The Laughing Watersprite Bathhouse

by Jiba

"Don't mind the smell, darling. It will make your skin as soft as silk. Oh, gods, keep still!"
- Axagha Ketsun, dealing with a customer
"Good work, little one. Now, let's do, say, ten laps. And don't let the sharks get you! Hahaha!"
- Laggu Woyesi, training a young swimmer

The Laughing Watersprite Bathhouse is situated on the northern side of the Dancing Plaza and has the reputation of offering a wide spectrum of different options of washing, bathing and swimming. The cost of these options vary; there are simple pools of fresh water, which is pumped from the School Of The Flow, to clean for poorer customers, but also expensive ethereal baths for wealthier visitors. Whether a customer wants to clean his body from all filthiness, to relax by taking a hot, perfumed bath or to do laps, he will agree, that the Laughing Watersprite Bathhouse is the perfect place to engage in any of the three, although this is only the surface of the fine services the bathhouse features.

The bathhouse cuts into various sectors. The centre section is named the Fane of Entrace. Here stands the reception, where the customers enroll, take of their clothes in the changing cubicles and give their personal holdings in storage. This is carried out by disciplined slaves, who also clean the various parts of the building. The Fane of Entrace is bedecked by the stature of a laughing Water Elemental pouring warm water on every customer entering the actual swimming and bathing rooms, although there is no slave to opperate it. The walls are ornated with various mosaics, made at the Rednail's Kiln, showing different forms of cleaning and washing from all over creation.

The so-called Fane of Aid includes several saunas, whirlpools and vapor-baths, that are infused with fragrant herbs and essential oils, while the customers couch on comfortable settees, which are providing an even more relaxing atmosphere. The Watersprite Bathhouse also offers special therapeutic baths and massages, prepared by the famous deaf-mute slave-massager Eovleo, who always performs his tasks with a high amount of care and passion. He always seems to know, what his patients prefer or where they feel ache or tension and have to be medicated without telling him before. This has gained him the reputation of a miracle healer.

Another special services profferred are mud-baths or other beauty care attendances. Perfumed pools and flavoured oils and soaps as well as some more exotic forms of body cleaning for men and women – for example the use of a stinking tincture referred to as Bleeding Phoenix, which is in fact mospid-odure – or simple pools of cleaning water can be found in the so-called at Fane of Elegancy. This sector is overseen by Axagha Ketsun, a beautiful, but somewhat demanding woman, who is an old schoolbudy of the bathhouse’s manager. She is always in search of new methods and therapies to increase the beauty of her customers – and her own.

The third sector is the Fane of Fortitude contains various swimming pools, which are used for physical training or sports. These pools are filled with clear and in one case with salty water. This sector also includes a diving platform and a custom-build pool, that emulated waves and whirls and is propelled by potent slaves handling coal-driven air-pumps beneath the surface. The Fane of Fortitude also quotes free swimming courses teached by Laggu Woyesi, an athletic, but cordial person, who is also pool attendant. He has worked in the bathouse since it’s construction and although he is now 62 years old, he is still fit and vigorous.

The bathhouse was constructed and managed by Chen Gyatsho, a terribly talented buisness-man, who likes to take a bath himself during the regular opening times. He has always a smile on his face but unfortunately, he has became seriously ill. His son, Nang has taken on much of the responsibilities of his father, but he lacks the feeling for the fine arts actually offered the in Laughing Watersprite Bathhouse. He is more a much more pragmatical person than the former manager.

Rumours

  • Some slaves claim they have witnessed the Laughing Watersprite stature pouring water over Nang, as he tried to enter the bathrooms, even when he was dressed. When they investigated the water, they found out, that it was cold as ice. Noone has any idea what could be the meaning of this.
  • There are rumors, that Eovleo is actually not deaf-mute – it’s that he does not want to talk or that he has been forbidden to do so. Whatever the reason of his silent nature is, it must have something to do with his past and with the bathhouse.

Secret

  • Laggu Woyesi was once called Braver of the Verdant Coral and was a feared riverpirate roaming the River Providence. When his ship was on the way to his hideout after plundering a galley from Lookshy and looting 2 talents of the finest jade, a terrible storm drove them into a fog bank. His ship was lost for three days, than reappearing and docking in Nexus. Laggu paid his crew, sold his ship and gave the redundant jade away to homeless children on the streets of Nighthammer. Then he applied for a job at the Laughing Watersprite Bathhouse and now teaches people how to swim. Every attempt of Nang to convince Laggu to demand money for the service, has ended in the old man getting very angry. Laggu now has two problems. The first is Nang, who could decide to release Laggu from his position. The second are agents from Lookshy searching for the Braver of the Verdant Coral.
