process of performing a thaumaturgic spell. For every three motes spent, he may convert one of the dice in the thaumaturge's pool for the effect into an automatic success. He cannot convert more dice than he has dots of Occult.

Overwhelming the Mortal Mage (Scrollreader)

Cost: 5 motes
Duration: One Scene
Type: Simple
Min. Occult: 5
Min Essence: 2
Prereqs: All Encompassing Sorceror's Sight, Sorceror's Benevolent Touch

A true master of the occult, such as the Solar Exalt with this charm, knows that to have the power to destroy a thing, is to control it. For the remainder of the scene, as a free reflexive action, once per turn, costing no motes, the Exalt may cancel any one Thaumaturgical effect. He may do so as if he were 'counterspelling' an ongoing attempt, or utterly rend asunder an established effect. If the Exalt cannot see Essence flows, he must guess if an item is enchanted, and his attempt for the turn is used regardless of the item's efficacy. Most such items are marked with runes, warding sigils, or the like, however.

Inner Furnace of the Golden Elixir (Quendalon)

Cost: None
Duration: Permanent
Type: Special
Min. Occult: 4
Min Essence: 3
Prereqs: Mastery of Small Magics

The practice of internal alchemy holds no perils for a skillful Solar alchemist, whose very viscera are infused with Essence. A character with this Charm automatically succeeds on all internal alchemy rolls. In addition, her usage of internal alchemy does not require the normal Willpower expenditure.

Miraculous Philter Approach (Charlequin)

Cost: 5 motes, 1 Willpower
Duration: Varies
Type: Simple
Min. Occult 3
Min. Essence: 2
Prereqs: Mastery of Small Magics

The Solar's understanding of the detailed interactions of alchemical reagents and herbal ingredients surpasses that of even the greatest mortal thaumaturge. Activating this Charm while preparing an alchemical draught provides two effects for the Solar: first, he can prepare the draught in any region of Creation, without having to have spent 1 xp to acquire the knowledge of brewing it in his current quadrant, as long as he knows the formula from one direction. In addition, the Solar may substitute carefully chosen alternate ingredients for those called for in his recipe, allowing him to reduce the Resources cost or the difficulty of any rolls to acquire components, by his Permanent Essence.
