Malfeas
by Scytheus
- "Bringing down the sharpest Steel, and using it to raise Malfeas"
- Sign above the door to Malfeas.
- "'Admiration's one thing / Lucid submission another / Our gracious heads of state / Our vacuous heads of state!' Damn! Pallid Din ROCKED!!"
- Satisfied concert-goer.
- "And did you see how Cacophonous Rose made like an Anathema on stage?!! She is too hot, dude."
- Fellow concert-goer.
Located in a ruined meeting hall in the southwestern area of The Lawless Front in Firewander is Malfeas (the club, that is). Here, on an almost-nightly basis, bardic bands put on shows of unbelievable aggression and spectacle. Here, only music unnoticed by the mainstream of the Threshhold is played. The music is loud beyond compare, angry and irreverent. It covers topics considered taboo in society, like Anathema worship, the Anathema rising to rule once more, political and social consciousness, etc. The vocalisations are more screams and roars rather than singing - which seems to amplify the air of anger and aggression in the gatherings as a whole. Such groups as Realm of Abysma, Pallid Din, and My Prodigal Sun perform there regularly and put on spectacles that must be seen to be described.
There are no seats in Malfeas and the lighting is close to nonexistent, save for the pit of fire that can be seen below the grid-metal floor. The floor panelling was "requisitioned" from Peleps Deknas' Iron Foundry in Nighthammer. The pit was once a basement area of the meeting hall. However, it soon became a depository for trash from all over Firewander. On nights of the concerts, the trash is set aflame to provide indirect lighting. Some of the chemicals haphazardly dumped there give off a heady toxin that acts as a hallucinogenic when inhaled. The dancing that goes on within is more like brawling. The walls within Malfeas have been "reconstructed" to angular slopes resembling an ampitheather -- that is, as well as they could be reconstructed given the meager resources of those who run Malfeas. They are two youths, who are only known by their nicknames, "Bolt Thrower" and "Drowning In Viscera". These two youngsters rarely mingle or fraternize with the patrons. However, no one seems to mind due to their consistent reputation of "Bringing down the sharpest Steel, and using it to raise Malfeas."
Rumours
- Listening to Steel makes you become an Anathema worshipper who wastes her time playing "Realm and Ruins" and doing Qat.
- The Wyld Zone in Firewander is actually the fault of the headless and their vile, ranting music. Telling them to sacrifice their parents to some unconquered sun god!
Secret
- Drowning in Viscera and Bolt Thrower are both Eclipse Caste Solar Exalted. They contribute chemicals to the filth below the concert hall that give off a hallucinogenic toxin when burned. That way bands with Solar Exalted members, such as Cacophonous Rose of Pallid Din, can cut loose and really give a show to remember -- and none of the patrons would be the wiser. Also, Malfeas is also a place where assassinations have been carried out constantly. The local authorities never bother to investigate the death of yet another lower-class punk at some Dragon-forsaken concert, and the other patrons see it as another poser who couldn't handle himself.

Nice. Great play on the 80"s view of the punk scene, and D&D/RPG's. - Issaru Actually, it seems pretty clear that it is a great play on the 80"s and early 90"s metal scene, given the reference to "Bolt Thrower" (a metal band of that era) and "Drowning in Viscera" (a song from the "popular" death metal band Cannibal Corpse). Besides, Steel is pretty clearly a reference to metal, aye? That said, I agree it"s pretty damned funny. -Anonymous Coward
Neat entry. It does need some unwritten links and to be added to the Index, though. - picky Moxiane
- I vote Cacophonous Rose and Steel, myself. And maybe one of the two owners, though that's pushing the numbers a bit. ^_^ -Suzume
Scytheus: Thank y' kindly Moxiane ^_^. I added a link in the index under the Places, Neighborhoods and Areas category. I hope that was the right spot.
