:Actually, the kick speed modifier's legit. Try an experiment to prove it, if you like. Stand up in front of your computer, and make ready as though you were about to kick your monitor. Begin to kick, but don't actually move your foot. Look down. See where your kicking foot is? If you were planning for any serious amount of power or reach, I would bet money your kicking foot is <i>behind</i> your hips. That's where kicks start - most of a foot behind fists, and closer to three feet behind the average sword. Yes, you can get a longer range from the kick than you can from your hands, but only once you've actually begun your attack - in other words, once the initiative modifier no longer matters. - [[Hapushet]] | :Actually, the kick speed modifier's legit. Good stuff, you hit Tai on the head pretty accurately. He'd normally not be so abrupt, but I'm assuming that he and Kree have a past history of competition =) I was thinking that maybe the Trial By Fire fight might take place at the Sequestered Tabernac, then after that all fights would take place in a ruined colleseum near Nexus. The Encounter
"I see you're still wasting your life in dusty old monastaries."
Dan Tai doesn't look up as the shadow from the doorway passes over him, but he does speak, "All this time studying abroad and you still haven't learned to be civil. I'm disappointed, Kree."
"Maybe not, but the time was well spent. What I have learned is more than enough to wipe that look of smug satisfaction off your face." Kree steps over the threshold and stands over the other martial artist. Dan Tai rises and begins to tidy up the shrine, cleaning ash from the incense burners and replacing spent candles with fresh ones. He moves over to the doorway and pauses, turning to look at Kree.
"I take it you've come to challenge me again?" She turns to face him and nods, causing the sunlight shining through the door to reflect off of the polished soulgem set into her caste mark. "Now is not the time. There will be a tournament soon. I plan on entering. I also plan on winning. Feel free to enter if you wish me to teach you a real lesson." He turns to leave and speaks over his shoulder as he walks away, "If you intend on paying homage, please remember to clean up when your done."
Kree watches Dan Tai for a moment and then stands before the small icon of Sol Invictus set against the back wall of the shrine. "A tournament, eh? I wasn't planning on including a crowd, but maybe a little bit of a public spectacle will help to reinforce my point." She leaves the shrine with a smirk on her lips and battle fire in her eyes.
BR, feel free to add to or modify this. I was making an educated guess on Dan Tai's character, but I could be wrong.- Ambisinister

I agree about the kick speed, I was planning on rewriting some of the unarmed combat statistics once I reread and memorize every aspect of Power Combat. I want an Armbar, damnit! (one arm clinch, leaves one arm open for attack and defense for both involved) ~ BrigandRansom , who thinks that clinches were oversimplified in power combat
- Actually, the kick speed modifier's legit. Try an experiment to prove it, if you like. Stand up in front of your computer, and make ready as though you were about to kick your monitor. Begin to kick, but don't actually move your foot. Look down. See where your kicking foot is? If you were planning for any serious amount of power or reach, I would bet money your kicking foot is behind your hips. That's where kicks start - most of a foot behind fists, and closer to three feet behind the average sword. Yes, you can get a longer range from the kick than you can from your hands, but only once you've actually begun your attack - in other words, once the initiative modifier no longer matters. - Hapushet
- In Power Combat, "Speed is solely a function of reach", therefore, a kick should have a higher Speed than a punch, because you can reach farther with it. Meanwhile, "Rate is a function of manueverability and quick follow-through". Given those two definitions of what Speed and Rate really mean in Power Combat, and going with your (excellent, I might add) example of kicking describes a weapon with a moderate Speed and low Rate. It's not as though this is the only blatantly-erroneous Speed rating in Power Combat, though. After all, the weapon chart would have us believe that a sabre has more reach than a poleaxe, and that smashfists make a character's arms shorter. Other than a few oddballs like that, though, I generally approve of the PC weapon chart. - David.
A character can't have more than a total of 3 points in specialties per ability, right? Are you using house rules for that, or did you miscalculate? Stanoje
- Take a look at Exemplar of Martial Arts. Normally you would be right, though.-Ambisinister
How's that sound?
Also, should we do this via post or chat? ~ BrigandRansom, with no desire to change any of this fluff =)
