19th Resplendent Air
As the sun feebly climbs its way past the horizon to illuminate another cloud filled sky, Lisda opens the barn door. The weary collection of mortals blinks and slowly shuffles into generally upright positions. Savvy and Jade Wisdom greet Lisda and make introductions. They manage to introduce everyone except Phinnae, who remains a mouse, and Scarred, who remains asleep and buried under hay. Soon though, the Solar's snores cannot be passed off as a normal hay function and he is woken and introduced while clumsily attempting to keep a giant golden bow hidden.
Lisda explains that her village has been having troubles with the local Wood Court for the last couple of months. No one in the village knows what has caused the Court's animosity. The Spirits have been scaring game away from hunters, demanding worship, hindering eforts to gather firewood and preventing passage through the forest. The Circle of Misfits agree to help as best they can and thank Lisda again for her hospitality.
Savvy is concerned about Groany's hypothermia and asks Jade Wisdom to have a look at her. Unfortunately, the Jadeborn is a bit distracted by the beautiful farm girl and feels for a pulse within a plank lying next to Groany. Absent-mindedly he declares her dead. This causes Savvy to panic for a few moments until they all realise what has happened and a more accurate "she's alive" diagnosis is made.
As Lisda leaves this mysterious band of strangers, Savvy picks up the Phinnae-mouse and she Scarred and Jade Wisdom discuss options. Before long they agree that the mortals should stay here in the village while they go to meet the Wood Court. Telling as much to the slave girls and sailors, the quartet walk north into the wood.
About mid-morning they find a convenient slearing for Savvy to attempt to use her Heaven-Thunder Leaves to gain the attention of local Terrestrial Gods. Phinnae-mouse, Scarred and Jade Wisdom are treated to an alluring performance of southern-sensuousness for several minutes before a woodland nymph manifests itself at the edge of the clearing.
Jade Wisdom recognises it as a Dryad from a fairly old and large Oak. He tries to explain to the Dryad, but is told quickly that the issues are not their concern. Taking a breath, Jade Wisdom then tries to explain about the Oath they have sworn to aid the villagers but the Dryad swiftly interupts that the court is not concerned with the villagers.
Savvy asks what the Dyad is actually concerned with, but the Dryad dismisses her question as none of their business and says they should leave.
Jade Wisdom offers to help resolve whatever is bothering the woodlands, to thus end the conflict with the villagers. At this the Dryad pauses in consideration of the offer. Savvy takes this opportunity to use her New Friend Aroma, causing a small burping sound and a less intoxicating, more toxic kind of smell lingering in the air.
The Dryad says an arrangement may be possible if they come to the court and see the Wood King. The Exalts and Jade Wisdom agree to this and follow the Dryad through the trees into the forest. Soon after, Jade Wisdom's essence enhanced sight allows him to spot Lisda following at some distance. He inwardly groans, but says nothing so as to not give her away.
An hour later they come to a thick copse of treets. As they draw closer the trees part to let them through into a clearing filled with immaterial woodland gods and elementals, including the Wood King. Jade Wisdom is a little concerned about Lisda as she is nowhere to be seen.
Debate is joined!
The King rumbles forth "Hushah kikiki shou-burrum faramni?" as Lisda is brought into the clearing by a pair of strong Dryads and held firmly for all to see.
There's an awkward pause as the entire court, including the Misfit Circle realises that the people before the King cannot understand Forest-Tongue at all... The King slumps a little in his throne of ivy, a little dejected.
Jade Wisdom smoothly interjects in Riverspeak a denial of knowing of Lisda's presence and reiterates their intention to mediate the dispute so he requests that she be allowed to stay free of harm. The King sniffs in contempt and ignores the Jadeborn's babbling. He raises his voice again, in Riverspeak.
"Remove this mortal from my sight!" he commands. No one moves. Some crickets can be heard chirping in the distance. Members of the court look slightly uncomfortable...
The Jadeborn beckons for Lisda to come and stand with the party. As she runs over, Jade Wisdom pleads for mercy as "She is from the village and wishes an amicable solution to this diagreement." but again the King ignores him, looking around the court in disdain.
"Leave now or be removed by force!" the King commands. The quartet (and Lisda) are taken aback by this new commanding tone and very nearly get up to leave.
