This page is intended for discussion of the decoding of the Exalted character set. Note: this is now kind of useless since we have a key to the character sets in the "Players' Guide", but we might as well leave it up.

This has all been done before. Sadly, I can't find the extended document on Realm Script, but Alabrax's site has pretty exhaustive documentation on Lunar Script:

I have a more recent version of the Realm character set than that on Alabrax's site; I'm not sure where it came from, but one should assume that someone has documented the various nuances somewhere, though I recall that DS' conclusion is correct, though I don't remember if there're any guidelines for if a letter-pair is reversed or not, other than the word that should result.

i was asked last friday to do list my realm script translation, so i went about trying to find away for everyone to do it.

you'll need: your exalted core book the dragon blooded book the making of cd (recomended) a piece of paper pen or pencil and a ruler

start off by making a chart that should be 6 coloms and 19 rows. leave the first tile (the spot that is in the first row and first coloumn) blank. fill in the rest of the first row with the five vowels a, e, i, o, u. in the first coloumn, in the tile below the blank one, place a dot. below that tile, fill in the remainding tiles in that column with the following consenants: b, k, ch, d, f, g, h, l, m, n, p, r, s, t, v, x, y.

it should look kinda like this:

and so on till y.

each of the remaining tiles should be numbered, but leave space to draw the actual realm script character in the box. the first five boxes are for vowels only, and should be labled 1 trough 5, the ba, be, bi, bo, bu boxes should be labled 6 through 10, and so on. there should be ninety boxes.

before we start i should point some things out. the realm script is made up of phonyms, vowel consenant pairs, and the five vowels. there is no c, only a k, and there is a ch (and its possible that words with sh would use ch characters). there is no z, but instead an x. not all of this will become explicitly clear with the instructions below, UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MAKING OF CD. for those of you that don't, just know that verification can be found on the cd.

now, pull out your exalted core book. i'm going to break down each word presented, tell you how its constructed phonetically, and then give you the corresponding box/tile number for that symbol. you can then fill that symbol in the box and you'll have that phonim letter. numbers in () mean that its the first time that symbol is used, if you see a number with out parentheses then you don't have to fill it in any more. double parens (()) means that that symbol justifies the line your filling it in, meaning that that sumbol proves that evey thing within that row is part of the "k" or "s" group. triple parens ((())) means that with that symbol, you should have completed the row.

here goes.

turn to the first page of the introduction (the first page with text). down the left side margin is the word "exalted", on the opposite page is the word "introduction", you can also find the word exalted on the spine of the book.

fill those in. now turn to the first page of text in chapter one. you should see "exalted" down the left margin again, and on the opposite page instead of "introduction" you should see "chapter". subsequent chapters will give you some idea of the numbering system.

IF YOU HAVE THE MAKING OF CD there is a section where they flip through the art bible, it shows the first age letters (which are basically myan, they are pictagrams and near impossible to replicate from the cd) and a chart (exactly what you created) with the realm script. this is how i can independantly verify what i just presented. i could make out the following from the cd:

5, 6, 10, 18-20, 23, 26-28, 32, 40, 50, 55, 60, 76, 78, 80, 82, 83-85, 86, 88-90.

thes ones that i don't have or couldn't make out.

38-39, 45, 48, 58, 65, 67

from the book, total:58 from the cd, total:25 total known: 83 missing, total:7

that means that you'll get about 64% of the characters from the two books. you'll get an additional 28% from the cd. thats 92% known, and about 8% unknown.

NOTE*- if you have the lunars book, the whole thing is done in claw speak, except for the spine, which has the lunars writen in realm script. unfortunately, i can't make out the symbol, and have yet to go back trought the cd to match it up.

arg, just noticed some other things, and that we should be doing this on the other thread, oh well.

i'm quite sure that "of" is O-VU, not O-VO. look at how the V is conjigated again. i stared at all of the "of" examples for quite some time.

secondly. there is no "z" its an "x". or they are just inter changeable. i'd still go with "x" because its more versitile. it can be used for both sounds. also, "exalted" is pronounced eks-al-ted, and is written

so i would guess that in both the case of realm script and claw speak, thats an "x".

It's possible that they're applying a system used in the Mayan syllabary, which I've heard called the "Principle of Synharmony".

The principle is this: If two adjacent consonant/vowel glyphs have the same vowel, one of the vowels is not spoken.

So, if you're trying to say for instance "Nancy", you write it: na-na-si, and the second 'a' is elided.

This system is very similar to Katakana, the writing used in Japan to write foreign words. Japanese is based on time, where each "sound" is spoken for the same length of time. Non-Japanese words do not usually do this. Take something like the English word "teeth". It has three sounds a "te" sound a long "ee" sound and a "th" sound. In Katakana, it would be more like te-ee-fu (there is no "th" sound in Japanese). In the writing, the first character would be the te character and the last would be the fu symbol. The long ee sound is more complicated. To illustrate holding the long e sound, a horiontal line is used to mean "hold the vowel sound of the last character for a beat".
