Second Edition Sidereals Now

Because I don't want to wait to play my Dilbertesque Bureaucracy Ninjas.

Overview

Sidereals not being terminally broken (as Lunars were), 2eSidsNow is a much smaller and less intensive project than 2eLunarsNow. Many Sidereal charms don't even need to be updated (I was delighted to find that Cash and Murder Games actually already uses the 2e Social Combat system for shaking off mental influence over time). The only trees that need a serious rewrite are the Presence/War trees (because they both come from the 1e Presence tree), the Larceny tree (because some other abilities stole some of its charms), and the new Integrity tree (which, aside from one Larceny charm, is entirely new).

Setup

Since there are so few charms that need updated, the charm lists will be broken down by Caste, rather than by Ability. Here is the new ability spread, which is designed with what I think the Official 2e Sidereals will have in mind. The only one known for sure is the Redsid ability spread, from the training charm in the STC.

  • Journeys - Larceny, Ride, Sail, Survival, Thrown
  • Serenity - Craft, Dodge, Linguistics, Performance, Socialize (No changes here)
  • Battles - Archery, Melee, Presence, Resistance, War
  • Secrets - Integrity, Investigation, Lore, Occult, Stealth
  • Endings - Athletics, Awareness, Bureaucracy, Martial Arts, Medicine (No changes here)

Random Observations

In the process of writing these charm patches, it has come to my attention that the Sidereals have a LOT of charms that would be called 'Shaping' in Second Edition. This makes perfect sense to me. The Shaping sidebar in the core book actually references the Maidens and their ability to ignore reality wholesale. Also, since Solars have a number of charms that protect against Shaping effects (and Lunars are out-and-out immune to it!), there is finally a reason that Sidereals are the low end of Celestial Exaltation - the other Celestials can give their powers the proverbial finger.
