Immortal Kombat

The rules are simple, the fluff nigh non-existent. Pick a splat, pick a Martial Arts Style; FIGHT.

It would be best if all participants in a match were of equivalent power tier and Essence.

  • Perhaps a series of matches
    • Unarmed + Unarmoured
    • Armed and Armoured (No Artefacts)
    • Artefacts
  • Say, 20 Charms total per contestant
    • This includes MA Style (usually 9-12 Charms)
    • Contestants may mutually agree to more or fewer Charms
  • Same Essence level
    • perhaps a match at Ess 3, and a match at Ess 5
  • Double ups are allowed!
    • Nothing wrong with two Solar with Lunar Hero Style pairing off, for example, it just won't prove who's MA style is strongest. :)

This is a potential 6 matches per pair of contestants! But some can be skipped, negotiation encouraged. Depends how long the matches go for I suppose. All for fun. :)

  • Essence 3 Character builds
    • Make a starting character. Simple eh?
    • The Charms and Essence are assumed to be where all your XP has been spent to date.
    • Any Charms you do not qualify for in your Style, you do not have. Duh! But you do get that number of extra Charms if needed to balance with opponent.
    • you get three bonus points to use solely for building a combo
  • Essence 5 Character builds
    • Take that same character,
    • increase Essence to 5,
    • add 50xp
    • Get the rest of Style Charms free, 5 other charms of your choice and character with least number of Charms in total gets bonus Charms.
    • You get 4bp, and then 5bp solely for building combos (Or Arrays, as it were)

Allowed/recommended Celestial MA Styles listed below. Put your name next to any you wish to try out.

  • Usable as written : Recommended
    • Storm Crow Style
    • Arms of the Unconquered Sun Style
    • Crane Style
    • Crystal Chameleon Style
    • Dark Messiah Style (I will not allow Void Avatar Prana in this tournament, consider it non-existent)
      • nikink - Bad Moon Rising, lunar full moon
    • Hungry Ghost Style
    • Infernal Monster Style
    • Lunar Hero Style
    • Snake Style
    • Solar Hero Style
      • Sabis - Solar: Twice Clashing Lightning, Night Caste Solar
    • Solar Hero Style (Jon Chung's revision, disallowed for Solars in this tournament due to being Solar level charms for them)
    • The Art of Forceful Declaration Style
    • The Art of Meditative Discussion Style
    • The Art of Relentless Persuasion Style
    • The Art of Victorious Concession Style
    • Thousand Wounding Gears (Alchemical)
    • Violet Bier of Sorrows Style (Jon Chung's revision, more mechanically sound)
  • Ok, but some charms poorly executed: Feel free to use if you wish, they have been errated. Remaining wonky Charms (if any) will be addressed as they arise.
    • Air Dragon Style (I have compiled the Style + Errata if you want it)
    • Earth Dragon Style (I have compiled the Style + Errata if you want it)
    • Fire Dragon Style
    • Violet Bier of Sorrows Style
    • Water Dragon Style
    • Wood Dragon Style
  • Ok, bit wonky: Feel free to use, but they have not yet been errated, so more wonky than the others.
    • Ebon Shadow Style
    • Mantis Style
    • Tiger Style

Comments and Observations

I would imagine, before any contest has begun, the Immaculate Dragon Styles will be among the most powerful. I would like Storm Crow Style to be slightly more powerful than Snake by Essence 5, and hopefully about equal at Essence 3.

Bencyclopedia has also been pondering a Lunar Clinch god build. Clinchy styles I can think of (without double checking books): IMS, SHS, MS and DMS.

Are all currently printed charms available (barring the ones you've already disallowed)? For instance, I'd like to try out the solar hero build, but to do so I'd like to utilize expansion charms from Lords of Creation, Internals, and Glories most High: Unconquered Sun. --Sabis

DotFA Charms are fine. Shame no Solar charms exist in that book. But the Lunar + DB one are cool, taken with any relevant errata. Solar Hero Expansions from SotM aren't recommended, but I suppose they'd be ok if you want them. Jon Chung's revisions of those Charms are fine. :) nikink
DotFA has no solar charms?? Lords of creation, pages 55-66 seem to have them... some of which I'd like to use, like the solar hero expansion charm and a certain athletics charm.
