Official Rule
Grimcleaver: Spd +5, Acc +2, Dmg +8L, Def -1, Rate 4, Str **, Artifact **
MetalFatigue's version
Increase the speed modifier to +8 and the damage modifier to +10L (and decrease the damage modifier for a Reaver Daiklave to +8L). Also, allow it to be used against mounted opponents at no penalty (like the Great Axe, on which it's based).
Spd +8, Acc +2, Dmg +10L, Def -1, Rate 4, Str **, Artifact **
BrokenShade's Version
I don't think the problem is with the Grimcleaver. The Reaver Daiklave is simply out of scale with your average weapon, so my main fix is that the Reaver Daiklave requires a commitment of 8 motes. Here are the stats for my Grimcleaver though ...
Grimcleaver: Spd +5, Acc +2, Dmg +9L, Def 0, Rate 4, Str **, Artifact **
I do believe it is based on the concept of a battle axe, despite the fact that there is now no battle axe in Power Combat. Not that the base weapon seems to have anything to do with the effectiveness of an artifact, as far as I can see! ^_^ Strangely enough, creating a "Great Grimcleaver" along the lines of Daiklave to Grand Daiklave works fairly well ...
Great Grimcleaver: Spd +8, Acc +1, Dmg +14L, Def -3, Rate 3, Str ***, Artifact ***, Commit 8
I also see that Blaque mentioned the thrown axe below. I've seen the name "Winged Edge" used for the artifact hatchet (which can be thrown), and my stats for that are
Winged Edge hand-to-hand: Spd +5, Acc +1, Dmg +6L, Def -1, Rate 3, Str ** Dex **, Artifact **, Commit 3
Winged Edge thrown: Acc +2, Dmg +7L, Rate 2, Range 15 (returning, as I believe all artifact thrown weapons are)
Then again I've done quite a hatchet job on thrown thrown weapons. Pun intended. ^_^
Blaque's Version
Something about Power Combat axes is that they are the same thing as a hatchet (like chakram and shuriken, or regular and throwing knives). As such, I think maybe making a Thrown set of stats for grimcleavers, along with auto-returning, would make them rather nifty for Artifact oo, since you get decent attack stats, and soemthing to throw at someone's skull like a friggin' tomahok over a chakram or sling.
No stats ATM, but the idea I think should be thrown out.
Stuff.

As I pointed out to Toram the other night, the stats for the Reaver Daiklave are identical or superior to the Grimcleaver in every possible respect. There is no reason why anyone would fight with a grimcleaver. So, let's create one. --MF
It was my understanding when crunching numbers that the Grimcleaver was based on the battle axe not the great axe - Malikai
In the Exalted Power Combat weapon stats list, there is no such thing as a battle axe. It goes straight from hatchet (small, one-handed thrown weapon) to great axe. --MF
Okay, I just revised my proposal by looking at the Power Combat weapon stats, subtracting the Chopping Sword from its magical cousin the Reaver Daiklave, and adding the difference between them to the Great Axe to make the Grimcleaver. --MF
- I think the Reaver Daiklave may be based on the Straight Sword. Obviously and sadly, there is no definitive answer! ^_^ -- BrokenShade
- Daiklave = Straight, Reaver = Chopping, Reaper = Slashing, Grand = Great - Malikai
Ah, I don't have the PG yet I was still remembering what they said in the core book artifact disscussions. I hadn't even considered that they'd take out a weapon completely. - Malikai
I love axes. I love swords too, but I hate to see axes as a cheaper, crappier alternative to a sword. Personally, I'm inflating the stats of axes to around-about where the swords are, and the same goes for the grimcleaver. - Morpheus
