Cricket and Kestrel notes: Chapter 1

Before I say anything, I want to give credit where credit is due. Dim has been nothing short of an angel while I was writing this; without him, the character of Sauda wouldn't exist, and he makes an incredible springboard for other ideas. The spirit of a lot of what goes on in this was inspired by me pestering him for help, and it wouldn't have gotten written without him.

The story can start with a conversation with Cricket's mother. You won't realize her mother is a ghost until after the conversation.

Perhaps her mother left her an important heirloom-- something artifactish, but not blatant-- something unable to be used by mortals. Something passed down from daughter to daughter. Something that could be passed off as simple jewelery. A pendant on a silver chain. Starmetal or Moonsilver, depending on the type of Exalt I want to bring in to this.

A Bronze Faction Sidereal, new recruit, is sent to watch her. Not kill her, watch her-- for some reason, it would cause too much of an uproar in Sijan if she died there. Or rather-- okay.

They (the Bronze Faction) want the artifact necklace. It does something important, though it's not mentioned what important thing it does. Thing is, the necklace only works when given willingly, otherwise it will crumble into dust.

Pale Cricket is barren and has no interest in love; therefore, the necklace will accompany her into the underworld when she dies.

The Bronze Faction guy's only job was to watch her, figure out what would lure her out of the city, and do so. He falls in love with her from afar. His name is Summer Kestrel. He's ridiculously handsome, golden skin and dark hair-- it would scream angst if he were Chosen of Endings. I don't want that. Maybe I can just avoid mention of the color of his eyes.

The bad guy is actually a bad girl. A goddess. Goddess of something-- ridiculously beautiful, she's Kestrel's lover before he's sent on assignment. Goddess of Midnight.
