Molikai/EssenceFly

Hmm. A crazy idea has come t ome: I'm putting it here so that I remember, and to invite comment. If I tdevelops, I may move it to creatures. ;) So. I was reading This.

And I had this.. Amusing concept about an essence-aware fly that, say: When It's in you, 'commits' a point of essence. As it grows, it commits more and more... so that, say, just before it's grown It's comitted 3 motes, and has a pretty glow around it. then, of course, it hatches, flies away. Then.. well. Maybe it carries one of the spirituial diseases? Or.. hee. Can use your essence pool to protect itself? Might make a good demon.. and, of course: Just a basic essence-comitter.. it just acts like a weird bot-fly for mortals, makes them feel listless if they have a lot.. but.. well. Let's say you're infected with 7 of them. When they're about to hatch, that's 21 motes of essence you can't use. Ouch? :) Could be a nice beastie for the east. Thoughts? - Molikai

I like it Molikai. I think make it some kind of wyld creature that has a couple of defensive spirit charms powered by your own essence pool. For mechanics I would say that while travelling in the jungles of the east and south east you must roll Stamina + Resistance for some kind of disease against a certain difficulty (I have a chart on paper for what the difficulty is versus how deep in the jungle the PCs are) if they fail I roll on a list of possible ailments then they try to resist the disease or parasite on an individual basis. The first check is just to see if they were in contact with it. I would say roll a number of dice equal to difficulty listed earlier times 2. The PC then rolls his Stamina+Resistance and the difference is how many parasites he now has. And keep in mind as they continue travelling they may pick up more. Hehehe. I am so using this. ~ Insanewizard

Actually.. what I have in mind right now...

'As you walk through the steamy jungle, the cacophony of the wildlife around you, insects abounnd around the elegant, brightly coloured flowers. THey sem to shimmer and dance as you approach: As you brush the leaves, glowing insects rise up: a swarm of colourful flies, dancing and swirling around you. They all seem to hover in front of you for a moment, then seem to do a spin in the air, and dart off: as they do so, you hear a pattering, asif tiny bits of grit were bouncing off your armour.' Then I would have each player roll 1D10. That's how many eggs have landed on their flesh, and begun to burrow in. Then, we'll have a stamina+resistance test! each success reduces the number infesting you by 1. by the end of the day.. they have a number of motes comitted equal to the number of eggs they are infested with. After 2 more days, each bug commits 2 motes of essence, and a soft glow is seen around the sight, which throbs slightly. The light is in the colour of your own anima banner. After another 2 days, each maggot commits 3 motes of essence, and glows at an equivelant intensity equal to spending 2-3 peripheral motes on your anima banner. At some point in the night, they hatch, bursting forth from your flesh, and flying away. THis will cause your anima banner to go to the 15 mote level. Heh. If you try and remove them.. hmm. I think that, during the lifecycle, you are inflicted with Drunken Moth Sickness - Purpose: protect the maggots. This only takes effect if the maggots are disturbed. So, if you disturb them, You must either: Use a simple charm, Use a Combo, or spend at least half of your non-reflexive actions protecting the maggots in your flesh. THere's also a 1 in 10 chance that the maggots will be carriers of White Sun Sickness. Hee! - Molikai
