Plot Synopsis for Phoenix of the West

This is tale is about two young Solars: Taban, who is running from a past he does not fully remember, and Osol, who has just taken her Second Breath and wishes she had not.

Part 1, by FourWillowsWeeping.

  • Taban, unconscious under a tree, is rescued by Khadka, a Delzahn nomad.
  • He awakens, and discovering that he remembers no name, Khadka's wife thoughtlessly gives him one, and thus adopts him into the family.
  • Some months later, he challenges Khadka to gain adulthood as the clan defines it, but with the chief absent, they cannot perform the test properly.
  • Meanwhile, the mercenary Oteitani is enlisted for an Anathema-hunt.
  • Osol has Exalted in the night.
  • Together Osol and Taban flee the encampment, threatening the goddess Takiyyudin to guard their passing.

Part 2, by Ikselam.

  • Taban and Osol go to the demesne controlled by the god Stone Face
  • Meanwhile, Lyeshe's group has arrived at the Delzahn camp, but found no clues. He decides to set up camp nearby for the day.
  • Osol calls forth the gemlord, but is drunk with power and imprudently threatens him
  • Taban manages to mollify Stone Face, who agrees to aid them in return for Osol owing him a favor
  • Osol is upset that Taban made an agreement with Stone Face in her name
  • One of Stone Face's kri gives Osol a gemlord's eye, and leads them through the underground tunnels to a secure undisclosed location
  • Oteitani meets one of Lyeshe's scouts, named Sanan, and tells the story of how he defeated a Haltan Anathema and was cursed for it
  • He neglects to mention that his "curse" was actually Solar Exaltation
  • Lyeshe has learned that Osol and Taban spoke with Stone Face. He summons the kri, and binds it to lead him to them.

Part 3, by Dim.

  • Taban and Osol arrive at the demesne
  • They cannot leave for a night and a day, lest the guardian spirits get angry
  • Lyeshe, Otentani and the Huntsmen travel beneath the earth, leaving their mounts behind.
  • Taban notes the vestiments of the demesne's statue are removeable
  • The kri asks to be relieved of the oath; the presence of dangerous, self-defensive Solars makes it impossible to lead the men to them without violating the oath.
  • Lyeshe reluctantly agrees.
  • The Hunt arrives and begins to battle Taban
  • Osol moves to aid, but is waylaid by Lyeshe, who uses a First Age artifact to gain control of the young Solar.
  • Lyeshe comments on Osol's great untapped power.
  • Taban, having once been the subject of the collar and it's magics, stands down.
  • Lyeshe, uninformed of the dangers of the plaza's guardians, leads the party out of it
  • The guradian activates and charges, knocking the unarmed Taban into a stone pillar
  • As Taban slips into unconsciousness, he sees Osol being dragged by Lyeshe as they flee into the forest of pillars.

Part 4, by dissolvegirl.

  • The other huntsmen either flee or are killed by the guardian; Taban and Oteitani fight it.
  • Lyeshe informs Osol that the collar will take away her memories.
  • Taban and Oteitani are injured; Taban disables the device.
  • Taban questions Oteitani about being a Solar as he bandages the mercenary's arm; Oteitani reveals his distaste for "Anathema."
  • Oteitani says he plans to tell Lyeshe he killed Taban.
  • Taban notes that the armor on the Guardian is orichalcum; Oteitani takes it and goes to find Lyeshe.
  • Taban falls asleep.
  • Sanan has been hiding, watching the entire scene, and slips off to find Lyeshe and let him know what transpired.

Part 5, by willows.

  • Osol makes the collar sing.
  • We find out Lyeshe is planning to sail off to the Isle with Osol.
  • Lyeshe makes Osol cast Force of Life's Summer to make some snacks.
  • Sanan finds a grove of talking trees, and is lured inside.
  • Taban finds some snacks. He sees Osol's anima in the sky, and starts to run home.
  • Lyeshe calls Osol il-djohaar, which pisses her off.
  • Oteitani meets Lyeshe and Osol; Lyeshe is in bad shape. Ote gets paid and leaves.
  • Sanan comes looking for Ote. She is injured.
  • Taban reaches home. He enlists the Delzahn to help prevent Osol from being shipped off to god-knows-where.
  • He runs off to somewhere.

Part 6, by CrownedSun.

  • Lyeshe's boat is delayed; he is displeased.
  • Taban (reluctantly) gains some allies: men of the Granite Mantis tribe, led by Tegus.
  • Osol still hasn't given up.
  • Sanan finds Oteitani, and suggests that they might be able to lift his "curse."
  • Osol gets sassy with Lyeshe, who is about to smite the funk right out of her when...
  • ...she's contacted by Stone Face, who makes her an offer she can't refuse.
