This is a short synopsis of the events of The Princess Bride. When there are two versions of events, I have used the movie version, primarily because the movie has less detail than the book. This synopsis lacks all depth and emotion. For that stuff go to the source material.
Synopsis
ThePrincessBride/Buttercup is a beautiful farmer's daughter. ThePrincessBride/Westley is the hired hand. They fall madly in love. ThePrincessBride/Westley goes off to seek his fortune. He gets killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts. ThePrincessBride/Buttercup is heartbroken. 4 years pass. PrinceThePrincessBride/Humperdink tells her to marry him. ThePrincessBride/Buttercup consents. ThePrincessBride/Buttercup is kidnapped by three men,ThePrincessBride/Vizzini,ThePrincessBride/Inigo, andThePrincessBride/Fezzik. They travel to the neighboring country ofThePrincessBride/Gilder, over waters full ofThePrincessBride/ShriekingEels and up theThePrincessBride/CliffsOfInsanity, all the while pursued by a fishing boat being operated by theThePrincessBride/ManInBlack. TheThePrincessBride/ManInBlack defeatsThePrincessBride/Inigo in a duel, discovering thatThePrincessBride/Inigo is hunting the six fingered man who killedThePrincessBride/Inigo's father. TheThePrincessBride/ManInBlack then defeatsThePrincessBride/Fezzik in a wrestling contest. After defeating and killingThePrincessBride/Vizzini in a contest of wits, theThePrincessBride/ManInBlack takesThePrincessBride/Buttercup. There is conversation and it is revealed that theThePrincessBride/ManInBlack isThePrincessBride/Westley. They run away from PrinceThePrincessBride/Humperdink into theThePrincessBride/FireSwamp. After almost getting killed several times in theThePrincessBride/FireSwamp, PrinceThePrincessBride/Humperdink capturesThePrincessBride/Buttercup andThePrincessBride/Westley. ThePrincessBride/Westley is taken to theThePrincessBride/PitOfDispair where he realizes that CountThePrincessBride/Rugen is the six fingered man. ThePrincessBride/Buttercup is going to marry PrinceThePrincessBride/Humperdink. ThePrincessBride/Westley is almost killed by PrinceThePrincessBride/Humperdink. ThePrincessBride/Inigo andThePrincessBride/Fezzik saveThePrincessBride/Westley, via MiracleThePrincessBride/Max's MiraclePill, so that he can help them get into the castle so thatThePrincessBride/Inigo can get revenge. The party gets into the castle, stops the wedding, savesThePrincessBride/Buttercup, kills CountThePrincessBride/Rugen, and rides off into the sunset. ThePrincessBride/Westley andThePrincessBride/Buttercup kiss.
If you haven't ever seen the movie or read the book and the above made sense to you, thou art a better person than I. Seriously though, the book and movie are amazing.
