Barbarian Problems

Always too many barbarians. ~TheHoverpope

There's a massive barbarian tribe just south of a small, lightly defended city. The warchief, known for his valour and his reason, has come to town to negotiate peace. The morning of the negotiations, he turns up dead. More strangely, his brash and arrogant son turns up to claim the leadership of the tribe - four times. Four identical sons have arrived, each claiming to be the real heir, all evidently telling the truth; now, they're at each other's throats. Where did they come from? How did the warchief die? Can the heroes save the negotiations and prevent excessive bloodshed?


There's a problem with our barbarians. -- Darloth

There's a massive barbarian tribe just south of a small, lightly defended city. Every year, the city gives tribute, and the people are constantly complaining about how they have to work so that the barbarians can live off their produce for free, etc. But, even though the tribute is expensive, it's not as expensive as hiring a standing army would be, and the barbarians keep a rival kingdom/city/whatever from invading, and the rulership (maybe at least some people too, maybe not) know this. They're happy with the arrangement, on the whole. Recently though, the barbarians have got tired of their life of combat and roving around looting places, and are dispersing, perhaps due to boredom, or perhaps some meddling exalt who heard the citypeople's complaints intervened (be careful what you wish for and all that). Can the heroes save the city and/or the tribe, and which will they see as the more important problem?

There's a massive barbarian tribe just south of a small, lightly defended city. Every year, during winter, the barbarians raid the city when their food supply is low. Resultantly, the people have grown accustomed to growing more then they require every year so they can survive the winter. Bad blood and distrust has kept city-folk from being willing to reach any agreement with the barbarians. This past growing season, there land did not produce enough for the city by it self, let alone the barbarians. It's nearing the time when the begin their annual raides and the people are splitting into factions, open negociations, all out war, and abandoning their homes for elsewhere seem to be the prevailing groups. With which group will our heros side with? Can they save the city.


Barbarians: Not Just For Breakfast -- Falcon

There's a massive barbarian tribe just south of a small, lightly defended city. In a few days, the rites of adulthood will begin and the young men and women of the tribe - by themselves, a force sufficient to overwhelm those light defences - will descend on the city to shed blood and gain their first scars. But why is this tribe hundreds of miles from its usual territory? What is concealed in the twisting catacombs under the city? Who is the shadowy figure who wants the PCs to ride out the storm? And are the barbarians' ancestor spirits manifesting in such numbers to encourage the bloodshed, or protest against it?


Barbarians worship Mars, city-dwellers worship Venus. -- Darloth

There's a massive barbarian tribe just south of a small, lightly defended city. However, the daughter of the tribal chief has fallen in love with a rich debutant of the city, who yearns to prove himself to his ladylove, and seeks to gain honorary membership by performing all sorts of strange and difficult rites. Does the chief approve, or perhaps he wants the lad to fail? What about the tribal shaman, and what do the spirits say? Also, consider what the city and the boy's family might think/do, and just think of the many possibilities for player intervention every which way.

You know, if this keeps up, the rangers of Creation will say: "Well, there's sometimes no trees in a city, but if you just look to see which side the barbarians are camping outside, that'll be south."

There just seems to be an unofficial 'rule' on this relay that says "reuse a single definite sentence from seed to seed", like in 'Suddnely, ninjas! Ninjas everywhere!'. I'm just a sucker for consistency. - Falcon
