FrivYeti/DragonsSessionThirteen
Back to Dragons of Earth And Sky
You have just entered room "chat33281997752825180119."
willcoon has entered the room.
willcoon: Hi
FrivYeti: G'even.
FrivYeti: How goes?
willcoon: Pretty goood.... you?
FrivYeti: Not too badly.
FrivYeti: Overheated.
DonovanTz has entered the room.
FrivYeti: I despise the heat.
DonovanTz: Evenin gents.
willcoon: ugh, damn the sun
DonovanTz: I agree with your sentiment about the heat
FrivYeti: Sun's okay. It's that darned carbon dioxide layer.
willcoon: Destroy the tyrant orb!
FrivYeti: (In fact, it's usually hottest in Toronto when we have cloud layers, oddly.)
willcoon: hmm
FrivYeti: I think we just need more wind.
DonovanTz: Must have something to do with heat reflection
FrivYeti: Wind solves everything.
FrivYeti: Yeah, presumably.
FrivYeti: Or smog.
willcoon: mhm that helps i suppose
Wakoid2 has entered the room.
FrivYeti: Allo.
Wakoid2: eyo
DonovanTz: Anyone do any extensive play with the mass combat rules?
FrivYeti: Nope.
FrivYeti: They scare me.
Wakoid2: nope
FrivYeti: I ran a playtest at one point.
FrivYeti: It worked okay until Charms got into the mix.
FrivYeti: At which point the mechanics sort of hold, but the concepts fall apart with staggering speed.
DonovanTz: Just had my inaugural run with the stuff the other day...it's amazing how reading the rules and making the units has absolutely no bearing on your understanding of the system
FrivYeti: *nods*
FrivYeti: I have to work with it more.
DonovanTz: yet another thing i'm going to have to patch
DonovanTz: I think i'll finish my artifact creation/maintenance rules first though
DonovanTz: and likely my medicine rules as well
FrivYeti: I don't mind the artifact rules as of S&S.
Moonsword134 has entered the room.
Moonsword134: ...am I seeing things?
Moonsword134: I think I see everyone here... which is impossible...
FrivYeti: We actually have the full compliment. :D
DonovanTz: Oadenel's Codex is fantastic, my favorite artifact supplmenet yet. However, it would appear that they folks that wrote the codex didn't talk much with the folks who wrote wonders of the lost age
Wakoid2: yes. yes you are. therefor, I shall leave so that you are not halucinating any more
Moonsword134: *shoots Dakura in the knee* No! No leaving!
Wakoid2: -begins limping off-
willcoon: O-o
FrivYeti: Aside from the durability issue, I didn't notice anything big. What were you thinking of?
DonovanTz: if you look at the repair table at the beginning of wonders(and its host of modifiers) and then compare them to the corresponding table in the codex...things don't mesh
Moonsword134 has left the room.
Moonsword134 has entered the room.
FrivYeti: Mm, didn't notice that.
Moonsword134: ...did anyone see me disappear for a second?
FrivYeti: Indeed.
Moonsword134: <.<
Moonsword134: AIM must die.
FrivYeti: I figured it was just wonkiness.
FrivYeti: I am stunningly blasé about this stuff these days.
DonovanTz: the levels of workshop, for instance, don't correlate, and all of the modifiers in wonders are in terms of difficulty modification, whereas in the Codex they're die adders/removers, and success adders
FrivYeti: They aren't, actually. The table just sucks.
FrivYeti: In the actual information, the penalties are listed as external.
DonovanTz: ah, ineresting
Moonsword134: ...White Wolf does actually have editors and playtesters, right?
FrivYeti: Presumably.
Moonsword134: Or is that what they call fans these days?
DonovanTz: another for instance, to make a level 5 artifact in Wonders you need abilities at 7, to do it in the Codex, it's a 6/4/6 mix
Moonsword134: ...right. Which makes a whole ton of sense, that.
FrivYeti: *smacks forehead*
Wakoid2: -heads off briefly to try and find something cool to drink... damn hot weather...-
DonovanTz: also, wonders lumps all assistants in to "skilled assistant" -1 diff, and "repair team" -2 diff, as opposed to the whole range of run you get in the codex
FrivYeti: *smacks forehead again* That I didn't notice in Wonders.
FrivYeti: Good times.
DonovanTz: it's kind of a mess, so i'm just going to codify the whole damn thing
Moonsword134: Yay.
Moonsword134: I vote we eject Conrad into the sun and put FrivYeti in charge of Exalted line development.
