Game Outline
This is a simple page that outlines the essential goals and plans for my game. In the interest of not planning TOO far ahead, I'm only going to outline one Chapter at a time. Having an outline published helps me to focus on the game, communicate better with the player, and applys a little peer pressure to making sure that I keep on task! Just as a disclaimer, however, I would note that my plans often shift and change in play and I make no promises that this outline will remain intact (even though it's very vague).
Finally, this is a player-centered game and their actions will have large effects on the game itself.
Chapter 1
- Chapter Title: Foundations
- Chapter Goal: The goal of Foundations will be to establish the setting of the Northern Wyld and the other characters in this little drama, while working the characters stories into the stories of the other Raksha in the region.
- Central Tasks
- Establish a Freehold!: The characters will have to scout out and claim a demense, paving the way for them to establish a Freehold. In general, my goal will be to provide multiple different locations and let the players choose. The Deeper in the Wyld the character's freehold ends up, the more successful they can said to have been at this task.
- Found a Household!: The Ring will probably want to attract additional Raksha to their freehold, especially if they get a freehold in a particularly important location, as this will give them greater prestige and power. However, they have to balance this with the desire to maintain power. Main challenges will be "pecking order" style Shaping duels, and keeping out the riff-raff.
- Cement Relationships!: The Nobles of Vanaheim, the Turrets, and the Garden are all potent forces in the North, and the characters will ultimately have to establish some form of relationship with these powerful Nobles and fight off any potential threats. There are also other relationships that the characters will probably have to deal with: Do they want slaves from the Guild? Pesky Lunar heroes making sure the characters stay out of their lands? Exalted or Mortal Heroes seeking vengeance for some wrong done by a Noble of their Court?
- Main Threats
- Instability: Until the characters cement their power and help establish a basic pecking order, they will have to deal with various threats to their power and attempts to take that power from them. Betrayal is a very real danger, as are grabs for power from unknown forces. If they fail in these tasks, the characters might find themselves slaves or exiles in their own kingdom!
- Ignorance: The character's won't know everything there is to know about their enviroment or the situations they enter into, and thus will be dealing in many occasions with threats they are largely ignorant of. This is dangerous, especially when dealing with Raksha, simply because the characters cannot tell who is a potential friend and who is a dire enemy with a friendly face, or even really gauge the power of others reliably. Even the forces of Creation offer some danger as it can be hard to tell a mortal from an Exalt.
This chapter will end when the character's meet and overcome a major threat to their rule, thus proving themselves as capable lords of the Raksha. Alternatively, if they fail decisively and loose power, that will also begin the next chapter.
