Mbwa mwitu (Cape Hunting Dog)
3 1/4 feet long (4 3/4 feet with tail), 2 1/2 feet tall, 80 pounds
This canine has a short coat with an irregular pattern of black, white and yellow markings unique to each indevidual. They live on the open grasslands of the Southeast and hunt medium sized prey, e.g. impalla. They live in pack of up to 20 animals. Unlike other canines mbwa mwitu do not howl, they hoo, an almost squeeking noise, to locate other pack members.
