Mad God Mien

Fiend of the Marches

Cost: None
Duration: Permanent
Minimum Essence: 4
Prerequisites: Mad God Mien

Mad God Mien, while useful, is a matter of form over power and can still be outdone with the proper methods. The protection that it grants can be taken a bit further with the application of this Charm, which draws from the rawest of Wyld Essence to put the raksha that much closer to the true princes of Chaos.

When activating an Assumption, the raksha may opt to also activate Fiend of the Marches. This makes the fate-snarling power of Mad God Mien (barring the intervention of the Incarna or primordial-level entities) absolutely irrevocable. However, this effect also classifies the raksha as a 'creature of darkness' and an Enemy of Creation for as long as the Assumption is active.

Everything-Ending Terror

Cost: 10 motes, 3 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Simple
Minimum Essence: 4
Prerequisites: Fiend of the Marches

Invoking a timeless fear that has no name, then wrapping its aura around them, the Mad God becomes a creature of horror and awe. Finding one's courage becomes all the more difficult in the raksha's presence. This Charm grants the following ability.

Terror Sublime: The raksha exudes a constant aura that horrifies the shaped and unsettles even Wyld things. All creatures (allies may be excluded with a Willpower point spent at the start of each scene) within (Essence x 4) yards of the raksha are required to make a Valor check at difficulty 2 the first time they enter the aura. Failure imposes a -2 wyld penalty to all actions afflicted Creation-born take while in range, while Wyld-aligned things only suffer a -1 wyld penalty. Success cuts the penalty to -1 for Creation-born and negates it for Wyld beings.

No matter the outcome of the Valor check, all within the raksha's aura are forced to spend an additional point of Willpower when using Willpower outside of Charm costs. If the affected only has one temporary point of Willpower, they do not go 'in debt' -- they simply spend the last dot without incident.

The raksha who wishes to use this charm must be in an Assumption fortified with Fiend of the Marches.

Elemental Influence

Assumption of the (Element) Dragon Attitude

Cost: 10 motes, 2 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of Elemental Shape (Element)

This charm (which is actually five separate charms for each element) allows a raksha to pass through the gateway Nirakara and exist as a shaped creature within Creation. Tapping into the raw, elemental forces they seek to emulate, as well as the residual dreams and fantasies mortals have of the Dragon-Blooded, the raksha can mold themselves into a slightly exaggerated version of an Exalted Dynast of the chosen elemental aspect.

The raksha in such a form appears to be quite human, even though the normal signs and mannerisms that the Terrestrial Exalted bear are somewhat overdone. Nonetheless, the raksha seems normal to mortals, spirits and other Dragon-Blooded, and convincing them otherwise is not easy (up to the ST, but the act of convincing and subsequent check shouldn't be easy). All other Exalted and Wyld-things can see through this facade with only casual observance of the raksha's powers and behavior, needing only a single success on a Perception check after having had enough time to observe the raksha in question.

The raksha may mimic the anima effect that clearly shows them to be as one of the Dragon-Blooded at will and at no cost. Also, the raksha gains an automatic success to all ability checks tied to the five abilities of their chosen aspect, thanks to gleaned dreams the raksha strives to emulate.

This is an Assumption-type charm.

Banner of the Earth Prince

Cost: 1 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of the (Element) Dragon Attitude

With a flourish and a cry to the heavens, the raksha may use a bit of their own Essence to kindle a blazing wave of damaging essence, similar to the final stage of anima flux for a Terrestrial. This Charm grants the following ability.

Ignite the Blood: This false anima acts in a manner similar to a Fire Aspect's 5-mote anima ignition effect, having the same cost to activate and inflicting a number of dice of Lethal damage equal to the raksha's Essence when applicable. Even this effect is overblown, extending a number of feet equal to the raksha's (Essence x 3), and takes on a truly dramatic appearance. Any being able to see the ebb and flow of essence can instantly tell that this 'anima' is false, but still very dangerous

This effect lasts for the remainder of the scene, and can only be contained with a point of Willpower.

Dragon's Spirit Calls the Faithful

Cost: 1 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of the (Element) Dragon Attitude

The raksha wraps the dreams of the Dragon-Blooded around himself tightly, and those who respect the Princes and accept their role as the champions of Creation gladly aide the false Dragons. This Charm gives the raksha the following ability.

Rallying Dragon: For 1 mote, the raksha can grant a 2-die Wyld bonus to either single witnessed action performed by those acting in their behalf (under the assumption that they're aiding the Blooded as a whole) or performed by themselves when attempting to interact with such individuals. This includes mortals, other Dragon-Blooded and all other entities save for Celestial Exalted.

