By baptizing a fae with the water from his Pearl Flask, Qingu can “exalt” the child of the Wyld, granting her some vestigial powers of the Sea of Chaos. He has five such fae exalts, and each belongs to one caste (see Characters section above for details). Exalting a fae in such a manner only grants them the ability to use the charms in their caste, no more, no less. Their abilities and attributes, etc., remain the same. It is highly unlikely that anyone other than a fae could be exalted in such a manner. The Sea of Chaos’ water is laden with terrible chaotic energies that would irrevocably warp anyone but a fae, one who is the product of chaos itself. The water gives form and essence-shaping solidity to an inherently chaotic being; but to an inherently stable being of creation it would twist their body to the point of dissipating it into pure chaos.

That said, fae exalted by the Sea of Chaos do not technically use “charms.” The Sea isn’t even fully formed so the powers she grants are not comparable to exalted charms of Creation. The fae exalt’s powers function much more closely (but not exactly) like anima powers. However, I will call them charms for simplicity’s sake.

Chaotic Charms are divided by castes; fae exalted can only learn charms from their own cast. Qingu knows all the charms--he was not merely baptized with the water of the Sea of Chaos; he dived into her depths and nearly drowned in her power.

The five castes of the Entropic Exalted are: Breaking Wave, Swirling Surface, Subtle Undercurrent, Bottomless Depth and Lost Shore. They correspond more or less to the Dawn, Zenith, Night, Twilight and Eclipse cast, respectively, perhaps with a few minor changes.

Entropic Exalted don't really have animas; they all have Qingu's style of floaty hair that violently swirls around when he gets agitated or uses magic, and they all have large, bottomless black eyes that glow blue and green when agitated or using charms. Their caste is really noticeable by what charms they use, which usually reveal themselves through sounds and telekinetic sensations:

  • When a fae casts a Breaking Wave charm, an effect comparable to an anima manifests itself as a loud, crashing water sound and everyone around him feels the spray of invisible seawater.
  • Swirling Surface charms emit the noise from a whirlpool and everyone in the vicinity feels a downward pull on their legs.
  • Subtle Undercurrent charms sound like viscous bubbles and even though combat takes place on solid ground, people in the vicinity get the feeling that they are being pulled underwater or are floating.
  • Bottomless Depth charms drown out sound in the vicinity and everyone around the fae feels a slight pressure and a darkening of their peripheral vision.
  • Fae using Lost Shore charms emit a calm and soothing breeze; characters around them hear the sound of gentle waves lapping a beach.

A lot the entropic fae charms have sort of a telekinetic flavor to them, and many of them inflict some kind of disorienting, chaotic ailment. Please see ChaosAilments for details ... this is rather important.

Fae charms can be comboed (only Qingu can combo charms from other castes, of course, because all other fae exalted only know charms from one caste).

It has been suggested that Eclipse castes could learn chaos charms. This seems reasonable; the only caveat is that these fae exalted are literally alien beings--they come, so to speak, from another planet. So learning their charms should be more difficult than learning charms of beings from Creation. Mechanically speaking, the fae charms are very powerful--they are balanced for fae since fae specialize and can only learn one caste of charms, but for an Eclipse generalist they would be even more deadly. So I think an Eclipse should be required to spend a considerable amount of time in the Wyld and absorb a lot of its energies in the forms of mutations and poxes before he can learn any fae exalt charms. Alternatively he would have to use glamour (wyld essence) to somehow power these charms. (Thanks to King Benjamin for these suggestions)

Swirling Surface Caste Charms

Subtle Undercurrent Caste Charms

Bottomless Depth Caste Charms

Lost Shore Caste Charms

Personally, I think you need to be a little more generous in term of power if you want the charms to fit the backstory, currently they are weaker and more expensive that DB charms - Shining_Paladin (who otherwise likes Sea of Chaos very much)