Jade Wisdom again pleads with the King to let them stay and help, and is again ignored by the woodland monarch. Then the perceptive Artisan, notices flecks of gold essence coalescing around the fearful but defiant farm girl. The essence flecks become an aura as she steps forward and shouts "Stay your tongue, Forest Lord, and listen!". Jade Wisdom turns to her and bows deeply, saying "Congratulations, Golden Bull, welcome to your power."
The Kings eyes widen and focus directly upon her in surprise. He nods his head slightly in acquiescence.
Lisda continues, "I want you to stop harrassing Riverwood!"
Scarred and Savvy are a bit speechless and stand there in silent respect. Well, silence at least.
The Wood King starts nodding his head furiously, whipping leaves from his crown. Gulping, he remains defiant, saying "Only if you stop logging this Forest."
The Jadeborn notices a look of confusion play across Lisdas face at this statement, and he interjects "Your Highness, you can plainly see this girl knows nothing of the logging you speak of! There is obviously a third party at the root of this dispute. Please tell us all what is happening that we may help?" At this the King looks thoughtful and nods.
"If you stop the logging of my domain, Riverwood will once more be allowed within my borders." he says.
"We will stop the logging, your Highness," says the Jadeborn. "Can you spare us a guide to take us to it?"
Again the King slowly nods. He summons the Dryad forward and commands it to lead the group to the logging site.
By this point Scarred is quite hungry, and a little bored. While looking around he spots some orange berries hanging off a small twig and eats a couple. He quickly feels quite ill, but that feeling is soon replaced by overwhelming hallucinations. A small forest of Stickmen elementals soon surround him laughing and asking him incessantly about what he can see. Scarred barely notices them and goes on a wild (wyld?) trip like never before...
None the less, the Solars, Lunars and Jade Wisdom are led confidently through the thick forest, making quite good time thanks to the Dryad. Lisda is confused about what has happened to her so Jade Wisdom attempts to explain exaltation to her. Then Phinnae expresses confusion as to the differences between Gods and Elementals so Jade Wisdom spends some time educating the barbarian girl. Lisda then enigmatically asks about a golden man with four arms and neck muscles so big they contain their own elemental poles... Jade Wisdom explains a little about the awesome power of Sol Invictus. Meanwhile, Scarred continues having unusual hallucinations and completely misses this information. Shame really.
As the sun rises to above Meru, the travellers get hungry and decide to stop for lunch, if they can find anything to eat. Finding a convenient clearing, there's a loud clang as Jade Wisdom smacks his armoured palm into his armoured face. He groans with frustration upon having remembered the magic rope was on the yacht when it sank! He vows to himself to go back and retrieve it if he can, before they leave the village.
The Lunars, Lisda and Scarred (having recently stopped hallucinating) go foraging. Savvy brings back some pretty mushrooms that she's sure are ok to eat. To prove it she eats one. Her face only goes a little green as the poison works its way through her body. Scarred almost jumps at the chance to ingest something potentially hallucinogenic again, but Jade Wisdom politely refuses Savvy's generous gift.
Scarred wanders into the woods a small distance, drunk, stoned, poisoned... and manages to capture a couple of rabbits for the group. He feels quite pleased by this offering. Soon after his return, Lisda arrives with ample amounts of fruit, vegetables and water for all. Looking upon this bounty, Jade Wisdom sets about making a rabbit stew. It tastes amazingly good. Obviously due to the quality of ingredients provided by the Solars.
After lunch, they set off once more towards the logging camp. As night falls the temperature plummets and snow starts to fall. Scarred charges his caste mark for light so they can continue on; cold, but not game to stop.
20th Resplendent Air
In the wee hours of the morning, they find evidence of logging operations. Savvy suggests resting before encountering the loggers and the weary travellers rapidly agree. Then the Dryad announces that it must return to its tree and gives directions to the logging camp - to the south, can't miss it. As it disappears back into the woods, everyone rests.
To protect herself from the cold, Savvy once again becomes a bear. Lisda is shocked and scared by this! Jade Wisdom does his best to explain Lunars to the farm girl. Then Phinnae becomes a mouse to hide among Savvy's fur for warmth. Scarred lies back against a tree, cold and uncomfortable. Lisda is unconcerned by the conditions, probably thanks to being a Zenith. Jade Wisdom remains tired, upset and a little grumpy, huddling down within his armour, wishing it had some sort of environmental controls.
