Precious Thing Preservation

Cost: Varies
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Ring: 3
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Glamour

Eventually, a raksha is going to be vexed by some powerful Sword-heavy noble. Spiritual damage is inevitable, but there are ways to work around that, by making it harder to take objects from the defeated raksha. Just a bit of essence, some spare gossamer, and a bit of time is all it takes.

The raksha chooses what items he wishes to augment, up to a number equal to his Ring. That done, he internalizes the objects and begins to wrap them tightly in essence and gossamer, artificially increasing the possession's 'weight'. The raksha's player has to options to give an object a false weight (making it count as more than one object) and to give an object an artificial Artifact rating. Both the weight-adding and fake Artifact dots cost one gossamer per addition, and no more total applications can be placed on one possession than the raksha's Ring. This can not, in any way, raise an object's Artifact rating above 5, not can it make an object 'weight' more than the raksha's Sword.

Also, for each gossamer point spent, a variable amount of essence must be used; this remains committed until the end of the story or if released, ending the charm's effect. For normal possessions, every two gossamer spent must be accompanied by a single mote; for non-Artifact Graces and non-Grace Artifacts, one mote per gossamer; for artifacts made from Graces, two motes per gossamer.

Pennant and Cyst Binding

Pennant Amalgamation

Cost: 10 motes, 1 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Ring: 3
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Gossamer-Forging Art

While having a pennant from a few Freeholds is good to make sure that one stays in one piece in the harshness of Creation, the resourceful raksha finds a way to rig a few gathered pennants together into a makeshift Cyst. While the task requires a fair bit of time, the end result can be very beneficial to the raksha in the long run, so long as it remains whole.

The raksha gathers three pennants together and wraps them tightly into a strip of gossamer. The raksha's player then rolls Intelligence + Craft(Glamour) as a Ring-shaping action. The difficulty of the roll increases by one if any of the pennants belong to Freeholds in the control of nobles who either hate each other or despise the raksha attempting to bind the pennants together. Should the roll succeed, the motes spent must remain committed for a full story, as per normal uses of Gossamer-Forging Art. At story's end, the raksha is left with a curious-looking, yet functional 1-dot Cyst.

Should any of the pennants that comprise the makeshift Cyst be revoked, the Cyst explodes harmlessly, leaving the raksha with the remaining pennants.

Carbuncle Conjunction

Cost: 20 motes, 1+ gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Ring: 4
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Pennant Amalgamation

It is difficult enough to find freehold-owning nobles who would let a raksha hold onto a pennant, let alone an actual Cyst. Nonetheless, the desire for essence outside of feeding can be strong enough to make even the most conservative raskha ponder using a charm such as this.

The raksha takes a considerable amount of gossamer and wraps it around the cysts she wishes to combine, spending a number of gossamer points equal to 1 + the Cyst level she wishes to create. After preparing the Cysts, the raksha invests the required Essence into the binding, and the raksha's player rolls Intelligence + Craft(Glamour) as a Ring-shaping action with a difficulty equal to the desired Cyst level; if any of the Cysts were formed using Pennant Amalgamation, the difficulty increases by 1. Success yields, after the usual story-long incubation time, the desired unusual-looking Cyst, along with the additional Cyst points left over divvied up into pennants.

Under no circumstances can a raksha make a Cyst with a level higher than the combined levels of the Cysts being used in the process, nor can they create a Cyst past a rating of 5. Should any of the Cysts incorporated into the charm be revoked, the makeshift Cyst explodes with a force that actually does a number of levels of Lethal damage equal to twice the level of the revoked Cyst. The remaining Cyst or Cysts do not separate, leaving the raksha with a less powerful source of essence.

Heavenly Material Forging

Artistry of Heaven

Cost: 2 motes, one Quintessence point
Duration: Permanent
Type: Special
Minimum Ring: 3
Minimum Essence: 1
Prerequisites: Ordinary Object Conjuration

This charm, in fact, is two capabilities rolled into one. It first gives the raksha the ability to attune to, sublimate and internally store Quintessence, and also allows them to forge it in a manner almost exactly similar to Ordinary Object Conjuration, complete with the same Intelligence + Craft (Glamour) roll and Resource-value limits. However, the object so made is a phenomenally superior, if still mundane, version of what Ordinary Object Conjuration would create, a testament to the material being used. Unlike permanent glamours, the object will last forever.

The raksha, in order to use this charm, must have at least some Quintessence stored in their Essence pattern. A daily ration of Quintessence in Heaven will usually yield the raksha three 'points' of Quintessence, and they may only store a number of points equal to their Heart + Willpower. In order to internalize Quintessence, the raksha must either touch or swallow down the fluid, and can only process a number of points per minute equal to their Ring. While storing Quintessence, their Ring Grace spiritual representation, be it a receptacle or a maw, glows faintly, and feeding maws seem to drool a similarly glowing fluid.

Raksha specifically work the stored Quintessence within their own spiritual pattern before its completion, which is enough to satisfy the 'private immaterial sanctum' clause for working Quintessence and Ambrosia. However, in order to learn this charm, they must be in the presence of someone forging the prayer-stuff into a complete and finished shape.