Dragon's Spirit Scourges the Unholy

Cost: 1 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of the (Element) Dragon Attitude

The raksha wraps the dreams of the Dragon-Blooded around himself tightly, and those are named Demon, Enemy and Anathema would be wise to avoid their wrath. This Charm gives the raksha the following ability.

Banishing Dragon: For 5 motes the raksha can inflict an environmental Wyld equal to their Essence on a single witnessed action performed by those that are deemed 'Anathema' by the Immaculate Order.

False Jade Invocation

Cost: 10 motes, 1 gossamer
Duration: Instant
Type: Supplemental
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Banner of the Earth Prince

The raksha manifests in Creation one of the treasures of the Wyld. This Charm allows the raksha to invoke a possession into Creation, filling in the gaps in its shape and Essence with the tendencies and more solid, functional shapes and forms one comes to expect in an object made from Jade. The object takes on a extremely convincing jade-like appearance befitting the Aspect chosen during activation of Assumption of the (Element) Dragon Attitude, and remains impossible to discern as false unless touched by an Essence-user (even a heroic mortal with Awakened Essence) or examined by alchemical means. The latter does not even require a roll, merely at least an hour of basic, non-destructive study and chemical testing.

True Jade Invocation

Cost: 15 motes, 2 gossamer
Duration: Instant
Type: Supplemental
Minimum Essence: 4
Prerequisites: False Jade Invocation

The raksha manifests in Creation one of the treasures of the Wyld. This Charm allows the raksha to invoke a possession into Creation, filling in the gaps in its shape and Essence with the tendencies and more solid, functional shapes and forms one comes to expect in an object made from Jade. These dreams are much more pure and crystallized than those from False Jade Invocation, and for all intents and purposes, the object is made from a suitable color of elemental Jade. So long as the object remains in Creation, it is considered to be as hard as a Magical Material, and gains any bonuses to stats and added effects that Jade would grant to an artifact.

This is not without its limits, however -- an Exalt who interacts with such an object for more than a minute (be it through touch or in the heat of battle) may immediately make a Willpower check against the invoking raksha's Essence. If they succeed, the object's added effects do not apply to them, although the invoked item is still Jade-hard. Dragon-Blooded gain a number of bonus dice equal to their Essence on this check, and automatically succeed if the Jade type matches their inborn Element.

Object Possession

Assumption of Creation's Belongings

Cost: 5 motes, 1 or 0 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 1
Prerequisites: None

A particularly mean raksha devised a way to give the people in Creation a scare; placing a part of himself within the objects there and terrorizing the poor, helpless mortals. Eventually, he found other interesting uses for this trick, and shared the way with others. What started as a practical joke became a useful tool with minimal risk.

This Charm allows a raksha to pass his Ring through the gateway Nirakara and embed it into an object no larger than anything two men could fight on. This effect targets a single item that is neither warded against the Wyld nor made from cold iron, as far away as the raksha can see. Once embedded, the raksha may use the object as an anchor for their senses (a free action), speak through the object and manipulate it to some degree, either moving parts of it that are intended to move or clumsily tossing the object around.

The raksha must actually have a Ring Grace to use this charm, and must have ownership of it. The raksha may have another Assumption charm active before he uses this Charm; if this is the case, the gossamer cost is reduced to 0. Should the object holding the Grace be suitably destroyed, the raksha takes an unsoakable point of Lethal damage, and has their Ring returned to them.

Emergency Relocation Scheme

Cost: 5 motes, 0 gossamer
Duration: Instant
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 1
Prerequisites: Assumption of Creation's Belongings

One of the first tricks a raksha who walks the path of Creation's Belongings is to quickly shift to another object when the one his Ring resides within is in danger of being destroyed. As long as the raksha's senses are focused on (and thus, around) the possessed object, they may use this charm to hop into any object within line of sight, as per Assumption of Creation's Belongings. This may be used to 'defend' against being found out, although the sudden jump leaves a momentary trace of Wyld essence that can be tracked between the objects, using an applicable Awareness or Occult check at difficulty 5.

Innermost Sanctuary

Cost: 10 motes, 1 gossamer, 1 Experience Point
Duration: One decade
Type: Simple
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Emergency Relocation Scheme

Once the raksha picks this charm up, the Creation-born's things are no longer quite their own. The raksha using this Charm must have Assumption of Creation's Belongings active, and have their Ring within the object they intend to 'claim'. With a pulse of Wyld Essence, a quick and simple binding of gossamer, and a bit of effort, a tiny wyld zone is built within the object, bound within gossamer to keep the energy from dissipating too quickly. Once this is done, the raksha may completely sink their being, even if they have an Assumption-formed body active, into the object with a moment of concentration and an unrolled shaping action. Stepping out is simply an act of will; if wished, they may come out whole, or with their Ring still within the object.