DonovanTz: is conrad the current guy in charge of that?
Moonsword134: I have no idea.
Moonsword134: But he's close.
DonovanTz: cause he's a tool, so I hope not.
Moonsword134: So he'll be a nice symbolic sacrifice to the Unconquered Sun.
willcoon: But the sun will be relatively unharmed.
FrivYeti: We already took killing the sun off the table.
Moonsword134: Yes... we're not trying to harm the sun.
FrivYeti: For the time being.
Moonsword134: Just Conrad.
willcoon: *shakes fist at sky*
FrivYeti: So, shall we get this lumbering behemoth rolling?
FrivYeti: Who remembers where we left off?
Moonsword134: ...maybe I should be in charge, since I actually, you know, live near their office, and then hire Friv and the Hoverpope as telecommuters...
Moonsword134: ...I hope you do.
DonovanTz: we had mysterious shennanigans involving us visitng a different group as reps whilst the indomitable lynx play politician in mela's grace
FrivYeti: ((Well, obviously I do. But it's been a bit, I figured people might want a short recap.))
DonovanTz: I think
Moonsword134: Well, yes.
FrivYeti: ((So, yeah. You guys had just been appointed the diplomatic entourage to approach the Soverign Nation of Urichos.))
FrivYeti: ((While Lynx stayed to meet with the delegation from Mela's Bounty.))
willcoon has left the room.
Moonsword134: ((...*palms forehead*))
FrivYeti: Bwah!
FrivYeti: If you don't mind, I'm just going to start singing the song "Epithets" about now.
Moonsword134: No, no, go ahead.
FrivYeti: Op, he's back. Maybe?
willcoon has entered the room.
FrivYeti: Yo.
willcoon: hgi sorry
willcoon: <.<
Wakoid2: -returns from beverage retreival-
willcoon: computer's testy
FrivYeti: Fair enough.
FrivYeti: ((Alright, as I was saying. We open the scene with the group having just been dismissed by Lynx, who seems to expect them to depart fairly shortly.))
willcoon: Skein is...
willcoon: frustrated.
DonovanTz: ((Did this other group contact Lynx or did Lynx find out about them and decide to send us?))
Moonsword134: Valeria is ready to follow orders, although she's a smidgen concerned at the idea of Darting Lynx conducting diplomacy without someone like Skein there to soften her rough edges.
FrivYeti: ((Scouts from Urichos came to investigate the military formation on their border.))
willcoon: Skein narrows his eyes as they part... then moves to Sarasa. "A word, if you would."
Moonsword134: ((I wonder why 100+ troops on their border makes them nervous.))
Moonsword134: ((It's not as if we're armed, trained, and dangerous men with magical support or anything.))
FrivYeti: ((Also, with over half their Dragon-Blooded into your scouting troop.))
willcoon: "Sarasa, as you might understand I am somewhat displeased with the situation."
Wakoid2: Errant Tiger is frowning subtly, looking around the base even as preperations for them to depart again are beginning. While he can't protest the orders, he is concerned about their current situation.
Moonsword134: Valeria looks at him. "You are displeased about this," she observes softly.
DonovanTz: ::Hailey prepares herself by looking over maps of the terrain and looking over possible routes::
Wakoid2: "Not displeased as such... but..." He looks around at the various other soldiers. "I am... concerned about some details that would likely be better discussed amongst ourselves when we are all together."
Moonsword134: She cocks her head at him and then nods.
Wakoid2: ((are we all in the same spot at the moment, actually?))
FrivYeti: ((Should be, yeah.))
willcoon: "Then shall we absent ourselves?"
Moonsword134: Valeria shrugs and looks around to see what everyone else thinks.
DonovanTz: I see no problem with that. The sooner we get moving, the sooner we complete our task and the sooner we can return.
Wakoid2: "I suppose so... though if I could have a quick word with the rest of you before we begin," Errant Tiger said.
DonovanTz has left the room.
willcoon: Skein nods, impatiently, then glances questioningly towards Sarasa.
FrivYeti: ((*headdesk*))
FrivYeti: ((*headdesk*))
FrivYeti: ((*headdesk*))
Moonsword134: ((*goes and gets the 800mg ibuprofen for Friv's impact headache*))
willcoon: ((geez... that desk's looking pretty worn))
FrivYeti: ((He's enroute back.))
FrivYeti: ((He's now logging out and back in to try and make the system work.))
DonovanTz has entered the room.
FrivYeti: ((Alright, we're back on.))
DonovanTz: ((Victory!))