Morning comes to wake the party. It is still snowing.
Jade Wisdom suggests breakfast, and Scarred goes hunting again. Once more he returns with a couple of rabbits, and once more the Jadeborn cooks them for all to share.
Soon they continue towards the logging camp.
After a few hours they spot smoke in the distance and as they get closer can see many tents set up with axe wielding men wandering about. There is a stream next to the camp, loaded with logs. All the men appear mortal to Jade Wisdom's essence sight. Saws, axes, ropes and oxen lie in and around the camp.
The companions advance. Many men eye them off warily and hushed whispering breaks out.
Savvy steps forward and asks to see the person in charge. One of the loggers points to another man standing over by a large tent. Savvy asks for his name and is told it is Frank, the foreman. She then walks past, and the others follow.
As they walk towards Frank, they tell Lisda that they think she may wish to speak on behalf of her village. Upon reaching Frank, a large and imposing man (for a mortal), Lisda stammers a bit and comes across as a it girly and uncertain. Jade Wisdom attempts to back her up by threatening Frank, but exhaustion makes him a lot less fearsome than he'd hoped. He tries again but Frank remains unimpressed.
Frank tells them all to fuck off in no uncertain terms. None of the Misfits are swayed by his blustering. Savvy gathers her essence for a charm, but she is also a bit weary, it seems, and the charm has little effect. Lisda informs the man of the Wood King and all the Elementals who are spoiling for revenge, but Frank shrugs it off.
Jade Wisdom apologises for their rudeness, they have all walked a long way to find Frank and are weary, and asks why the men are logging here without paying due respect to the Wood King and his Court. Frank shrugs again and says they are a Guild Operation, they are logging for their Factor. He pauses for a moment and Lisda interrupts to tell him to leave. He ignores the pretty farm girl then collapses to the ground unconscious, bleeding profusely from his nose.
Scarred pulls his fist back from the space where Frank's head was just moments ago looking smug and satisfied...
Within seconds the Circle is surrounded by angry lumberjacks.
Jade Wisdom asks to speak to the Second-in-Charge, but it's too late. Several men rush in to assault Scarred.
Scarred parries a short plank with his Gourd as Savvy draws forth her Heaven Thunder Leaves, and, leaving them closed, whacks the man in the leg, nearly breaking it.
Phinnae leaps into the air and assumes her Deadly Beastman form, while Jade Wisdom crouches into a defensive stance to guard Lisda.
The men start to flee crying out "Anathema!", but not before Scarred punches his opponent in the face. There is a sickening crunch, and the man falls dead to the ground.
The loggers are allowed to flee unhindered, although Phinnae takes some pleasure in swooping them to keep them running scared.
Scarred suggests taking Frank back to the Wood King. The others all agree that is a good idea.
Jade Wisdom asks Phinnae to fly high and look for a Guild camp on the river. She does this and spots a large boat on the river some miles away downstream. Shortly thereafter, the Jadeborn finds himself explaining the basics of the Guild. This leads to an explanation about the First-Age wonder of the Trade-Conferring Pattern as Savvy expresses a desire to wipe out the Guild completely. Then the Artisan goes on to explain a little about Wyld Hunts, Slavery (and how many people are sold to Fae, and then repurchased as soulless shells and mindless living automatons as 'perfect slaves'), Drugs, Pirates and Creation. He enjoys this chance to share his knowledge and education, despite the current circumstances. He even sketches maps and diagrams in the snowy, bloody, mud...
Soon they are on their way back to the Woodland Court with Frank strapped to the back of Savvy (as a Simhata).
As night falls they make camp and tie Frank to a tree. He is quite disturbed by the sight of Savvy reforming into Human shape. Savvy then goes a hunting and catches another pair of rabbits. Phinnae has success finding some vegetables, so Jade Wisdom makes stew again. And it is delicious!
After dinner Savvy sprays New Friend Aroma into Frank's face. This has the desired effect upon the hapless mortal and he soon tells her everything he knows about the logging. It has been ongoing for a few months now on behalf of Guild Factor Doodad.
21st Resplendent Air
Around noon the party arrives back in the Wood Court before the King. Jade Wisdom presents Frank, and Savvy tells the King that Frank could be sent back to the Guild with (and as) a message. The King thanks the group for their efforts, but does not elaborate on his plans for Frank.