Within this micro-waypoint, the raksha does not regain Essence, but doesn't need a pennant, cyst or hearthstone to remain cohesive. Anyone attempting to detect Wyld taint must contest their roll against the raksha's, who uses Dodge + Essence, with a number of bonus dice equal to their Ring. So long as the object is undisturbed, the raksha may stay within it until the charm's effects run out. Finally, the raksha remains aware of what objects are still 'his', even though he cannot enter ones that are out of eyesight without additional Charms.

This is a work of Glamour; while 'permanent', the touch of cold iron or Charms and wards that foil Glamour instantly cancel the effect. If the raksha is within the object when this occurs, they are expelled; they are given a chance to call forth an Assumption Charm if they can, else they are expelled as a dematerialized, manifest spirit.

For future reference in other Charms within this tree, 'claimed' denotes that an object has an active Innermost Sanctuary effect on it.

Bountiful Invocation

Cost: 10 motes, 1 gossamer
Duration: Instant
Type: Supplemental
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Innermost Sanctuary

The raksha manifests in Creation one of the treasures of the Wyld. This Charm allows the raksha to invoke a possession from storage and fill in the blanks with Creation's Essence, mildly tainted with the form and materials of the object that's acting as the raksha's anchor for Assumption of Creation's Belongings. This may even call forth possessions that cannot enter Creation in most normal circumstances. This Charm has many uses, as the raksha themselves can be on the other side of Creation and still invoke this Charm through their Ring.

Wyld-Line Dance

Cost: 5 motes, 1 gossamer
Duration: Special
Type: Simple
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Innermost Sanctuary

With but a thought, the raksha can propel themselves to and fro along their network of claimed objects. The raksha's Ring, or the actual whole raksha, must be within a claimed object before this charm can be used. Once used, they may hop to another object, spending a scene in travel time. The raksha may opt to stay for a turn to scan about and then keep hopping, or may end their trip there, remaining within the object or exiting as they see fit. The raksha may make a number of 'hops' equal to their Essence before they must activate the Charm again.

Million-Places Exercise

Cost: None
Duration: Permanent
Type: Special
Minimum Heart: 3
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Innermost Sanctuary

The claiming of objects via Innermost Sanctuary can be augmented to leave behind a 'phantom' of the raksha's Wyld Essence, expanding their capabilities. This Charm grants the following ability.

Million Points of Self: The raksha may focus on all the objects they have claimed, using them as anchors for sense and speech at the same time. This requires intense focus and the expenditure of a temporary point of Willpower, but can be maintained for up to an hour afterwards, or until the raksha's concentration is broken. They may also use Charms and abilities that focus through claimed objects even if they or their Ring are not within that object at the time, paying a surcharge of 2 motes per Charm to do so.

Touch of the Wyld

Cost: 1 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of Creation's Belongings

The raksha can use the subtle taint of the Wyld to give objects with useful functions a bit of a boost. This charm gives the raksha the following ability. This ability affects normal actions only.

Wyld-Powered Device: For 1 mote, the raksha can reflexively grant a one-die Wyld bonus to the use of an object they currently have possessed via Assumption of Creation's Belongings. There needs not be a hard-and-fast definition as to how this energy assists the object's function. The raksha must also be aware of an assistable action about to occur in order to grant the bonus.

Wyld's Advancing Ways

Cost: 10 motes, 2 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Simple
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Touch of the Wyld

Leaving behind a slightly-structured web of Wyld Essence and gossamer-forged dream, the raksha empowers an object to grant its present holder unexpected power. Upon activating this Charm while within a suitable object, the raksha leaves behind a strong Wyld-taint that imparts effects built from up to 4 points of Mutations, although two points of Deficiencies or Debilities may be added to increase the available 'good' points to six. As soon as the object leaves the holder's person, the effects are lost until the tainted object is in their possession again.

This is a work of Glamour, and cannot affect beings with an Resistance + Essence greater than the Raksha's Strength. The Essence Channeler mutation is explicity barred from being added to an object.

Fae-Cursed Creation

Cost: 1 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of Creation's Belongings

The raksha can use the subtle taint of the Wyld to make objects behave poorly at their task, hindering the wielder. This charm gives the raksha the following ability. This ability affects normal actions only.