DonovanTz: ((What'd i miss?))
Moonsword134: [21:02] WillCoon: Skein nods, impatiently, then glances questioningly towards Sarasa.
FrivYeti: "Wakoid2: "I suppose so... though if I could have a quick word with the rest of you before we begin," Errant Tiger said."
FrivYeti: ((Which was moments before you vanished, so I dunno if you caught it.))
FrivYeti: Sarasa looks thoughtful and a bit worried, and doesn't seem to catch Skein's look.
Moonsword134: Valeria nods politely in response to Tiger's comment.
FrivYeti: After a moment, she asks, "Will you be wanting our scouts on the embassy, Captain?"
Wakoid2: Errant Tiger looked at her for a moment, considering. On their recent journey, she had been quiet, if not helpful, but she was a member of Darting Lynx's command staff. Sarasa had also just been a bit nervous (though that
Wakoid2: may have been because of Skein's words to her). The Wood-aspect rubbed his chin for a moment, appearing to be considering whether to have her group accompany them, though it was more to guage her reaction to
Wakoid2: his silence. He had concerns about what was going on, and it wouldn't do to let just anyone know what they were.
OnlineHost: Wakoid2 rolled 7 10-sided dice: 6 7 5 8 6 5 6
Wakoid2: "I believe I do, Lieutenant," he finally said. "If anything, the more people of skill we have we us the less that can go wrong."
FrivYeti: Sarasa bows. "Thank you, sir."
Wakoid2: Errant Tiger leads the other Dragon-Bloods, as well as Sarasa and Katsuro, over to a quieter area of the grounds. After quickly scanning around the immediate area for any of Lynx's pther officers, Tiger begins with his concerns...
willcoon: Skein frowns at this, but keeps silent, wanting to hear Tiger out.
Wakoid2: "Lynx somehow _knows_ either what the outcome of the proposed negotiations with Mela's Bounty will turn out, or otherwise what is or is not needed for it..." he says. "Which is why she's all but outright dismissing us from
Wakoid2: the proceedings. However, I don't know how she could already know this, since we were the advance group and have not been told about anyone coming here aside from the group from Urichos."
Moonsword134: "Or she's arrogant or overconfident enough to assume that her mere presence gurantees success," Valeria points out quietly, ignoring whether or not that might not be the best thing to say in front of one of Lynx's officers.
DonovanTz: What do you think Lynx has to gain from removing us? Glory?
willcoon: "...What are you saying, Tiger? She has some sort of other communication with Mela's Bounty?!"
FrivYeti: Sarasa looks distinctly and obviously uncomfortable at the turn this conversation has taken. "I don't think... she doesn't really..." She trails off vaguely.
Moonsword134: "Or she's attempting to delegate authority, if not in a manner that we see as wise," Valeria answers.
Wakoid2: "I'm not saying that she has anything planned, per se, but she does know more than we have been told and is keeping us out of the loop on the situation for some reason."
Moonsword134: Valeria trades a look with Hailey.
FrivYeti: ((Everyone can make a Perception + Investigation roll, if you'd like.))
Moonsword134: As much as the ebon-skinned Earth Aspect dislikes Darting Lynx, she's not prepared to assume that this is anything more than a bad decision.
willcoon: Skein's expression grows distinctly dark, and his buff jacket rustles stormily.
OnlineHost: Moonsword134 rolled 4 10-sided dice: 9 10 9 9
Wakoid2: ((holy...))
FrivYeti: ((*whistles*))
Moonsword134: ((I guess this is paying me back for all those damn nat 1's...))
FrivYeti: ((Yeah, that's hella impressive.))
willcoon: (( wow!))
OnlineHost: willcoon rolled 2 6-sided dice: 4 5
willcoon: ((i cvan never remember the formula...?))
OnlineHost: DonovanTz rolled 2 10-sided dice: 2 2
OnlineHost: DonovanTz rolled 2 10-sided dice: 7 8
Moonsword134: (( //roll-sides#-dice# ))
DonovanTz: ((well, I can get the right number of sides, but not the right number of dice..))
OnlineHost: willcoon rolled 6 10-sided dice: 7 8 5 6 10 2
OnlineHost: DonovanTz rolled 5 10-sided dice: 3 2 7 4 8
willcoon: ((are you seeing a roll for me? if so, what'd I get?))
