Exalted: Kawaii Playtesting

Well, there's still various gaps, but we have plenty of stuff all spelled out here, so now it's time to think about playtesting to see if we have a beautiful shiny or broken bits of glass in our hands.

I'm toying with several ideas for a playtest campaign as well as several ways of actually running it (Play by post somewhere, IRC, or what...). Anyway, throwing out several ideas here and testing the water to see if anyone's interested in play-testing.

Magical Girl Academy

Magical Girl Campaign

Mood: Light and Teenager trouble-oriented. Romance is a must.

One of the most awkward periods of a magical girl's life is the gap between Exaltation and graduation from Primary School. One is now effectively an adult, if a poorly trained one, but you still labor under the restrictions of a child, until you find ways to dodge them...

New Kalari City is one of the major cities of the humid south, home to several Primary schools for the children of the magical girl and mortal elites. Surrounded by swamps, it is a major center of trade, culture, and music. Primrose Academy sits upon a carefully sculpted island at the edge of the city, where the land turns to swamps full of gators and stereotypical swamp folk. (The matching men's academy, Stalwart Oak, sits upon a second island nearby, seperated by a narrow canal intended to prevent too many panty raids.) Each of the PCs is a student there, about to begin their last year, having just Exalted, and facing the difficulties of being caught inbetween childhood and adulthood, ready at heart, but maybe not in mind to pursue one's dreams.

No one had expected any of you to Exalt, as most Magical Girls get started just as they hit puberty, and you're all 15. The school has hastilly moved you all to share a suite in the Magical Girl wing of the school, and you face the envy of those who are your age and failed to exalt, as well as sorting out your place among those who exalted before you and didn't expect any newcomers...

All PCs would be created with standard character creation rules (so I don't have to work out a set of junior MG rules), age 15. You could be from any gang, anywhere on the Kawaii Isle. Creating pre-existent ties between PCs will be part of character creation, so as to ensure you work together, at least when boyfriend rivalries and teen angst don't get in the way.

Fear of a Cat Planet

Catgirl Campaign

Mood: Urban, Parody of Grittiness and Urban Music, Rebellious

Once you were part of the Mighty Ducks, one of the most powerful gangs in the city of Minas LankWaterHawk. Until someone wiped your gang out. Only you and a few friends (the other PCs) survived, granted power by Luna to avenge yourselves. If you can figure out who to kill. Not that this city doesn't have plenty of people worth killing.

Of course, in the meantime, you've got to eat and go undercover. Which is why you've formed a band, of course. It's time to take the gospel of Luna to the streets, yo. The whole world will LISTEN TO YOUR SONG!!!!

The PCs are beginning Catgirls with a shared background of membership in the same gang, now forming a band and seeking revenge. Standard character creation, but you will need a good reason to have a mentor if you want one.

Here Be Dragons

Helping Goddess Campaign

Mood: Politics, Bureaucracy, Exploration, Bug-Hunting.

After many centuries of not noticing, it has come to the attention of the Helping Goddess Agency that many corners of the world remain unexplored and unknown and thus ignored by HGO and thus possibly full of dangerous bugs or other problems. This calls for a crack team of Goddesses to find all the unknowns and map them out, so as to ensure nothing slides through the cracks.

Sadly, it usually takes a few centuries of argument to assemble a crack team for anything short of a Missing Nail Crisis Cascade, and thus your team has been quietly delegated the job by a middle-manager who is worried about all this.

The PCs will be starting Helping Goddesses; some joint creation necessary to ensure you don't all immediately go at odds to each other. Unless everyone wants to be constantly backstabbing, anyway...

From the Ashes

Bishonen/Mixed Campaign

Mood: Peasant Heroes, Romance (maybe), D&D Parodies

You all grew up together in a small rural town, only to find one day it was LEVELLED BY ANCIENT EVIL. Just like you always dreamed of, as BOY WERE YOU SICK OF THAT PLACE. Now, you've all banded together to avenge yourselves on said ancient evil. Or maybe to thank it for setting you free.

This is a 'Bishonen and Others' game; at least one player should be a Bishonen peasant hero type; everyone else could be other Exalts, so long as you 1) can work with Bishonen, 2) can tie yourself to the quiet land now levelled by ancient evil.

Standard character creation for all.

Looks like this will be our game. Link to the specific campaign page here

I'm interested in most any campaign you'd like to run, though the "From the Ashes" game allows for the most diversity, which I always root for. I spend a lot of time on the internet, and am free at least four or five days a week on a regular basis. I'm usually best in late afternoon or evenings, freedom-wise, and would probably be best suited to IRC. You can usually find me there, in the #WoD channel on magicstar, as "d-_-b", if you're interested in having me as a player. Just tell me what you'd like to see and I'll put together a respectfully twinked-out character. ~ WeepingStar

Cool. I'm looking for 4-5 victims, so that's one. :) --JohnBiles

Hmm, may end up a solo game unless I find mo' folk... --JohnBiles

Hello, there! Sorry for the absence, but I was, in lack of better words, "reorganizing my existence". Now that college is finally over and I join the endless mass known as "working force", I actually have more free time in my hands! How weird is that!? Anyway, I could be part of this playtesting. Like WeepingStar before me, I'd agree with a varied campaign, just for the sake of testing as much material as possible. We'd have to agree in a medium and a schedule, --Wings

I've been absent myself, getting ready for the fall. Ideally, I'd like two more people, and I'm thinking IRC would be the best. --JohnBiles

Anyone? Bueller? :) Makes me wish we had a private message system...--JohnBiles

I'm still around, just in case you're wondering. Find me on IRC if you need to talk to me. ~ WeepingStar

If you are still looking for players I must admit I am interested in this game. --Happerry
