Simple editing is one of the major benefits of using a wiki. Users can edit pages without knowing HTML, and still use many formatting features of HTML. Most wikis define a set of formatting rules to convert plain text into HTML. Some wikis (like this one) also allow some HTML "tags", like <b>, <i>, and <pre> within a page, but you should never do this unless there is no alternative.
The following links descrcibe the ExaltedWiki text formatting rules. To try these rules for yourself, please feel free to edit the SandBox page. To see how any page is formatted, just follow the link "Modify text of this page" at the bottom of the page. (Note: if you are looking for the templates for certain "types" of pages, they are at FormatStandards.)
BEFORE YOU MAKE OR EDIT ANY PAGES, PLEASE PLEASE READ BestPractices!

The Help Pages
This wiki contains a number of help pages describing how formatting is done:
- Help:Editing - the main "table of contents" for editing help
- Help:Formatting - basic text formatting explained.
- Help:Tables - how to do tables.
Table of Contents
When you use section headers in your pages, the wiki will automatically display a "table of contents" at the top of the page. Sometimes this is very useful. Sometimes it is not. If you want to suppress it, add the following to the top of your page:
__NOTOC__
Redirects
Unlike the old wiki, this wiki software supports renaming pages. This should be used sparingly, if at all. Often a simple redirect will work better.
Categories
This wiki supports categories; however not much discussion has been on done on how the community should use them. Historically, communities tend to use categories very badly at first, leading to one or more "category reorganizations" over the life of the wiki. Probably best not to go too crazy with them for now.
Templates
This wiki supports templates; however not much discussion has been on done on how the community should use them. Templating is another area that can get nuts quickly. Again, probably best not to go too crazy with them for now.