Moonsword134: ((4 successes))
FrivYeti: ((Will - I read four successes on your roll.)
willcoon: ((thanks : ) ))
Wakoid2: Errant Tiger looks at each of their reactions to this, and how they react to each others' facial responses. He does pay more attention to Sarasa as he did before, but now that there are more people around her, if she was trying
Wakoid2: to hide something she'd have to keep it from each of them. He tries to read her as she looks at the other Dragon-bloods, as he would then be able to see if she was preparing her expression or pose for them, rather
Wakoid2: than having it already prepared for him to see.
OnlineHost: Wakoid2 rolled 8 10-sided dice: 6 4 4 1 10 9 8 6
FrivYeti: ((Well, that's all the rolls. Time for the fun part - yelling. ;) ))
Moonsword134: Valeria taps Sarasa on the shoulder.
Moonsword134: "What is it that you're not telling us?" she asks bluntly.
FrivYeti: Sarasa jumps a bit, and looks around. After a moment, she licks her lips nervously. "I thought you already knew..."
FrivYeti: She sighs heavily. "Darting Lynx didn't want you here in the first place... you were forced on the expedition over her first set of embassy choices."
Moonsword134: "Why?"
Wakoid2: "Who were her original choices?"
FrivYeti: There is a long pause. "Um... I don't know if I should really be... sort of confidential..." Sarasa trails off again, looking around at the four of you worriedly.
FrivYeti: "I mean, if they didn't tell you..." She pauses again.
DonovanTz: ::Hailey lightly brushes her fingertips across the fur on the top of Amaranth's head::
Moonsword134: Valeria glares.
Wakoid2: "If they didn't tell us, then they shouldn't be surprised when we want to _know_," Errant Tiger said. "And believe me... we want to know."
FrivYeti: Sarasa sighs heavily. "General Kaijin didn't approve of Lynx's choices."
FrivYeti: "She didn't want Commander Lynx present either."
FrivYeti: She pauses again, and licks her lips. "But the only other choice was Colonel Maddar, and... um... she didn't want him more."
Moonsword134: Valeria groans and murmurs something barely audible about 'politics'.
FrivYeti: She pauses, and then takes a deep breath. "General Kaijin felt that Commander Lynx's initial embassy group would be one supporting the Colonel's position, not that of the Haven."
FrivYeti: "And she didn't trust that they were the same objectives."
Wakoid2: "Are they?"
Moonsword134: "And his position was felt to be?"
willcoon: Skein's charming smile looks totally out of place against his storm-tossed hair and clothes. "And how does she plan to accomplish said objectives on her own?"
Wakoid2: ((Tag-team interrogation!))
FrivYeti: The battery of questions shakes Sarasa again. She sort of looks around. "I don't know! I'm just a mortal, I don't get to be part of those discussions!"
Moonsword134: Valeria steps closer, glaring balefully. "What do you know about them?" she snarls in a fierce whisper.
FrivYeti: "But you should know that the religion of Mela's Bounty would resonate very, very well with the Colonel. He doesn't approve of General Kaijin's more... egalitarian decisions."
FrivYeti: ((Valeria, roll Charisma + Presence.))
FrivYeti: ((And no penalty for being disturbing! Yay!))
Moonsword134: Valeria's voice gets louder as her eyes flash silver for a moment, her staff slams into the ground in front of the startled mortal. This is not a happy Dragon-Blood, anyone can clearly
Moonsword134: see. Valeria gets in her face. "I want details, I want answers, and I want them now!" she snarls.
Moonsword134: ((Stunt bonus?))
FrivYeti: ((*grins* 1-die stunt. Go for it.))
OnlineHost: Moonsword134 rolled 6 10-sided dice: 7 3 6 2 2 8
Moonsword134: ((...two successes.))
DonovanTz: ::Haily steps between Val and Sarassa.:: That's enough. This is in appropriate.
Moonsword134: ((Also, Hailey, at least, is well aware that the very notion of Mela's Bounty's form of the Immaculate Philosophy is enough to make Valeria grind her teeth.))
FrivYeti: Sarasa takes the entirely dignified approach of cowering behind Hailey, looking fearfully out at Valeria as though she's about to tear her head off.
Moonsword134: Valeria isn't. She's just... decidedly upset at the idea of treason mixed with such a repugnant faith.
Moonsword134: And the phrase "I'm just a mortal" is not one of her favorites.
Moonsword134: She gives Hailey a short, choppy nod and backs off a bit.
Wakoid2: "Unfortunately, unless we want to confront Lynx on this now, there doesn't seem to be much we can do..."
Moonsword134: "Then we go and confront her," Valeria grinds out angrily.
