Qurtok : God of Unclaimed Luggage

by FlowsLikeBits

"Why would he want me to do THAT?"
- Bastiel, more confused than anything else
"But these are... so... common."
- Shining Thistle

While technically a resident of Yu-Shan rather than Nexus, Qurtok has a bit of soft spot in his heart for the city, as it is one of the prime contributors to his domain. He is a rather unassuming-looking god; his hair is usually mussed, and he usually wears a hideous mismatch of fashions from all over Creation. His manner is almost always friendly and laid back. This belies the fact that he is one of the most upwardly mobile gods in Heaven. Rising from a minor god of a silly matter, he now reports to Marthesine directly (and is one of the few who can find her easily). Getting the contract for Tshugar from her was one of his best moves, and a reason he still likes Nexus.

He managed to get a Celestial Manse, but doesn't use it much - it mostly functions as a storage space. Despite his look, Qurtok is extremely organized, stopping just short of being a jerk about it. The inside of his Manse is a gigantic monstrosity of gears, levers, wheels and pulleys. Each object has its own independent mounting. One enters and appears on a little platform in front of a complicated control panel. Hitting the right controls on the panel will form a room (or sometimes just a shelf) with the requested stuff. Asking for stuff lost by a little known beggar may produce a small shelf with 3 items, while a request for all stuff lost by Dynasts between the ages of 15 and 30 during a 100 year period may grant a large warehouse.

Qurtok is obsessed with trying to increase his own power and responsiblity, although he's mostly done this "legally", i.e. through political maneuvering in Yu-Shan, rather than trying to get followers directly. Despite his ambitions, he hasn't actually done much with his new power. He still files the appropriate reports, even though he KNOWS what Marthesine does with them. :cough:

While Qurtok's collection is only a small subset of Marthesine's, it's pretty good and he isn't as obsessed with increasing it. People who bargain with him tend to get strange requests that play into his political games somehow. Thus he tends to give quests rather than ask for items; he acquired the house he gave to Kresh'Inik this way.

Rumours

  • Qurtok can also appear as a foreigner; in Nexus, he can be anything from a prim Realm Dynast to a refugee from Gem to a Lintha Pirate. He can't appear as a local, though.
  • A part of Qurtok's success can partially be attributed to his friendship with Chih Fuo, the Goddess of Pragmatic Wisdom.
  • Qurtok is just waiting for Marthesine to put that bag of hers down for too long -- then he's sooo ready to get promoted again....
  • Qurtok was good friends with Vanileth (God of Artifical Flight), but they had a falling out.

Secret

  • Qurtok's greatest triumph was when he managed to get Elsewhere classified as luggage. Due to this, he made out like a bandit during the Usurpation. He now owns more chakrams than all four war gods and the Immaculate Air Dragon paths combined. However, these are mostly mundane.
  • Now Luna owes Qurtok a favor for helping Kresh'Inik; he hasn't worked out what to do with that... yet.

You don't have to be serious. it could be silly and useful at the same time. plus its funnier that way ^_^ - Paladinltd
