This is Kasumi's user page, highly unlikely to offer any particularly interesting content, but nice to have here in case I ever have anything to offer....

Well, as a start, I'll throw out a very small bone - I'm currently starting a science fiction Exalted game, with very strong Kindred of the East influences, and lots of mecha. I might poke it into an Alternate Settings page or something here when I have a little more time to familiarise myself with Wiki, but for the moment, here it is:


Transcendent (Word: ~450KB)


This setting is designed entirely for my use - hence, it is balanced for my own storytelling style alone (read: everything is more broken than everything else). This is also just the character creation document, and missing a great deal of fleshed-out setting, such as the Feudal Courts and Sanctuary.

Love the Transcendent setting! A few quick questions:

  • What do you mean when you describe the Fire And Stones Strike charm as the "non-mutant ninja Nazi frogmen version"?
  • Does Transcendent Hardiness Method mean that nothing can cause the possessor's lethal soak to be lower than his/her stamina?
  • And when you describe making new Martial Arts charms, what do you mean by "the normal level of power"?
  • Also, I may just be confused, but if Urge Override uses Athletics, and Urge Synchronization uses Athletics+Pilot, wouldn't Urge Synch be the only real choice?
  • I don't think it's ever explicitly stated: can you take more than one Anima Weapon? I would assume not, of course, but it seems too bad, really...
  • Just out of curiousity, who/what is Avrekhan (from the opening fiction) supposed to be? A Transcendent working for the Fae?
  • Having seen a picture of the Anubis Orbital Frame on your website, was the charm Retribution Without Distance inspired by the infinitely-cool Zero Shift?
  • Okay, one more and then I'll stop pestering: who does Blue-Haired Pilot Prana refer to?  : )

I played in the game so some answers:

  • the "non-mutant ninja Nazi frogmen version" is the version in the errata. convert 1 dice post soak damage to a HL.
  • No idea about Transcendant Hardiness Method. I was an ISP ^_^
  • The normal level of power for MA is Celestial MA
  • IIRC Urge Synch gives you your Athletics Dice as bonus dice. Urge Override lets you use Athletics, not Pilot
  • You can take all the anima weapons you want (but its much more sensible to concentrate on one)
  • Avrekhan is/was a badass Bevenolant.
  • Cant answer the last two. wasnt around for the designing :)

Thanks, Kraken, but I still don't get all of it. What made the original version a "mutant ninja Nazi frogmen" version? Too overpowered, or not enough? What distinction between bonus dice and regular dice am I missing? And I know he's a Benevolent, which is another name for the Fae, but why the War Anima, and disgust for the rest of the Fae, then? - DigitalSentience

I think the "Nazi ninja frogmen" bit is an allusion to the Errata, where several discrepancies in the original printing of the rules are jokingly explained away with the line "clearly, nazi ninja frogmen altered the text". - David.
I think David has the right reason for the "ninja nazi frogmen" there :), as for Kas choosing the version he did, I think the Errata version is alittle more powerful. - Kraken

I would guess (guess, mind you) that "Blue Haired Pilot Prana" refers to the blue-haired Max Sterling/Maximillian Jenius from the Macross arc of Robotech (and/or the original SDF Macross series that was plundered to create the English Macross arc). Max's superior flying skills were frequently sources of comment and occasionally sources of plot. -Wizard

Avrekhan isnt in a war anima, as far as I know, "merely" a benevolant crafted Mecha. His disdain for the rest of the benevolant is mostly because he was a prideful SOB and he's annoyed at being out in the wyld and being forced to rely on it, and annoyed at the way they embrace it, and indeed generally annoyed with the Universe the 5 founders made. Reiko assasinating him was a kindness really ;) - Kraken

As has been answered above, the reference is indeed to the F&S errata. It's probably worth remembering I originally wrote this document for a handful of IRC crazies :)

By a strict reading, yes. It wasn't my intent, but it'd make the charm marginally more valuable.

I tend to hold that Celestial MA aren't as good as Solar charms. Ctherin can invent MA charms at Solar level of power, and shove them in trees whereever they feel like. Ctherin are probably mildly broken, but at least they're not as bad as Wolves! (ugh :)

As you may have guessed, there's a missing Prerequisite - US requires UO.

You can! Kachiko actually has a Ranged Anima Weapon, I can't recall if she used it in the Bad Opening Fiction(TM).

He's a Benevolent, which is a malicious memory of the race that the Founders warred against in the destruction of the old universe. They order the Fae around because the Fae are what is to hand in the Wyld. I tended to interchangably refer to them and their mecha by the same name, which was a mistake, but probably helped in the heat of some crazy sessions.

No, ZOE2 took forever to come out in Australia, though I sure loved Zero Shift when I eventually got it. I just always thought it'd be a useful charm.

It partly refers to Max Sterling, and partly to the long line of PCs and NPCs in various mecha games we've played since that riff on Max Sterling and the growing rule that only the person with blue hair and the alien girlfriend can be the best pilot.