DonovanTz: Confronting Lynx changes nothing. She is well within her authority irregardless of her reasons.
Moonsword134: "And the possibility of disobeying the general's directions means her authority is suspect!" Valeria snaps back, her voice quiet as always but harsh and strained.
Wakoid2: "And how can we prove that, here and now? Who can we prove that to?" Tiger asks.
DonovanTz: I'm sure if you were to look at the orders for this mission you would find that Lynx is operating within them to the letter.
Moonsword134: "May I remind you, sir," she retorts, "that you are the second-ranking officer on this expedition! That means it falls to you to deal with this mess!"
Moonsword134: She gives Hailey a look. "You and I both know that 'operating within the letter of your orders' leaves quite a bit of room for interpretation."
FrivYeti: Sarasa glances around. "Sirs... should I really be present for anything that you say next?"
FrivYeti: "I am still directly in Commander Lynx's chain of command..."
Moonsword134: Valeria glances at her. "I'm sorry," she grinds out. "And you may be but your first duty, our
Moonsword134: first duty, is to Scarlet Haven! Not to Lynx, not to anyone, but to the people and leaders of the Haven!" she reminds them passionately.
Wakoid2: "You believe that you would have to report any further talk we have to Lynx?" he asked Sarasa.
DonovanTz: This is pointless. Sarasa, if you could please accompany me I would like to go over a route to our new destination. ::Hailey turns to Tiger:: We'll be ready to depart once the rest of you come to a decision.
FrivYeti: "I don't know." Sarasa pauses. "I'd prefer not to have to find out..."
FrivYeti: She looks gratefully over at Hailey, and salutes. "Yes, ma'am."
Wakoid2: "Go... go..." He waves the two of them off. "We'll be along shortly, one way or another."
DonovanTz: ::Hailey signals to Amaranth to remain with the rest of the group::
Wakoid2: "I don't suppose you have an opinion on this, Skein?" Tiger asked. "You've been rather withdrawn in this discussion so far, and you're the only one of us without direct military allegience."
willcoon: Skein shakes his head. "I wouldn't trust Lynx in negotiations under normal conditions...
Moonsword134: Valeria's head swivels to fix him with a fierce look, daring him to agree with what she sees as Lynx's goals.
willcoon: and this confidence is only more infuriating.
willcoon: "
willcoon: A ripple goes down Skein's body, as though disturbed by a passing wave. "I will /not/ be betrayed by my so-called commanding officer."
Wakoid2: "Agreed. But as I have said-" He gives a pointed look to Valeria. "There is little we can do unless we would be committed to going directly confronting her, and possibly the rest of her command staff, if not her Wing."
willcoon: "I hoped I could trust Sarasa to help us... but it seems not. Perhaps that is for the best.It seems we shouldn't put too much trust in anyone."
Moonsword134: Valeria nods sharply.
Moonsword134: "I think we can trust her... but her loyalties are divided against themselves," she answers.
Moonsword134: "One once said that situations like these arouse the fiercest of feelings in the best of men," she adds, shaking her head.
Wakoid2: "So, then? We either follow orders, and perhaps try to negotiate with Urichos... or perhaps the Arbiters... ourselves before things get settled between Lynx and Mela's Bounty, or try to confront her, and possibly
Wakoid2: come into direct conflict with a force bigger than my own."
Moonsword134: Valeria sighs angrily. "I don't know. There is little we can do without engaging in treason ourselves, and yet..." she trails off as something occurs to her.
Moonsword134: "We could send Sarasa back to the Haven with a report... including our present assignment," she notes.
willcoon: "If she's turning against us, she's turning against the Haven."
willcoon: Skein considers this. "Perhaps. I'd be wary about sending her through the wyld alone... but then again, perhaps Lynx's zealotry could be useful to us."
Moonsword134: ((If it comes down to a showdown that could wind up souring an alliance with Mela's Bounty, the Arbiters might be a way to even the odds if we need them.))
willcoon: "Consider: if a traitorous faction is allying with Mela's Bounty, it might be best that Yukong remain convinced of their power and dedication, for now."
Moonsword134: "For now," Valeria says grudgingly.
Moonsword134: "But if we don't cut this down now, we run the chance of finding ourselves outnumbered if we must confront them to return home with news of her treachery," she adds.
willcoon: FrivYeti/Hell,/" adds Skein thoughtfully.
Wakoid2: ((dammit... we just can't win...))
Moonsword134: ((Not really.))
Moonsword134: ((We just have to be sneaky, conniving bastards about it.))