Wyld-Hindered Device: For 5 motes, the raksha can reflexively impose an environmental penalty equal to his Essence on a single action being performed with an object he currently possesses. There needs not be a hard-and-fast definition as to how this energy hinders the object's function. The raksha must also be aware of an assistable action about to occur in order to impose the penalty.

Maddening Manipulation

Cost: 10 motes, 4 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Fae-Cursed Creation

Imposing their will more on the object, they make it perform so poorly that the character simply cannot get anything meaningful done with it without extensive focus and talent.

The possessed weapon affected by this Charm instantly fails to fulfill its proper function if the user does not use a Charm or a stunt. If a stunt of Charm is used in conjunction with the item, than the difficulty to accomplish the intended task, be it making a cabinet or beheading an enemy, is increased by two.

This is a work of Glamour, and does not affect beings with a Wits + Essence greater than the possessing raksha's Willpower.

Covetous Aura

Cost: 3 motes, 1 gossamer
Duration: Instant
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of Creation's Belongings

With but a momentary pulse of tempting, addicting wyld Essence, the raksha draws the attention of all those nearby to the claimed object they possess or are manipulating. Weaker beings not only see it, but find themselves maddeningly driven to possess it.

Upon activation of this charm, all beings within 5 yards of the object are somehow drawn to notice it. Those whose Temperance + Essence do not exceed the raksha's Charisma must succeed in a difficulty 3 Temperance check; failure means that they must immediately do anything in their power to possess the object. This effect lasts for one scene, but those affected have lingering desire for the object well after the glamour dissipates.

War-Generating Mien

Cost: 20 motes, 4 gossamer
Duration: Instant
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 4
Prerequisites: Covetous Aura

A far-reaching, powerful pulse of raw addictive force weaves itself through the nearby flows of Essence, touching beings far and wide. Tales of the affected object are generated, and soon enough beings from all around come to desire it, stopping at nothing to claim the wyld-touched item.

This works in a manner similar to Covetous Aura, but covers an area equal to the raksha's [(Charisma + Essence) x 10] in miles. Stories, rumors and the like of the object are created within days, and the desirous effect strikes every being whose Temperance + Essence does not exceed the Raksha's Charisma; they must succeed in a difficulty 2 Temperance check, or are drawn into seeking the object. This effect lingers for a season, after which it decays into a mild need to possess the object.

Forgotten Toy Trick

Cost: 5 motes, 0 gossamer
Duration: Instant
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of Creation's Belongings

Like a toy long-since forgotten by its owner, the raksha makes a claimed object simply impossible for the weak of mind to notice. Twisting, just slightly, the orderly Essence of the object, the raksha makes it harder to track with the senses. The difficulty to locate the object is increased by the raksha's Essence. This effect lasts for a scene.

Missing In Plain Sight

Cost: 10 motes, 2 gossamer
Duration: Instant
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Forgotten Toy Trick

That which was once visible is now invisible; that which was found is now lost---so decrees the raksha who uses this charm on a claimed object. Once this charm is used, all beings whose Perception + Essence does not exceed the Raksha's Stealth simply cannot locate the affected object, even if it strikes them. In combat, a forgotten object inflicts a +2 difficulty to applicable dodges and parries. This effect lasts for a scene.

Even those who defeat this glamour have a hard time spotting the object when it is not actively being used against them, suffering a +2 difficulty to all applicable rolls. The combat penalty is reduced to a difficulty of +1 to all applicable defenses, as the object takes on a blurred, half-solid appearance.

Task Assistance

Assumption of Unquenched Desires

Cost: 10 motes, 2 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 1
Prerequisites: None

This charm allows a raksha to pass through the gateway Nirakara and exist as a shaped creature within Creation. The raksha focuses their will, desire and drive into the eventual accomplishment of one particular goal or task; as they pass into the shaped world, every aspect of their nature is fine-tuned towards that desire's completion. In a way, this is an oath the raksha makes to himself, and there is power in such declarations, so long as they are pursued.

Any non-combat dice action that is focused on the pursuit of that lofty goal gains an additional two dice, and all combat actions gain one; the normal dice-adding limitations apply, and all dice over that limit are lost. Also, the raksha may channel a single Virtue once during the present story for free (the point of Willpower needed to do so is still spent, but the number of remaining channels does not decrease), if the bonus dice given are used to draw closer to accomplishing the task at hand.

This task is chosen upon the charm's usage, and the raksha may not choose another goal without having completed (one way or another) the previous one set with this charm. Finally, a goal that is too broad may be rejected by the Storyteller.

This is an Assumption-type charm.

