My Abyssal Campaign

This campaign is sort of forming into ideas as it goes. I do have some idea as to where it's going but it's still sort of nebulous. For spoilers, seeCorlanDashiva/Spoilers (Garden and any of my other players: Please don't read this...)

Spells I've made up: Can be found at Necromancy and Sorcery. Most of these have been used by the Deathlord to manipulate the players into doing things, without them realising it. All opinions welcomed...

The Episodes so far

Episode 1:

Blinded by the Light and Seeker in Shadows were given the task of monitoring a Dragon Blooded party that had recently arrived in Chairuscuro. They spotted a few DBs and their slaves making for the South and decided to follow, reasoning that the party in Chairuscuro were a distraction. The DBs went straight to the Elemental pole and produced a strange device, which they used to force the Elemental pole to produce a Hearthstone, which they then took. Blinded by the Light and Seeker in Shadows had been harassing the mortal helpers during the journey and killed them all while the DBs were at the Elemental pole, then ambushed the DBs when they came back. They were able to capture 2 and kill the rest, and took the Hearthstone back to their Deathlord, who was well pleased with their work.

Episode 2:

The Deathlord has decided to expand his realm and sends Blinded by the Light and Seeker in Shadows out to find him a Creation Manse nearby to a shadowland on the edge of his realm. After some preliminary scouting they sense a manse located in the palace of a nearby kingdom. The kingdom is ruled over by a Lunar and Blinded by the Light and Seeker in Shadows go to the palace to try and "persuade" the Lunar to leave. Instead of receiving an audience with the Lunar, they are instead brought before his 'advisor', a Sidereal who lives atop a nearby mountain. The Sidereal makes them an offer, let him speak to the Deathlord and make an 'arrangement' and he will advise the Lunar to let them garrison troops in the Kingdom, allowing them to take the manse much easier. They contact their Deathlord and he agrees, a meeting is arranged in the Shadowland for shortly after. An agreement is made during secret negotiations, and the Deathlord and Sidereal summon Blinded by the Light to bind them to the deal. The Lunar is betrayed by his advisor and the Kingdom falls easily to the Deathlord, then Blinded by the Light and Seeker in Shadows are left in the Sidereals command. He tells Seeker in Shadows to steal a small amount of Oricalchum from the Palace cellars as a test, and then sends them both into the Wyld, for reasons unknown...

Interlude :

Set sometime during Ep 2 while they were in the Labyrinth. Blinded by the Light is seperated from Seeker in Darkness while in the Labyrinth and a strange fat looking man leads her to a vaulted chamber that seems to be alive (the passages to and from appear like throats, and the chamber itself could almost be a giant stomach without nasty acids). The fat man has the power to open passages in the walls and floor and refers to himself only as an Opener. The large chamber holds many Openers and one steps forward to speak with Blinded by the Light saying that he speaks for one who is dead yet whose soul still lives. He offers her all the knowledge she could want if she pledges to serve his master in the destruction of everything and she says she will think about it. He says not to take too long, and offers her the service of the Openers if she can meet the price (to be determined on a case by case basis) while she thinks about it. She is then returned to her companions, who have not realised she was gone.

Comments

There are some interesting ideas here. I like the idea of Polar Hearthstones - what do they do? Are they just McGuffins, or can the PCs create and use them? Also, just what are the openers? I like the organic Labyrinth architecture, btw.

I get the impression that ordinary mortals play no role of note in your game - that everyone is either an Exalt or a faceless extra. Is this correct, or are mortals simply getting short shrift due to the abstracted nature of the session summaries? - Quendalon

The Polar Hearthstones will have powers, but you'll have to know how to use them, and thus I can use them as a way to gradually provide more and more power as the game requires. Not sure what the powers will be yet, of course, although they should be themed to the relevant element. The Openers are actually First circle demons, who are decended from the second circle demons on one of the Malfeans. The first circle demons survived the killing of the Malfean and fled to the newly formed underworld. I'll get round to writing them up at some point...

And as to the mortals, I've only run two games so far, but you're right - mortals have been faceless so far. I'll see what I can do to change that, although thinking about it, it is kinda in genre for Abyssals to see them as such... Thanks for the feedback :-) - CorlanDashiva

So far from what we've seen of the Polar Hearthstones they are just McGuffins, but I'm guessing they might get explained more at some point. As for the PC's creating them, it's not easy, because of them being obtained from the poles you need elemental immunity to get to their formation point. That's why we let the DB's go get it, then pinch it off them.

And while 'mortals' haven't played any big part in the game so far, my character has two ghosts that follower her around, and they were actually fairly important in the first game, so it's not totally devoid of anything lower than Exalts as characters. - Garden

Seeker in Darkness has asked me to point out that he has a big Barghest, called Calidus, as his familiar. Calidus is also not an Exalt, and is terribly cool and better at fighting than both the PCs put together. - Garden

You should come up with a name for this campaign so we can put a link on the campaigns page - Garden