Moonsword134: ((And if it comes down to the possibility of Mela's Bounty getting a major new ally because we're being betrayed and the Scarlet Haven is getting shafted, well...))
Moonsword134: ((...then we go to the Arbiters, explain the mess, and go all mystic kung fu crazy on Lynx's treacherous backside.))
Wakoid2: ((actually... what happened to the Arbiters that had been here when we first showed up with Lynx?))
FrivYeti: ((They left again after she arrived, IIRC. They were mostly just there to make sure that they knew where to find you.))
FrivYeti: ((Although they would have left directions to their own public base.))
willcoon: Skein seems to be turning something over in his head.
willcoon: He blinks as he goes through a series of careful calculations.
willcoon: "You know...
Moonsword134: ((Hehehehee... remember, Valeria is a blunt, direct type, bless her soul, I'm a right sneaky bastard sometimes. Don't mix us up. -_^ ))
Wakoid2: ((-isn't very sneaky, except in a physical 'sneak-up-behind-you' way-))
willcoon: I think my concerns are too immediate to go unvoiced. I fear I must bring them to our Commander's attention."
Moonsword134: Valeria gives him a look.
Wakoid2: "I don't suppose you'd care to share if you have a plan of some sort, would you?"
willcoon: "Specifically..." and here, there's a downright sinister glint in his eye, "I fear there may be a streak of /impiety/ amongst our envoy."
Moonsword134: She glares. "Explanation," she says with a soft menace.
willcoon: "Of course, I couldn't be blamed if you were to pass nearby during our discussion. And then perhaps we could have a clearer picture of the situation."
Moonsword134: Valeria isn't getting what he's getting at.
Wakoid2: "And... if we were to construe as what she said as being against the best wishes of Scarlet Haven?"
Moonsword134: She likes where Tiger seems to be going with it, though.
willcoon: Skein simply smiles and opens his hands outward in a gesture of agreement with the natural conclusion.
Moonsword134: She grins nastily and nods.
FrivYeti: ((OOC: Yeah, see? Aren't you glad you sent Sarasa away?))
Moonsword134: ((*nasty smile*))
willcoon: "However... we can't move ahead unless Hailey is on board. Valeria, would you like to ask her her opinion?"
Moonsword134: She nods. "I'll handle it," she promises, trotting off to Hailey.
willcoon: "Thank you, Valeria." Skein smiles, pleased.
FrivYeti: As the two head off, Sarasa nods to Hailey. "Um... thank you for stepping in, Ma'am."
DonovanTz: I've known Valeria for a long time.
DonovanTz: Her heart's in the right place but she is...distanced from the reality of the military
FrivYeti: Sarasa nods thoughtfully. "I suppose I can understand."
FrivYeti: "But that was frightening, ma'am. I really thought she might..." She stops abruptly, and blushes. "Well. She wouldn't have actually."
FrivYeti: "Right?"
DonovanTz: No, she would not have.
DonovanTz: You didn't do anything wrong.
FrivYeti: Sarasa nods after a moment. "I know that Commander Lynx can give off the wrong impression, but I don't believe that she would willingly hurt Scarlet Haven. She couldn't."
FrivYeti: "I suppose I didn't make a very good impression on her behalf back there, though."
DonovanTz: Like I said you didn't do anything wrong. I'm sure you know about the Commander's reputation. There's a lot of bias held by those not in her camp...
FrivYeti: Sarasa nods glumly. "And she doesn't help it much a lot of the time. I know, Ma'am. But I've been working for her since I first enlisted. I'm just worried."
DonovanTz: Worried about anything in particular?
FrivYeti: "Commander Lynx is a very proud woman. If she does get involved in something stupid, she might not back out if things turn sour..." She trails off, and sighs. "Never mind, Ma'am. We should look over those maps."
DonovanTz: The Commander didn't get to her position by being incompetent. I think she's far more clever then she let's on. ::Hailey pauses for a moment::If you have concerns that you're worried about voicing to the others, my ear is always availble...
DonovanTz: You are right, though, we should probably take a look at those maps. ::Haily smiles lighlty::
FrivYeti: Sarasa smiles in return, looking more relieved, and joins Hailey in looking over the maps, which is where they are at when Valeria comes to get her.
Moonsword134: Valeria taps Hailey on the shoulder.
Moonsword134: "I need to speak with you for a moment," she says softly.
DonovanTz: ::Hailey looks up, then glances down at Amaranth, who followed Val:: Please excuse me for a moment.
