Calling the Phantom Legion
Cost: 10+ motes
Duration: One Scene
Type: Simple
Minimum Performance: 5
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Phantom-Conjuring Method
Characters using this charm can summon great hordes of phantom beings to scare and confuse their foes or amaze and entertain his audience. The player rolls his characters Manipulation + Performance and then may spend motes equal to his Manipulation+Performance to make the effects greater. For each mote spent the character summons 15 more phantoms and when the charm is used 15 phantoms are summoned automatically. If used in battle the phantoms appear as the enemies’ worst fear, causing confusion, panic and terror. The character may choose to not affect his allies with the effects of this charm. The range of the charm is Essence x 1000 yards and all in the area must make a Willpower+Temperance roll with a difficulty of the players performance roll. If they fail the roll the enemies seem to solidify and become very real to the affected person, more than likely requiring a valor roll to fight back and to approach the player, as he appears to be commanding the mighty horde of the person’s fears. Those who make the roll see the enemies for what they really are and may easily ignore them and approach the character normally. If used as a performance the rolls are the same but the affects may describe a story or enact a play instead of attempting to scare the onlookers.

This is my first attempt at an actual charm and I am creating it for a performance line for an Eclipse Bard I am playing in a tabletop game. DayisDawnreaver
Nice effect Dayis, however I think the Essence x 1000 range is a bit much. You are talking about being able to effect an entire legion at once which I think should be the exclusive purview of at least essence 5. Very cool idea I would just limit the range to essence x 100 yards and you still have a good, strong, but somewhat localized effect. Just my .02 ~Insanewizard
It is an issue that I keep going back and forth on. I plan to make higher essence charms under this concept of charm ability, but it is supposed to be a kind of battle performance. The reason it is Essence x 1000 is because of the fact that beyond possibly scaring the crap out of a lot of people it doesn't do anything. If I were to make it Essence x 100 I think it would end up requiring perofrmanc 4 and essence 2 or 3, probably 3. DayisDawnreaver
Honestly, my opinion is that it doesn't actually do enough, all you've done is codified a possible stunt that could be done with Phantom-Conjuring Technique. Perhaps you should look at a base mechanical effect of "anyone effected must make a Valor check with a difficulty calculated based on Essence or suffer a natural mental influence of fear". That seems to be what you were trying to get -- Somori
