The Janitor's Broom

Artifact 2 by BrilliantRain

"Qu sighed. 'At least you could let us turn your broom into a secret weapon, Lu-Tze. I've shown you the plans-'
'It is a secret weapon,' said Lu-Tze. 'It's a broom.'"
--Terry Pratchett, Thief of Time

Everyone wants a clean house, but most people would do a fair amount to get out of having to clean the house. Thus was born the noble job of Janitor. As time passed, certain people noticed that the only time that anyone bothered to notice the cleaning staff was when they left something dirty. That started them thinking. And thus was this broom born.

This broom appears to be a totally normal pushbroom, even to magical vision. Only it's attuned user or somone using a perfect vision effect can see what it truely looks like. To those people, the broom is truly beautiful, with Blue and Black Jade inlay with a few Starmetal wire accents, while the broom it's self is made of a particularly fine piece of Hazel wood from the edge of the Wyld.

As long as the attuned user of this artifact is openly carrying or using this artifact, they appear to be "that janitor guy who sweeps the floors" to all mundane sight, no matter what they normally look like or what they are wearing. If the user is actually disguised as a janitor, apply all extra successes on the disguise roll to the difficulty of any magical attempts to discern the user's true nature. 5 motes to attune, one hearthstone setting, no magical material bonuses, and it is as resistant to breakage as a normal artifact. Additionally, the broom gives +1 die to all janitorial skills.

(Warning: the user of this artifact will be treated as though they really were the jantior as long as the artifact is in use. Doing things that a normal janitor would not do will likly cause problems and may get the user beaten.)

Comments

This artifact was based on Deliberate Insignificance Method (AB: Air, pg 72) and inspired by Lu-Tze from the Discworld novel series.

I like it. It sounds like just the thing several Night caste I know would love. ~StarHawk

I'm glad. I designed it for a Ninja Interior Decorator character. --BrilliantRain

Sounds really cool. Just imagine the look on the face of someone who suddenly finds out that the "janitor" is in reality someone armed, dangerous, and probably here to take his revenge... At least the description sounds as if you could reveal your true self simply by dropping the broom. -- MadFreddy

Could we get some combat stats for said broom, though? -- Rooster

Sure. --BrilliantRain

PC stats are better than PC reaper daiklave... even if it is only bashing. nerf the acc and defense a bit maybe?
-- darloth

This just confirms my thinking that the PC stats need re-examining because I got those PC stats by adding +1Dmg, +1Def, & +1Rate to the stats for a basic staff in PC. Thus I have removed the PC stats. --BrilliantRain