DonovanTz: ::She nods to Val and heads out of the tent.""
Moonsword134: Valeria moves her a short distance away and explains, "Skein and Tiger have an idea to confront Lynx and accuse her of impeity."
Moonsword134: She nods slightly and continues, "If we gauge her responses, we may be able to glean additional information to get to the bottom of this mess."
DonovanTz: Your going to accuse Lynx of not following the Immaculate faith? ::Hailey seems skeptical.
Moonsword134: "No, Skein is," Valeria replies.
DonovanTz: That was a collective "you." Are you suspicious that she's using the Fatih as a shield for her own motives?
Moonsword134: "It's possible," Valeria replies, her eyes narrowed. "I'm more suspicious that her faith might be her motive."
DonovanTz: Val...why is that a bad thing? Ultimately the Faith supports the Haven.
DonovanTz: Our mission here is to find a lifeline out of the Wyld so our people can survive and grow.
Moonsword134: "The Faith in general, yes... but would you see imposing the version used by Mela's Bounty as beneficial?" she asks.
Moonsword134: "Or the betrayal of the Haven over a fanatic's own schismatic doctrines?"
willcoon: ((well, technically, I'm going to accuse everyone of impiety, but no biggie.))
DonovanTz: I can't believe you seriously think Lynx is trying to betray the Haven because she's part of Madar's faction.
Moonsword134: "I don't know what to think. All I know is that we have a mess on our hands and this seems the best way to resolve it," Valeria answers.
DonovanTz: ::Haily shakes her head:: I think you're all being reactionary. Explain to me how Lynx creating a strong tie to Mela's Bounty is an act of treason.
Moonsword134: "Reactionary?" Valeria asks, raising an eyebrow, surprised. "You're calling me reactionary?"
Moonsword134: ((Valeria is a liberal, not a reactionary, under Immaculate theology.))
FrivYeti: ((Reactionary, in this case, is referring to reacting to things that haven't happened yet, I believe.))
FrivYeti: ((As opposed to actual religious meaning.))
Moonsword134: She shakes her head. "We might be overreacting... but if we aren't, then who else is to handle this mess?"
DonovanTz: ((point friv, it's a misuse of theh word by Hailey))
DonovanTz: Why is it a mess?
Moonsword134: "Politics is always a mess," Valeria answers with a disgusted look.
DonovanTz: Because you and Tiger disagree with Madar's faction and Skein's pride is hurt?
willcoon: (( you think that's not enough of a mess?! ))
Moonsword134: Valeria sighs again. "No... because the General disagrees with Madar's faction and it's possible that Lynx may be about to act in a way contrary to the spirit of our orders."
FrivYeti: ((We all think your pride is messy, Will. ;) ))
DonovanTz: The spirit of our orders is to network and make contacts. The only way Lynx could possibly be betraying the Haven is if she was planning on allying with Mela's Bounty and invading it, and if that's what you think is going on, then
DonovanTz: I think you've lost your mind.
DonovanTz: Disagreeing with the General is not the same as betraying the Haven.
willcoon: (( massive pride-arterial-spray))
Moonsword134: Valeria runs her hand through her white hair and sighs, shaking her head. "I just... there's something fishy about this whole thing."
Moonsword134: Then she looks at Hailey. "If you disagree, then fine. I'll let the others know that, old friend. And... thank you for listening, at least."
DonovanTz: The notion that Lynx would have rather brought members of her own camp isn't a conspiracy, Val, it's common sense.
Moonsword134: Valeria raises an eyebrow. "Would you like a system of Speakers put in place in the Haven?" she asks bluntly. "Part of what has let us even survive is the strength of the bonds between mortal and Terrestrial."
DonovanTz: I think it's a waste of time and will only damage our reputations within the expedition. I'm not a politician though, I'm rank and file. If Skein and Tiger think this is the thing to do, well, they;re the political specialist and
DonovanTz: my CO, and i'll trust their judgement.
Moonsword134: Valeria shrugs and reaches her hand out. "Fine. I can respect that position."
Moonsword134: Before Hailey can react, she adds, "And the least we must do is watch. Promise me that you'll at least do that."
DonovanTz: Watching, at least, is something I'm good at. ::she scritches amaranth:: and Ammy here is a pretty good judge of character, I won't knowling cut my own throat.
DonovanTz: ((er, knowingly))
Moonsword134: Valeria nods and touches her shoulder in a friendly fashion.
Moonsword134: "Good. And, like I said, thank you."
