Where's the damn Charms?!

Stemming from my desire to answer that question, I have a plan for an Expansion Pack.

Kraken claimed that the two principal avenues were to either give rulings for the use of existing Charms in Volleyball form, or to create new Charms from scratch. NatalieD suggested a mix of both. I agreed, and began considering my options. Here's what I have so far.

Attributes

In EXBV, the immensity of Creation dissappears, and the world shrinks to a sandy rectangle, bisected by a net. In these restricted surroundings, only five traits are still useful.

  • Strength, associated with the Dawn and Dusk Castes, the Maiden of Battles, and the Earth Aspect.
  • Dexterity, associated with the Night and Day Castes, the Maiden of Endings, and the Air Aspect.
  • Appearance, associated with the Eclipse and Moonshadow Castes, the Maiden of Serenity, and the Wood Aspect.
  • Charisma, associated with the Zenith and Midnight Castes, the Maiden of Secrets, and the Fire Aspect.
  • Wits, associated with the Twilight and Daybreak Castes, the Maiden of Journeys, and the Water Aspect.

Chosen of Luna do not break down so easily here. They probably either have two each, sharing a little, or they all favor all Attributes.

Abilities

Just as in Exalted, there are a balance and variety of skills an EXBV player must possess to succeed. There should only be five of these too, but I'm still working on that. :P

Thrown

Thrown is the art of placing the ball exactly where you want it. It is precision, control, and deception. Players can roll Thrown to Serve or Return

Dodge

Dodge is the art of placing yourself exactly where the other guy just put the ball. In the strange world of EXBV, it is used to the inverse of what you would normally expect. Whereas an exalt in combat avoids blows, an exalt in a game seeks them. Players can roll Dodge to Set Up.

Brawl

Brawl is the art of hitting the ball hard enough to kill lesser opponents. It is overwhelming power. Players can roll Brawl to Serve or Return.

Martial Arts

Martial Arts is the art of following a proscribed path to greater understanding and unity, with the side effects of being able to hit the ball hard enough to kill lesser opponents. Also, other funky things. Being such an odd duck, each Martial Art Style has certain maneuvers which the ability can be rolled for.

Volleyball

Volleyball should be self explanatory. The skill gives a familiarity with it's rules, regulations, customs and methods. Volleyball is the Ability Formerly Known as Athletics, renamed for the purposes of the game. It can be used for any maneuver.

Presence

Presence is the art of making and keeping friends, a skill vital to success in the EXBV circuit. It is used only in special circumstances, yet to be specified.

Charms

Here's what I got so far.

Comments

Well, It's just a start, and it's in a direction not everyone will necessarily prefer, which is why it's just a subpage right now. Please do give any feedback you like. - Kicker

Just a comment, and since I unfortunately missed out on a great deal of the Volleyball craze, this may be something that was noted elsewhere, but why no favoreds on Sidereals? I'd suggest Mars = Strength, Venus = Appearance, Mercury = Dexterity, Saturn = Charisma, Jupiter = Wits? - Ashande

Valid point and positive suggestions. Right now, I agree your thoughts on Mars, Mercury and Saturn, but the others I did a little differently. I made Mercury Wits to represent being fleet of thought, and Jupiter Dexterity to link to that whole "I kill you with Kung-fu" thing. These are just the beginnings of my ideas for something greater, so don't necessarily connect me with all the great work that went into the real thing. - Kicker
