Baronenis

Song of Seven Willows, beautiful blossom on the vine of the ages, writes:

Baronenis was a rudimentary form of necromantic craft most popular directly before the Usurpation, when the pride and egotism of the Solars was at its highest. Though all knowledge and instruction in the "art" was burned or otherwise destroyed during the Usurpation, scholars have pieced the following knowledge together from passing mentions in historical documents.

Baronenis involved taking the freshly-flayed skin of an animal (or person), using a Jindar Needle and Llyas-thread to sew it into the form of clothing, and decorating it with various powerful runes. Clothing made in this fashion was not only immune to the elements, but the Essence of the creature whose skin was used became part of the wearer, and thus the wearer's power increased-- albeit temporarily.

The fashion was to use Fair Folk skins, for their Essence-potential lasted longer; however, the treatments that Fair Skin had to undergo to keep it from dissipating made the material stiff and inhibited mobility-- although the shimmering, glamourous skins were quite lovely. Because of this problem, some Solars took to using human skin, although the practice was deeply frowned upon.