Moonsword134: Then she turns and returns to where Tiger and Skein are standing.
DonovanTz: You know I'm not one for hard feelings, thanks for seeking my opinion. ::Hailey turns and goes back to the tent whilst Amaranth follows Val back to the group::
willcoon: Skein raises his eyebrows expectantly.
Moonsword134: "She's not inclined to agree with our assessment of the situation," Valeria says bluntly.
willcoon: "She thinks Lynx isn't going behind our backs? Or that she's a tactful diplomat? ... Or that it
willcoon: it's not a problem for some reason?"
Moonsword134: Valeria sighs and shakes her head. "She doesn't see any malice in the politics of the situation," Valeria explains.
Moonsword134: "She's also not going to protest if we decide to investigate further, either," she's quick to add.
willcoon: Skein frowns. "Do I need to speak with her?"
willcoon: At this he pauses. "Really. Well, then we needn't press the issue."
Moonsword134: Valeria sighs again and slumps against a tree. "I don't know. Tiger, what do you think?"
Moonsword134: She's closed her eyes thoughtfully. There's something... bothersome about the situation.
Wakoid2: "About Hailey's disagreement, or the situation with Lynx itself?"
Moonsword134: "The situation. Hailey isn't as inclined to see shadows where we are... she's a good soldier," Valeria says with a soft, sad smile.
Wakoid2: Tiger nods. "If only I could be just a soldier as well..." He sighs and shakes his head. "We do this, then. If Lynx is plotting against the General's wishes, we try our best to stop it."
FrivYeti: ((Alright, folks, since "Operation Get Lynx Yelling" will probably take some time, I'm going to declare session here.))
FrivYeti: ((And since we haven't had one in a while, and this seems like an excellent time, I'm also declaring the end of a story! Everyone gets 8 XP, and recovers all Willpower and Virtue channels. :) ))
DonovanTz: ((Huzzah!))
Wakoid2: ((yay!!))
Moonsword134: ((Yay. Not that I've actually used any of that, but I could use the XP. :P ))
FrivYeti: ((Also, on the subject - everyone except Moonsword currently has about 45-48 unspent experience.))
willcoon: ((Sounds good! Love the conflict, everyone... : ) ))
FrivYeti: ((You may want to consider expenditures.))
FrivYeti: ((You know, before everything finishes going to hell.))
Moonsword134: ((The only reason I don't is because I've already started spending.))
Wakoid2: ((oh, I know a few things I want to buy up...))
willcoon: ((good point))
FrivYeti: ((Oh, and Sarasa's conversation with Hailey has been added to the chat log for those who are OOC curious.))
Moonsword134: ((What do people think of me grabbing Terrestrial Circle+Emerald Countermagic?))
Moonsword134: ((And the idea of the Obsidian Shotgun vs. Impervious Skin of Stone?))
Wakoid2: ((nice to have, but doesn't learning sorcery require more IC stuff than just spending xp?))
Moonsword134: ((I've already hashed that out with Friv.))
FrivYeti: ((Although I can't get the damned macros working in CrimsonEditor.))
DonovanTz: ((Hey, i've only got 32, but feel free to inflate that total so i match))
Moonsword134: ((Friv, it's one macro...))
Moonsword134: ((You define it, and then hold down the button.))
Moonsword134: ((:P))
FrivYeti: ((Yeah, it won't let me define macros.))
FrivYeti: ((At all.))
Moonsword134: ((I forget but there's a trick to it.))
Wakoid2: ((what macros?))
FrivYeti: ((Crimson Editor, which is a text editor, has a macro system to let me quicklist the
s at the end of each line on the chat log.))
Moonsword134: ((Basically an 'end of line + paste' macro in a programmer's text editor.))
Moonsword134: ((Instead of doing them, you know, by hand, which is unfathomably irritating, I found a better way.))
Moonsword134: ((Friv, post the log and I'll deal with it.))
FrivYeti: ((Very good.))
Moonsword134: ((And, really, I do need an opinion. What do people think is more useful: Death of Obsidian Butterflies (which I call the Obsidian Shotgun for obvious reasons) or Impervious Skin of Stone?))
FrivYeti: ((Have a good night, folks, and I'll see y'all next week for the dramatic third story!))
Moonsword134: ((See you, Friv.))
FrivYeti: ((I suggest Skin of Stone, personally.))
willcoon: ((night friv!))
FrivYeti: ((It has more general applications, and a nice, long duration.))
Moonsword134: ((Okay.))
willcoon: ((hm. that might be wiser.. let'se see
