Maylin

Character Background

"The problem with being told that you are beautiful all your life, is that eventually it becomes the only thing you see of yourself. You come to rely on others to tell you that there is more to you than your doe eyes and your rare golden hair. In your flurry to prove that you are more than your looks you become blind to the world around you and refuse to face certain facts. Your lover murdered hundreds and would do it again without a second thought, you have made yourself one of the richest women in the world, and the true calls of help fall on your deaf ears. You can't hear yourself screaming to stop, to go back to the life you knew, you can't hear the heavy footsteps of your own hubris getting closer. You don't see the approaching chaos for what it is, you tongue kiss it, embrace it, because it accepts you for what you are. You don't realize that in trying to show that you are beautiful inside and out, that you're only showing everyone the best spots to hit you." ~ Excerpt of an unsent letter to Ruby from Maylin.

Maylin has left her barbarian world behind for one of paranoia and shades of grey. She wears braclets to hide the tattoos of her position of leadership in her tribe. The irony is that the tooled design in them is the exact same as the tattoos themselves. After taking over Lord Leothis's business and joining the Guild to become a merchant princess, coupled with the love of Alabaster Chimes and their eagerly awaited (debatable) children, and finding a best friend in Ruby, Maylin seems to have everything of her life back in order from the chaos that resulted after her Exaltation.

In fact Maylin will normally present herself as completly in control, a strong change from the glutton for self-punishment that the circle has seen. Only Sayjin, Ruby, and, perhaps, Alaethis know how afraid all her new powers have made her. Sayjin chides her for her fear, after all these were gifts meant to be used, Ruby is empathatic but doesn't really understand, and Alaethis's thoughts are unknown. Maylin is more than a little aware of how her circle sees her, still the child that ran away to the city, and has for the most part given up on trying to prove them wrong. At least if they expect the worst from her, she can go through her own plans to bankrupt the Realm with very little resistance from her circle.

Like her First Age incarnation, Maylin finds fighting pointless, but unlike Ashraielle, Maylin has her finger on the pulse of the economy rather than the diplomats. Maylin looks forward to gleefully strangling the Blessed Isle in its own debt and civil war while investing in patons to recreate the better inventions of the First Age to make the continent more than able to deal with the Fae jihad and the Wyld Hunt. She wants to bring to the forgotten towns and villages the same comforts she saw and enjoyed in Lookshy, leave a positive mark for the Anathema, before retiring into relative obscurity...with or without someone.

She has refused to consider how she will handle the problem of the Abyssals and their desire to destroy Creation. Is it denial of their power, ignorance, or simply rationalization that Maylin has not bothered to explain to anyone?
