Solar Investigation Charms by Quendalon

Instantaneous Indexing Exercise

 Cost: 3 motes
 Duration: One scene
 Type: Simple
 Minimum Investigation: 2
 Minimum Essence: 1
 Prerequisite Charms: None

This Charm draws forth the patterns in a book’s Essence, placing the knowledge of its contents literally at the character’s fingertips. For the rest of the scene, she need only think whether the book contains a given piece of information to know exactly where to find it. This does not indicate truth or falsehood. Attempts to decipher obscure or coded information gain a number of bonus dice equal to the character’s permanent Essence score. The character may commit Essence to this Charm to prolong its duration indefinitely.

Intuitive Librarian Method

 Cost: 1 mote
 Duration: Instant
 Type: Simple
 Minimum Investigation: 3
 Minimum Essence: 2
 Prerequisite Charms: Instantaneous Indexing Exercise

The character need only observe a library or other collection of written material in order to know exactly where to find a desired passage or piece of information. If multiple texts contain some form of the desired information, she becomes aware of all of them.

Celestial Cross-Referencing Mode

 Cost: 10 motes, 1 Willpower
 Duration: One scene
 Type: Simple
 Minimum Investigation: 5
 Minimum Essence: 3
 Prerequisite Charms: Intuitive Librarian Method

By touching upon the gathered spirits and Essences of a library of texts, the user of this Charm grasps the sense of the entire library with a single judicious glance. For the duration of this Charm, she may discern the results of any inquiry she might make regarding the contents of the library, the answers coming to her as quickly as she can formulate the questions. Knowledge may be gathered in terms of individual passages or as collective measures of the facts and arguments put forward from any selected subset of texts or from the library as a whole. Attempts to decipher obscure or coded works, or to resolve the truth or falsehood of contradictory passages, gain a number of bonus dice equal to the character’s permanent Essence score. The character may commit Essence to this Charm to prolong its duration indefinitely.

Comments

These are all good ideas, but I feel they would more logically fit into the Linguistics tree, which seems to be where reading and writing stuff goes (even though you'd think it would go under Lore, since without Lore you can't read...).\\ _Ikselam

The core book specifically states that library research is covered by Investigation. Hence these Charms, because the idea tickled me.  :) - Quendalon

I suppose that's as good a justification as any. Hm, random thought: you know that stupid Charm in CB:T that lets you grep books for Sorcery? Was that Linguistics or Investigation?\\ _Ikselam

Linguistics. -MidKnight

But it told you whether the accounts were fictional or not, which I think fits better into Linguistics' determination-of-intent style of charm rather than Investigation's find-stuff effects, which these clearly follow.
