Introduction
This is an early, and somewhat defensive style. It was designed to fight spirits and to act as an initiation into higher forms of martial arts. It has been superseded by specialized initations, but it counts as one for the purposes of learning Celestial Martial Arts. This style does not focus on a particular fighting style, so much as try to teach the Martial Artists to fight effectivly at all.
Weapons & Armour
This style is not compatible with distracting influences, such as weapons or armor.
The Charms
Running Rhizome Style
Cost:1 mote per yard Duration:Instant Type:Reflexive Min. Ability:3 Min Essence:2 Prereqs:none
Movement is important both in the flow of Essence and in the flow of battle. Thus is the first thing the martial artist learns. When this charm is invoked, the martial artist moves one yard per mote spend, sliding along the ground like the roots of the lotus. Once this charm is invoked, it may not be invoked again that turn until the martial artist has spent as many yards of her natural movement as she last got from this charm.
Many Rooted Strike
Cost:3 motes per difficulty reduction Duration:Instant Type:Supplemental Min. Ability:3 Min Essence:2 Prereqs:Running Rhizome Style
The most important thing in a fight is make contact with your opponent, all else is secondary to this goal. Thus, she launches a flurry of attacks, probing her opponents defences and hoping one makes contact. The fact that the strike that does make contact will be weak is of no import. Each 3 motes spent on this charm reduce the difficulty of the attack by 1,to a minimum of 1. The martial artist may not reduce the difficulty by more than her Essence. An attack enhanced by this charm will only do it's base damage, extra successes do not help.
Semi-Doubled Attack
Cost:3 motes Duration:Instant Type:Supplemental Min. Ability:3 Min Essence:2 Prereqs:Many Rooted Strike
After hitting ones opponent, hurting them is the next most important concern. The martial artist adds a twist of essence to her attack, ensuring a little extra damage. The martial artist rolls 1 more damage die than they otherwise would, provided any damage is rolled at all.
Many Rooted Defence Method
Cost: 4 motes Duration:Instant Type:Reflexive Min. Ability:3 Min Essence:2 Prereqs:Running Rhizome Style
Along with the ability to attack, defence is the next most important ability. With this, the martial artist concentrates on being able to defend herself. This charm reduces split action penalties by Martial Artists Martial Arts for the rest of the turn, and allows the Martial Artist to split her action before here iniative. This charm may only be invoked once per turn.