This done, the Companions take their leave of the Court.
On the way out, Savvy offers Frank a pretty orange hallucinogenic berry as a parting gift as she feels a bit bad about his fate being left there.
Through the afternoon they walk back to Riverwood village. Upon arrival back at the barn it is plainly seen that the sailors and girls are gone! Savvy frantically asks Lisda where they may be, but of course Lisda doesn't know because she has been with Savvy the whole time. Lisda does point out that they have been gone a few days though, so Savvy shouldn't necessarily expect the people to just stay cooped up in a barn the whole time...
Shortly after this the men and women are all found, to Savvy's great relief. They have been working in and around the village to pay for their keep. Phew! Crisis over!
Jade Wisdom asks Phinnae if she is able to transform into any kind of aquatic animal that could aid in finding the magic rope. She says she can, and flies off to retrieve the artifact. Some six hours or so later she has a fish form large enough to carry that rope in its mouth, and soon after that has easily found the rope.
As evening falls, Scarred practises his drunken-fu in the village street (getting some odd looks from the inhabitants); Savvy helps her followers around the village doing chores; and Jade Wisdom talks with Lisda and Gare.
The father and daughter start arguing. She has decided she would like to stay with the Exalts and find her fortune in Nexus. He does not want to lose his last remaining family and be all alone. Jade Wisdom tries to make peace and mediate between them, but Lisda refuses his help and so he bows and bids them goodnight.
Phinnae flies back victorious and returns the magic cord to Jade Wisdom who is very grateful and relieved. He tries to use Artificer's Insight upon it once again, but is unable to pierce its use.
Soon, all are sleeping soundly in the barn again.
22th Resplendent Air
Scarred awakens early and hungover. To make himself feel better he immediately starts drinking again.
Lisda enters the barn and asks the Misfits what their plans are. Unfortunately, Scarred, Savvy and Jade Wisdom are discussing slavery and its relative pros, cons, evils, and benefits. Ofcourse, this means that Savvy gets quite mad. She storms off angrily, shouting for them to never speak to her again! After she has left, Scarred mutters to himself that it must be that time of the month.
Jade Wisdom explains to Lisda about the Guild boat, and their plan to use it to get back to Nexus. She thinks it is a good idea.
Phinnae flies after Savvy and manages to calm her down after a short while. They come back as everyone is ready to leave.
Once more, Phinnae takes to the sky and looks for the Guild boat. She spots it easily as it hasn't moved from the previous day. It is, however, a hive of activity. At about noon she arrives back at the village to inform everyone of this. She also brings back a deer, which Jade Wisdom cooks up for lunch - though with few vegetables or condiments he finds it hard to make it particularly interesting.
After lunch they head out of Riverwood. As they leave, Gare calls out to Lisda that she will always be his Perfect butterfly. (Ooh! Foreshadowing!!!)
Jade Wisdom attempts to reassure the old man that his daughter will be fine. The Jadeborn swears to do his best to ensure no harm comes to her, but the old man is not very reassured by any of this.
While travelling, Phinnae has the idea to become a mouse and hide aboard the boat to keep track of it.

Added links to the first age exalts and linked other NPCs to my pages. - Bencyclopedia
Trying some organisational changes. If anyone has a better idea, I'd love to see it! :) Will leave the last couple of days in game time (or game sessions) up on this page and archive off the others on a rolling schedule (alternatively, one of you lot can do that too if you feel so inclined, just copy how I've done it. Each Archived day will usually be fairly short to read, has it's own comments section and should be easy to build off, but one thing I'm wary of is losing exactly what the party of misfits has learned. If it's archived away who's to say what day they learned the specific bit of info you're looking for to recall... hm... wordy sentences for the win tonight! Maybe each date should have a reminder about that day? So like: 16th Descending Wood - Nexus, quartet met, alley thugs, Taros intro. - nikink
- Perhaps you could just have this page be a timeline with a brief rundown of each day + the calander with the links off to the more detailed descriptions. Possibly just have the most recent game or two on here as well, to act as a memory tickler if needed. - Bencyclopedia
- I'm pretty sure you just said what I said... :) nikink
- Quite possibly, I just did it less wordy :P Bencyclopedia
