Hidden Manse(2)
  Refridgerator of the Unconquered Sun
Heirloom(1)
  Sword-chucks, yo! Without the chucks.
Past Lives(1)
Not much more than brief flashbacks, at times, to the horrors

Flaws:
Permanent Caste Mark(-2)
He's going to get his circlemates killed.
Superstition(-2)
  By accident.
Known Anathema(-2)
The idiot left an immaculate alive. Killed PAINFULLY.
Enemy(-1)
This guy probably won't DO it though. Which is why I'm not sure
why you gave this to me, Zack. I think he's going to contribute
less a sense of 'dangerous menace' and more a sense of 'comic
  relief'.
Equipment:
Clothes, notably a headband
A rugged, sleeveless cloth shirt bought in Gem matching an outfit of his
home village on the borders of Varang territory.
Exceptional Hook Swords: +1 spd, +0 acc, +3L dam, +4 def
Storm and Drought are twin hooked swords forged of steel, a gift to his
grandmother by a former fellow villager of her acquaintance, Obsidian
Majestic. Their hilts are wrapped in sweat-stained leather, their blades
polished with the full efforts of genuine pride.
Jade Hearthstone Amulet(Res ***) set with Windhands Gemstone
(Attuned at normal cost, no jade bonus, no wits+occult roll)
Bought on the Gem market, he met the seller through Obsidian Majestic
Various wards and charms worn, usually concealed, about his body.
Minor wards(Res *) versus fair folk, undead, demons (-1 dicepool)
   Cat's Claw Talisman(Res **), +2 base init
Handfuls of mostly ineffective things he keeps 'just in case'
Roughly half the wards are homebrew, half bought on the Gem market.

Description

Diamond of Summer is tall and lean, muscular but not overly so, with a somewhat
lighter shade of skin than normal for the milky-dark people of the Southeast,
from which he hails. An elegant but sturdy cloth shirt in varying shades of
grey accompany his clean black headband, a pair of blue, loose silk pants tied
off with a sash, and a rugged pair of boots. Fastened to his sash are a pair of
well-kept steel hooked swords, no sheath to hide their polish. His face wears a
handsome expression mixing happy confidence and boyish good looks, not uncommon
to the generally attractive people of Varang.
(In other words, he looks like Prince from Sands of Times, missing the overly
angular face, athletics charms, and time travelling device. His skin tone is of
a different shade, too, resembling someone with African ancestry rather than
middle-Eastern. No, he will not tear sleeves off his shirt. He will be happy
to take it off, though, if a properly attractive woman asks.)

Notes

His Res 3 is temporarily at Res 2 due to PURCHASES beyond his means.

Appearances

Musings

Mostly just notes for my own sake on the nature of his character. It's easy to let the strengths and weaknesses of a personality slip your mind, especially in the middle of a hero epic.

He is both ultimately relaxed and unshakably strict. He comes from a very 'anything goes' culture, when it comes to things like promiscuity or proper behavior, so his moral code is really very brief. What he believes in, though, he believes in fully. Whatever he holds holy is clad in iron and jade, unshakable. Everything else is just details, and he refuses to sweat the details. Why his low conviction? He ultimately thinks that execution of an ideal, no matter how holy the ideal, is just an execution. It can be dropped if it's unworthy. Of course, then Diamond will just start all over again and plan a new execution.

He believes self-sacrifice is strength. When one in the village guards the one, and all others follow his example, everyone in the village is guarded by one. When one in the village guards all others, and all others follow his example, everyone in the village is guarded by the whole village. This is the primal source of his valor, and a major influence in his compassion.

He's always been loved. Maybe it's something about him, maybe it's something about how he grew up, and maybe he's just that good looking, but when in company, he's always found the company affectionate. This is both a strength and a weakness. On one hand, he knows and cherishes love, and this is a major source of his compassion. On the other hand, he tends to take people for granted. It's just an assumed thing that they'll be agreeable, to him, and rarely has he been proven wrong. This colors his good naturedness with a bit of naivety.

His upbringing included many strange traditions. The same importance he holds for abstract truths he also holds for 'lesser' things. Rites, wards, and astrology are sacred to him in a strange way. If the wind turns south, he jumps, just as if a person asks for alms, he gives. This is a youthful, mostly blind attachment, so it will be hard for anything but time to convince him to sway on this matter. And time will have to try very hard.

For all his natural social prowess, he doesn't really know how to lead or convince people. His life has been decidedly small pond, and in that setting he's just slided by on talent to influence people to do what he wants. Rarely has he ever lied. It'll be tough for him to take up the mantle of a leader, even as he knows the Sun demands the role of him, and politics will be a foreign experience entirely.

He's inconsiderate. Not unloving, mind, just not thoughtful either. If someone asks, he gives, but if occasion doesn't present itself, he'll go off and do whatever sounds good at the time without too much thought given as to how it'll impact those around him. He doesn't think much about the 'little things' he holds of no importance, even if others don't quite agree on how important they are. This is his low temperance--his moral detachment from worldly things, and thus, his willingness to do whatever feels right.

Why does he go to the Lap? He has a mission greater than his imagination can handle right now, and little to lose to someone who knows his secret. If the offer is genuine, he has much to gain, and if it's a trap, he can at least meet his enemies head on. One thing is for sure: he needs all the help, information, contacts, artifacts, and friends he can possibly get. On a more instinctual level, the world has been a VERY lonely place since his flight from home, and the prospect of meeting others in his situation is like an oasis in the desert. Sometimes, you don't ask why, you just drink.

What is important to him? Two things are of primary influence. One, the rites and beliefs of his people and upbringing are the most profound and base influence on him. He is a Paragon because of these virtues, not anything the Sun has done. The Sun is a nearly equal influence, now, as it is a much more tangible ideal that quite literally speaks to him. Diamond believes he is to usher in an age of understanding and peace, unity and strength, and that he shall begin by marshalling the people of the South against the enemies of Creation. He remembers the betrayal of the dragon-blooded, as he remembers how much his previous incarnation deserved it. Then there are the fey, and the legendary shadowlands. Who are the true enemies of Creation? He is not sure, but better to have strength mounted before they make themselves known, than to hurry its gathering afterwards.

How does he react to any given situation?

  • If it is vile or sacred by the standards of his upbringing, he reacts fittingly
  • If it aids or hinders his mission to unite the South, he reacts fittingly
  • If it seems like a good or fun idea, he chases it
  • If he realizes it might cause harm to someone, he'll probably stop
  • Left with no other obvious answer, he might actually think on it.

NOTABLE EXCEPTION! When given months at a time to think about something, such as when he wandered the desert, he often does get some thinking done. That's the reasoning behind him questioning Soran in session 1, and having a fairly developed philosophy at the gamestart.

Prophecy from a fellow player!

Diamond in Summer will chase after someone to make him complete, and probably get
hurt because of it. It is one you persue with a great intensity, but in the end
you might not have the right weapon for the task... if you survive, you may yet
discover it.
