All Gearheads love GURPS, even when they work for White Wolf

"Hey now, stop the GURPS hating, shall we? It's a good system. And what it does well, it does very well. What it doesn't do well, it does OK. I would much rather use GURPS than D20 Modern for gun combat.

This is why I specified a really awful GURPS game - I've been in really awful ones, and I've been in really good ones.

GURPS is a system. Like most systems, it has weaknesses, and it has strengths. If you play to the latter, and account for the former, it can work really well for certain types of games - although overall I prefer GURPS Lite, as it strips away a lot of the cruft and junk that has accumulated.

And I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Gurps4th - it should be interesting to see what they do with it. With some serious sanding, stripping, revarnishing, ripping off a couple of floors of additions and miscellaneous outbuildings that aren't really needed, and a general makeover, the GURPS house could be a pretty swell place again.

But, damn, there's some really fucked up GURPS characters wandering around out there - "I'm a Bloodthirsty Pacifist. I feel really bad about killing my opponents, but I *need* to!"

Do you think that maybe this is going too far? I mean, we don't archive it when GCG talks about his political views, or Eric Brennan talks about his cats (or whatever), or even when one of the developers talks about the campaign he's playing (except when it pertains to some other issue). Even the Church Fathers didn't include all of Paul's epistles in the Bible. I think part of what makes this a valuable resource is the guaranteed relevance of all of the entries. Just a thought. - Raindoll

Hmm.

When I first came to the Wiki, some of my more favorite entries, especially in the WriterQuotes section, were those with the least relevance.

On the other hand, this is a communal effort, and if the communal verdict is that this or any of the quotes I've archived were unnecessary, I certainly won't complain if they are removed. This one is slightly relevant (more so than some I've done recently :P), but if less than usefull, it shoud be deleted. Geoff's talk about Hero is the most entertaining I've ever seen him, but I certainly didn't realize that his politics were informally marked 'Off Limits'.

If that's the judgment, then strike them from the record. That's one of the other things that makes this a valuable resource.

Though could I at least move the Hero-talk to a sub of my User page? :)

I just threw out GCG's political views as an example. I can't claim to speak for everyone else; my comment was just based on my observation of what's been archived in WriterQuotes and what hasn't. As far as deletion goes, I'm loathe to act without a confirmation from at least one other. - Raindoll

An interesting conundrum. After all, I certainly didn't ask for a quorom before adding them. It seems to me that one of the guiding principles of wiki page development always was "...after all, if some complete comes along and ruins everything, you can just change it back." Confirmation seems to normally come after the fact. Unless I'm missing something and undoing a deletion isn't as straightforward. Not that I want to goad you or anything. You certainly are being more thoughtful about it than I was. When I saw absences in the WriterQuotes , I interpreted it as more of a challenge than a suggestion.  ;) - Kicker

I suppose you're right. To require consensus at the time of every addition would be ridiculous; it would defeat the entire purpose of a Wiki. I just saw removing content - especially content posted by someone else - as weightier than adding it. If something exists that you don't like, you can remove it, but you can't conjure up from the void the infinite number of things that /aren't/ on the board. - Raindoll

True. I suppose that for the time being, the answer is for me to relax on these just a tad. - Kicker

Might I suggest an OT section within Writer Quotes? People could post any actual quotes unrelated to Exalted in there. As far as I'm concerned, even an author's politics (in quotes, not as seen by other people) can often aid in understanding why a certain part of the setting went a certain way. Their feelings about other game systems can certainly help understand why some rules work in certain ways. -ArchonShiva

That OT section sounds like a relly good idea. I think I will set it up. -HeWhoSpeaksOfDarkness
