Introduction

This project is meant to give players and GMs in Exalted a large group of useful animals for their games. This project originated from my own interest in having a decent sized pool of animals for Lunar characters to fill their Heart's Blood Background. In writing the first part of this supplement I tried to divide the animals, namely dinosaurs, as specifically as possible so as to avoid too generic of entries. After doing more research into the abundance of wildlife, I have, out of necessity, condensed some entries to cover phyletic orders and suborders, rather than specific species. This allowed to me cover a greater range of creatures and does not burden this supplement with what amount to many duplicate entries differing only cosmetically. I've also included a name of a real world creature I modeled the entry on for players who wish to add or expand on may do so. I have also intentionally excluded any sort of Wyld influenced creatures for now, like furred snakes in the North. In the future I hope to add these types to the list. Additionally I'll include some folkloreic elements as well as I can find them.

Although I have tried to adhere to modern biology and paleontology as much as possible some allowances have been made to inclusion of these animals in Creation, as this is a gaming supplement, not a general biology text. For all sizes I have chosen to err to the large end of the scale. For ease of comparison with length being from nose to rump, height to shoulder, or hips; for birds the length from head to tail. Some animals, especially birds, exhibit sexual dimorphism where the male can be up to 25% smaller than the female, another common example is widely different markings between genders. Mammals also exhibit sexual dimorphism but in the reverse direction with males being larger than females.

A description of the various ecological zones of Creation can be found on the Ecology of Creation page.

Obviously I have a lot of work to do formatting, organizing and stating things, but I just wanted to get stuff up as fast as possible to get things rolling. - Grimjaws

Holy cheez. Lotta stuff. I respect this. Thanks for doing it. As a detail freak, you have my eternal loyalty now. - Han'ya

Added a few hp to the Python entry. It's larger than a man, but has far fewer Hp. It's skin also provides a thicker protection.. it's harder to cut a snake than it seems. Lastly, I modified the strength and stamina to reflect the fact that after the first six feet you need an additional handler per 3 feet of snake. They kill thrugh strength. - Paincake

Excellent. Not being an expert, but a damn good amature naturalist, I'm sure I'll miss things like that. Plus I really do need to think about attributes for certain animals, as many of them will be at or below human average, for example birds, while very agile are not terribly strong and are easily injured. - Grimjaws

I had a thought after reading Compass of Celestial Directions: Yu Shan of reorganizing the page along the lines of how the Bureau of Nature is. Having two main catagories subdivided along type and function. - Grimjaws