Devotion's Blessed Basin

Cost: 5 motes, 5 gossamer, 1 Willpower
Duration: Permanent
Type: Special
Minimum Ring: 3
Minimum Essence: 1
Prerequisites: Artistry of Heaven

Works molded from quintessence and coaxed into being by the touch of the Wyld are unique treasures, but acquiring Quintessence directly from Heaven is, in no way whatsoever, easy or safe. So, being the consummate copycats that they are, raksha learn how to turn the devotion of mortals into their own little font of power and god-material.

The raksha wishing to build a place where devotion and prayer directed towards them can congeal into Quintessence (and later on, even Ambrosia) must seek out a relatively safe location for their collection basin, then achieve success on an Intelligence + Craft (Glamour) Ring-shaping roll. On success, the raksha internalizes the spent essence and gossamer, and one scene later, they disgorge (quite literally) a basin roughly five feet in diameter and a foot deep at its bottom. The actual cosmetic effects of the basin depend on the raksha's personality and whims, but its main effect is simple; to contain and preserve Quintessence and Ambrosia. The basin is surprisingly hard to break (consider it to be as tough as any of the Magical Materials) and can hold up to 21 'points' of Quintessence and ten blocks of Ambrosia at any given time.

If the raksha is within the same freehold where the basin is located, they may readily pull either material from the basin into their own essence pattern (or put it back if they don't need it) at the rate of 5 Quintessence and one block of Ambrosia per turn.

Actual Quintessence and Ambrosia gained is determined by the Raksha's Cult rating:

X: No followers, so no god-matter.
●: 1 Quintessence per story.
●●: 3 Quintessence per story.
●●●: 6 Quintessence per story, and 1 block of Ambrosia every three stories if the Raksha possesses God-Matter Forge Permit. At this point, the raksha may have attracted the attention of Yu-Shan.
●●●●: 10 Quintessence per story, and 1 block of Ambrosia every two stories.
●●●●●: 21 Quintessence and 1 blocks of Ambrosia per story.

Melding of Madness and Majesty

Cost: 5 motes, one Quintessence point
Duration: Instant
Type: Simple
Minimum Ring: 3
Minimum Essence: 1
Prerequisites: Artistry of Heaven, Essence-Forging Art

Mixing together their control of the Essence of the Wyld with their newly-gained ability to work Quintessence, the raksha can improve their possession-making capabilities.

This charm works in a manner almost completely similar to Essence-Forging Art, except that it both provides a one-die bonus to the required Intelligence + Craft (Glamour) roll and that the charm creates either a Fine, Exceptional or Perfect item at the usual difficulty range of one to three. All other rules apply as per Essence-Forging Art.

Framed In Desire, Built With Glory

Cost: 10 motes, one gossamer and Quintessence point per Resources dot
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Ring: 4
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Artistry of Heaven, Gossamer-Forging Art

Twisting together gossamer and Quintessence, dreams and prayers, the raksha forges truly staggering works of art, the likes of which most raksha themselves could not hope to readily emulate.

For all intents and purposes, the rules are the same as for Gossamer-Forging Art. However, the object created gains an improved bonus over things made simply with gossamer.

Weapons so forged are the tools of those who seek to spread the gospel of death, and gain the normal gossamer bonuses along with the two +1s and one +2 granted for perfect weapons. Doubling up is not allowed, as per usual. Armor proves to be inhumanly light, durable and almost invested with the desire to avoid being struck; said armor has no mobility or fatigue penalty, gains two to bashing and lethal soak, and adds an additional success to all dodge attempts. Equipment and tools made in this manner are things so complete they almost seem to work on their own. They apply one automatic successes to rolls involving their use, and increase the pool of said roll by two.

When invoked in Creation and readily put to use, these items put forth a faint pulse that courses through the local Essence. While mortals cannot feel this, Exalts can tell that something is unusual about the item, but nothing more. Spirits can effortlessly feel the bound Quintessence, working in harmony with the hardened gossamer frame that holds it, within the item.

Dream-And-Hope Cache

Cost: 10 motes, one or more gossamer and Quintessence points
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Ring: 5
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Artistry of Heaven, Crafter's Arsenal

Within their own self, the raskha forges a shaping weapon of gossamer and Quintessence, much in the same manner of Crafter's Arsenal. All of the rules that apply to Crafter's Arsenal apply to this charm, except that an equal number of gossamer and Quintessence points must be spent, the required Intelligence + Craft (Glamour) roll gains an extra die, and that the base shaping weapon is of fine quality. The difficulty of the roll is increased by two for create an exceptional weapon, and by four to craft a perfect one.

Woo, this is neat. Um, do Cysts grant powers the way that Hearthstones do? If this is the case, I'd throw in a line about how you might go about describing the new Cyst's power. - willows

They don't grant any power beyond the essence, they're fundementally inferior to
hearthstones. But the fair folk can't benifit from the specal powers of hearthstones
anyway, so they don't care - Dasmen
Yeah, it's good in that it's a source of both cohesion and Essence within Creation, so that they don't have to rely on soul-chewing so often... or at all, if they can somehow acquire a powerful Freehold and hoard its power. Which one can easily see some raksha doing. ^_^ -DarkheartOne
