Gossamer and Ice

An IRC-based Fair Folk game

Gossamer and Ice is a Fair Folk game set in the North, focused on the fantastic personal stories of a Ring of Raksha that seek to found a new Household in the unforgiving lands that they have chosen as their adopted land and the legends that they weave into the Wyld. This page will focus overwhelmingly on setting information for the game, but I'll also try to devote a little time to character information and session summaries once the game gets underway.

This game (and this page) are maintained by CrownedSun, and the game itself is run through WoDIRC.

The Game

The Setting

  • Freeholds and Households - the most important Freeholds and Households of the Region
    • GossamerAndIce/Jotunheim: The oldest Freehold in Asgard, founded by Sunthir Flameblade, who built his freehold on the site of an ancient Lunar Manse. The Court was handcrafted to rule over all of Asgard, but now finds themselves opposing the haughty warriors of the Vanir if they wish to have any claim to their birthright.
    • GossamerAndIce/Vanaheim: Ruled over by Frejja, Froi, and their father Jord, Vanaheim is the Ice and Crystal City of the Deadly yet Beautiful Vanir. War-like and brutal, the Vanir seek dominance over the lands of Asgard and victory over their old enemies the Giants.
    • GossamerAndIce/TurretsOfTheIceBlossom: The Turrets of the Ice Blossom, ruled by their queen and painted brightly with the dreams of children, is often held as a center of the culture and vanity of the North, and stands it's Nobles stand as a counterbalance to the warlike Vanir.
    • GossamerAndIce/SummerGardens: The Summer Gardens are a legend throughout the North, a realm of warmth and plenty in the midst of the great white North. Seekers loose themselves in the utter reaches of Creation searching for this paradise, and only a few even suspect it's true nature...
  • the Middlemarches - important mythic threads, central traits and inhabitants of interest in the Middlemarches of the North.
    • GossamerAndIce/Asgard: A powerful Driftland in the North, once a game reserve for the Solars, which is now home to two powerful Raksha Courts. The Giants of Jotunheim and the Vanir of Vanaheim fued with each other ceaselessly, when they're not raiding nearby driftlands. Home to the shining city-fortress of Vanaheim and the Mountaintop home of the Giants (both described above).
    • GossamerAndIce/ValleyOfIce: the Valley of Ice, near to the bordermarches, is a imposing range of canyons and trenches composed entirely of multicolored ice. Strange things are said to lurk in the deepest reaches of the Valley, and a small freehold is said to dwell somewhere within.
    • GossamerAndIce/TheWyldDragon: Rokat, the Dragon of the Wyld, is a being few claim to understand...seeming part god, part Raksha. He stays separate from the various Freeholds of the North, dwelling deep in the Wyld, closer to the Deep Wyld than the Middle Marches.
  • the Bordermarches - important mythic threads, central traits and inhabitants of interest in the Bordermarches of the North.
    • GossamerAndIce/LostCity: Buried in the Ice, the lost city of Arun was consumed by the Wyld long ago, and remains one of the greatest Wyld-claimed ruins in the North. The Raksha find the city captivating, but those that linger overlong are seldom seen again.
    • GossamerAndIce/GreatGlacier: Only partly in the bordermarches, the Glacier is home to cannibal wyldling tribes, exiled Fae, ravagers, and the rogue god White Mountain who is known to conspire with Fae to destroy the lands of the Lanji.
  • the North - locations of interest and settings related to the North, that will be important to the game.
    • CrownedSun/Lanji]]: the Nation of the Lanji, a barbarian nation near to the region, protected by potent packs of Lunars.
    • GossamerAndIce/DragonsReach: A bare expanse of frozen tundra and frost, inhabited by the fierce Dragon Tribes.