Distraction Removal Stratagem

Cost: 1 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of Unquenched Desires

While there is a certain kind of fun to be had in adversity, sometimes the best place for an obstacle to be is underfoot. The very flow of things around the raksha conspire to make anything or anyone who opposes them less effective.

This charm gives the raksha access to the following ability which affects normal actions rather than shaping actions.

Favorable Arrangement: For 3 motes, the raksha may impose an environmental penalty equal to their Essence to one being or obstacle that stands directly in the way of their set task. The raksha must decide how the state of things around them impedes the target of the penalty, such as a stalwart warrior stepping just so on a particularly slick spot on a marble floor, thus losing his balance and giving the raksha the upper hand.

Immersion and Ignorance

Cost: 1 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Special
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Assumption of Unquenched Desires

For some, the need to accomplish something overrides all else, and they will oftimes do some debatably ignorant things to accomplish their goals. The raksha who applies the twin doctrines of Immersion and Ignorance to their assumed form grow all the more skilled at executing their task, while losing focus on all the little things that get in the way... which is to say, everything else not involved with the task at hand.

When activating Assumption of Unquenched Desires, the raksha may opt to activate Immersion and Ignorance as well. In doing so, all bonuses applied to dice rolls are doubled, but the raksha also loses two dice from all other dice pools not involving the chosen task. Standard dice-adding limitations are ignored for the chosen task, and this penalty can explicitly lower the raksha's dice pool below their permanent Essence if Exalted Power Combat (or similar rules) happen to be in effect.

If this charm is made into a mutation, the raksha may only choose to turn it 'on' or 'off' at the beginning of each story.

Cause-Sharing Demeanor

Cost: 1 or 2 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Distraction Removal Stratagem, Immersion and Ignorance

Allies are usually better to have than enemies, especially those who understand and seek the same things that the raksha does. Thus, the clever Fair One can extend their goal-seeking capabilities to a single ally, bolstering the ally's devotion to their shared cause no matter the distance.

This charm gives the raksha access to the following ability which they may bestow on Creation-born entities. Other raksha are specifically barred from being affected by the ability.

Two Minds, One Path: For a number of motes equal to the target's (permanent Essence + 2), the raksha may share the dice bonus they gain from Assumption of Unquenched Desires if they spend one gossamer, and both the bonus and penalty that come with Immersion and Ignorance if two gossamer are spent. The raksha must have the aforementioned charms active to be able to share the bonuses, but so long as this condition is met the target can utilize said bonus anywhere in Creation, regardless of where the raksha may be. The motes spent remain committed as long as the Raksha wishes the bonus to be shared, and can be withdrawn at any time (along with the bonus) with but a thought.

Useful Tool Invocation

Cost: 10 motes, 1 gossamer
Duration: Instant
Type: Supplemental
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Distraction Removal Stratagem

The raksha manifests in Creation one of the treasures of the Wyld. This Charm allows the raksha to invoke a possession into Creation, filling in the gaps in its shape and Essence with the structured Essence involved in the raksha's usage of Assumption of Unquenched Desires. The object so summoned, if possible, applies a one-die Wyld bonus to actions that directly further the completion of the raksha's goal. A sword used to pry open a door barring the raksha from his target would grant the bonus, but using it to strike down those who just so happen to be watching and not actively working against the sword's owner does not.

Temptation

Assumption of Sins Unshackled

Cost: 10 motes, 2 gossamer
Duration: One story
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Essence: 1
Prerequisites: None

For the Raksha, Assumptions are about wrapping their (mostly) unshaped selves in a shell of hardened concepts and ideas, using that form to interact with the dangerous, enchanting Real World. While there are Assumptions for the Elements, Emotions and many other things, one Assumption in particular appeals to the more sinister of Raksha: that of sinful pleasures.

This Charm allows a raksha to pass through the gateway Nirakara and exist as a shaped creature within Creation. Their form can vary wildly, but no matter the form, they are built around the core of a single Sin -- something that could be considered 'immoral' and 'wrong' by a wide assortment of mortals. This sin must link to a Virtue in a manner similar to the examples below:

  • Cruelty is a Sin against Compassion, as only an unfeeling monster could treat another living being so callously.
  • Betrayal is a Sin against Conviction. Instead of holding fast to a cause, one would sacrifice everyone around them who does to buy themselves a bit more time.
  • Debauchery is a Sin against Temperance. It is one thing to enjoy wine, women and song. It is another to drown in them without a care for anything else.
  • Cowardice is a Sin against Valor. True cowardice is to have the strength to stand when it matters the most, but to run away for fear of injury, death or worse.
