Lunar Tattoo Artifacts
The fact of the matter is, when you live on the edge of creation, and every day you just might starve to death, you can't afford to carry around eight-foot-long axes.
The No-Moons of the Lunars long ago realized this, and have devised Tattoo-cutting magic because of it. Even the most amateurish No-Moon knows of the Caste-fixing method and Tattoo-cutting techniques. Slightly more advanced is greater tattoos, which contain a certain amount of magic.
Each Tattoo keeps up a permanent effect - it can not be turned on or off. The only way to turn a tattoo 'off' is to free the committed essence - however, that destroys the artifact, and requires the Tattoo to be recreated by a No-Moon (since the tattoo still exists, and it is the underlying enchantment that must be recreated, this only takes one week and two suxx per level of the artifact).
Tattoo artifacts are almost universally level 1- 2. While level 3+ tattoos exist, they are rarer than the rank 5+ Lunars that wear them.
Luna's Aegis
Level 2 Tatifact (you like that name, you know you do)
A mixture of moonsilver and powdered crystals is tattooed into the flesh of the recipient, usually in a design of dragon's wings covering his shoulders, scales, or something along that theme. So long as 2 motes remain committed to this tattoo, the wearer recieves a bonus soak of 4L/4B
Preserving The Earthly Masquerade
Level 2 Tatifact
This tattoo is usually done somewhere between the shoulder blades of the recipient, symbolizing the element of Dragon-Blooded he wishes to masquerade as. So long as five motes remain committed to this, the Lunar's Caste mark/Anima banner manifest as that of the appropriate lineage of Dragon-Blooded, as opposed to his own Lunar anima.
Tattoo of the Battery
Level Varies
Tattoos of the Battery are, essentially, augmented Essence pools. The level of essence stored varies with the level of the battery:
Level 1 - 5 Essence (counts as peripheral for expenditures)
Level 2 - 5 Essence (counts as personal.)
Level 3 - 5 Essence (personal) and 5 Essence (peripheral)
Level 4 - 5 Essence (personal) and 10 essence (peripheral)
Level 5 - 10 Essence (personal) and 20 Essence (peripheral)
These are most often used to provide committed essence for other tattoos. However, they can be bought simply to augment the recipient's accessible Essence. In that case, any Essence expended from the pool is lost until a No-Moon restores the pool; this pool does not naturally regenerate, and it can not be refilled by the recipient unless the recipient is, himself, a No -Moon.
Tattoo of Shielding
Level 1 Tatifact
This tattoo requires 1 committed mote, and 1 mote must be spent upon activation. Activation is a reflexive action, and may be used in the same turn as a charm without the need for a Combo. When activated, the tattoo (usually placed on the forearm) sprouts as a moonsilver target shield on the weilder's arm. Treat this as a normal moonsilver target shield for all purposes. Retracting the shield costs an additional mote of essence.
Tattoo of Invulnerability
Level 4 Tatifact
This tattoo is a natural evolution of the Lunar's metamorphosing abilities and previous defensive tattoos. Tattood all over the body (usually as large dragon scales or turtle-shell pattern), this requires the investment of 15 motes of essence. The recipient has a permanent boon of 12L/12B soak. This is stackable with the tattoo of Luna's Aegis.
Tattoo of Marital Congeniality
Level 2 Tatifact
This tattoo is usually a carefully interwoven trio of lines that wind about the face of the Lunar. While three motes remain committed to this tattoo, any Lunar interacting with a Solar has a 2 die bonus to looking innocent and blameless - "Me? WhyMiedvied/I'd/ never cheat on you with the servant girl." - and a four die bonus to Dodges and Parries from attacks levelled by Solars.
Comments:
I like these, but I think the DB-masquerading one should be a level higher... And also, I'd love to know - are they automatically cloaked by the tattoo-hiding charm?
-- Darloth
- I was actually going to suggest the opposite, since the artifact is essentially a one-shot item with indefinite effect, and this is something you likely wouldn't want to always keep up for a variety of reasons. -szilard
I'm a fan... but don't these violate the rule that Lunars can not have their shapes altered by anything outside their own magic?
-Seraph
- I presume that the idea is that the tattoo magic piggybacks on the form-fixing tattoo technology, taking advantage of it rather than circumventing it. - willows
O'm a bit confuused about the battery tats. How many motes does it take to commit them - or are the numbers listed the net gain in Essence? -szilard
