The Barred Feretory

The barred feretory watches. He is the guardian and the prison, the lock and the key. The Yozi could only be bound by the oaths that they swore on their names and natures; so are the neverborn held in their dreams by their own being. The Barred Feretory is one of those aspects of imprisonment. He walks the corridors of the deepest labyrinth as a gaol warden dressed in fire-blackened and blade-scored leathers, dragging from limp arms a dull, notched sword and a single, thin chain. The blade's clanging can be heard from miles away, as it is absorbed into the walls of that endless maze and released as if a cold stone heartbeat of oblivion. His arm is limp and he cannot raise the blade, its sole purpose to intone that arrhythmic lullaby for a dead god. To be touched by his chain is to pass into an endless, dwindling sleep.

That is one aspect of the Feretory, but it is simply his shadow and echo. The true being of the hekatonkhire is the stepped ziggurat of obsidian and cold-forged oblivion that covers the morkin corpse of the Hallower of Unsung Hymns, the being that was once the primordial Lykkenan. When the solars killed him, his fetich collapsed into the void as the tower that was the emblem of his infinite dreaming defeat, and became the Feretory. He stands rooted astride oblivion, and he sings the whispers of his neverborn patron in notes pure and terrible, which are swallowed by the void before they can ever be heard; this is merciful, as they are dread words that corrupt man and nature in their sight. He is indestructible and impenetrable, but was sorely hurt long ago when his dead master's whispers were stolen to forge necromancy - the lessening of his nature, that of the prison for the live-buried dead god and its words, weakened him considerably, allowing the Neverborn within him to awaken.

As a hekatonkhire equivalent of a fetich soul, the Feretory is extremely powerful and equally difficult to summon. Anyone in the presence of his prison form is subject to a perfect shaping attack; they gain one level of the whispers background every turn until they reach five, and every turn after that roll their essence, gaining one negative mutation point per success; these mutations will usually have to do with decay or immobility. This form is eternal and indestructible, unable to be damaged by anything that could not harm a primordial itself.

The form of the jailer is lesser but still exceedingly dangerous in and of itself. A touch from his chain,TheHoverpope/IndulgentSlumber, a powerful part of his panoply, causes targets to test against the dangerous third circle diseaseTheHoverpope/Dentesa, the Soul Eludes the Sleeper. If summoned, the jailer form is the one who will appear; in domination tests to summon the Feretory, his pool cannot be lowered below his willpower+essence of 18.
