Solar Linguistics Charms

by haren

Words Become as Truth
Cost: 5 motes, 1 Willpower
Duration: One scene
Type: Simple
Min. Linguistics: 5
Min. Essence: 3
Prereqs: Unbreakable Fascination Method

The Solar has learned that words are more than just a concept, and can create a sort of reality in the reader of them. They can cause a single person to be unable to distinguish a read word from reality. While they see the word, their mind shows them instead something of the concept of the word (with modification by their own expectations). This can even go so far as to imagine themselves in a shown scene with the proper words, or to experience things that are written (especially if written about themselves.) This Charm does not function on those of higher permanent Essence than the user.

Awesome charm. One question though, what if you say write in a book that a particular person is dead and they read it? -BogMod

They won't die... but probably fall into a temporary coma, or think they're a ghost. Yes, much evil here. - haren

Any limitation or defense? Only works on a target with lower permanent Essence, the target may roll Willpower against a difficulty of the Solar's permanent Essence, that sort of thing? - Quendalon

Oops, forgot that part. But, there's the clarification. It's nasty... but considering the numerous required Charms to get to it... It's where it should be. ^_^ - haren

Is there a follow-up that (for example) lets you inscribe runes, words, characters, glyphs, or something into a material to have a semi-permanent effect? For example, a sign on the wall of an otherwise-empty room reading "you see a table and chairs", and people really see it. -- BillGarrett

Easily. ^_^ I could write up one. Hiding a secret door behind a real door, with a flat panel with the words "Empty and boring room." written there. Of course, that effect could be defeated by proper Awareness Charms. - haren
