Aoshi (Storm Crow Style)

vs

Hestia (Crystal Chameleon Style)

Match rules:

Competitors started 58 yards apart in a hilly landscape littered with boulders and a sprinkling of trees. The air is warm but the light breeze contains a chill.
All Artifacts, Hearthstones, weapons and armour allowed.
To the death(ish).

Tick -1

Aoshi and Hestia Join Battle!

Aoshi activates Oncoming Storm Awareness for 1m to get a result of 5. Hestia rolls a 5 as well, so Aoshi spends another 2m to get a final result of 6.

Tick 0

Aoshi easily spies the looming Lunar lady and ducks behind a large boulder to activate Storm Crow Form.

(Speed 5, DV -1)

Tick 1

Hestia copies the wily Sidereal girl and jumps behind a boulder of her own. She activates Deadly Beastman Transformation and Relentless Lunar Fury.

(Speed 5, DV -1)

Tick 2

Tick 3

Tick 4

Tick 5

Aoshi, still cowering behind a boulder, activates Heaven-Scouring Windstorm Technique.

(Speed 5, DV -1)

Tick 6

Hestia, now a hulking tigress beastman, activates Flashing Passage. In a single heartbeat she almost closes the gap to Aoshi's boulder, covering 48 yards!

(Speed 3 Dash action, -2)

Tick 7

Tick 8

Tick 9

Hestia dashes to the top of the boulder does a somersault flip through the air and lands behind the Sidereal. With a confident snarl she thrusts her Vajra backwards into the girl's arm. Aoshi is grazed by the moonsilver point as she tries to Parry. (3L) First blood!

(Speed 5, DV -3) (Aoshi takes 3 wounds, now at -1 wound penalty)

Tick 10

Grunting through gritted teeth, the Endings Caste drives her Starmetal Vajra through Hestia's back and into the Lunar's jaw. (9L)

(Speed 5, DV -1) (Hestia takes 9 wounds, now at -2 wound penalty)

Tick 11

Tick 12

Tick 13

Tick 14

Hestia pulls herself forward with Aoshi's Vajra still impaling her. She attempts to pull the weapon out of the Sidereal's hand in the same motion to free herself. Unfortunately Aoshi's grip is too strong to be disarmed, but the tigress is now free. She spins and stabs at the Sidereal's throat, but her feeble attack is easily knocked aside by the lightning fast parries of the Stormcrow!

(Speed 5, DV -1)

Tick 15

Aoshi activates her Heaven Splitting Moment combo! Her Vajra darts forward, sheathed in crackling essence lightning. It drives past Hestia's best efforts to defend and pierces deep into her agonised body, before a rumbling sonic boom washes over her to blast the blood spray across the landscpe. (7L)

Hestia is not yet defeated, though. She activates her Peek-a-Boo combo in response and performs a mighty counter attack! Before Aoshi can blink, the Lunar is behind her. Three times Aoshi is stabbed. The first strike explodes out her heart, killing her instantly, but before her lifeless body can slump to the ground, two more holes have been punched through her torso. (12L, 7L, 9L)

Tick 16

The arena vanishes in a round of applause.

Hestia is declared the victor!

Postscript

The Bureau of Endings lodges a formal complaint over the outcome of this battle due to certain discrepencies in Fate during the final 2 Ticks: Hestia declared a damage enhancing Charm on Tick 14, but missed. Thus Aoshi activated her Combo on Tick 15 thinking that Hestia had used her Charm for the action. However, on Tick 15, after Aoshi attacked, Hestia realised that since she had missed, she would not, and could not, have activated that Charm, and thus could activate her counterattack Combo. Then during the resolution of that counterattack, Post Soak damage levels should have been doubled, but somehow the Post Soak damage dice were being doubled first, then the successes doubled as well.

Aoshi agreed this damage multiplication would not have significantly affected the outcome, but does think that had she known Hestia had a Charm activation free, she would not have unleashed her Combo and left herself so exposed.

Comments from the Peanut Gallery

First use of Storm Crow Style went reasonably well I feel. I look forward to seeing it in action again. Form Charm Parry effects are damn sweet, but as they do not help vs unexpected attacks the effect is not unreasonably strong. Crystal Chameleon Style is nasty with that Combo allowing for a surprise attack, thus negating the Storm Crow Parry, and then doubling damage on each unexpected attack in a 3 attack flurry with no multiple action penalty. The coordinated attack penalty of the Combo was unnecessary, as the attack was unexpected and thus Aoshi was at DV 0 anyway. Brutal Counterattack if that Surprise roll works! :) nikink
