Raneet, the Sacrifice for Life, Progeny of the Weaver of Voices

The Raneet are a bizarre species even in the demon realm, and have never been common; after all, when one's purpose involves a degree of self-destruction, it is hard to be populous. They are wombs walking the brass pathways of the demon city, and they are the sires of countless greater creatures. The demon is a bizarre looking one, appearing not horrifying or beautiful, but simply disturbing and confusing. It looks essentially like a glass sphere two feet wide filled with water, covered in tarnished brass quills about six inches long. Moving strangely by rolling along the quills, it tears up the ground in its passage, carving chunks out of stone and shredding anything softer. It makes a hideous shrieking noise of grinding metal and scraping like a chalkboard at every move. Stealth is impossible for these creatures when they are material. However, when they are not moving, their voice comes clear as a bell from no apparent source; it is the whole crystal globe of the creature, vibrating to create beautiful tones.

The Raneet's sole goal in life is to create something new and incredible out of living things. It will bargain with powerful beings for a drop of their blood, or it will simply prick it with one of its spines and flee. Given the blood, ideally, or other piece of flesh or essence if the being does not possess blood, of two beings, it will make a distorted hybrid of the two. If it is successful, then a red dot will appear floating in the center of the Raneet's globe; within hours, veins will start to criss cross its interior and their glass bodies start to soften to a transparent but incredibly tough sac. Within a day, the dot will grow to a visible embryo. This embryo will continue to grow for three months until it is an infant, at which time the Raneet will break open with the loving gasp of a purpose fulfilled, and the creature is born. If there is nothing there to care for it, it may soon die; especially if born in the harsh realms of the Yozi. Raneet will ignore any newborn child except to potentially steal a bit of its blood.

The raneet themselves can only reproduce by forcing themselves on another of their kind and piercing them with one of their needles; if they do so, then two Raneet are born at its death. No Raneet will willingly bear the young of its own species, as their purpose is then lost; they are just creating something old. However, they are more than willing to impregnate their siblings in that manner, and cannot prevent their child from being carried to term once impregnated this way. Every Raneet wants to perpetuate the species, they just don't want to do it themselves. All demons know of the task of the Raneet, and only the most malicious and jealous would ever try to harm one.

Other notes: Creating a child is a difficulty 1 intelligence + craft (flesh) roll to mix two beings of the same rough type (demons of the same yozi, mammals, the dead), difficulty 3 to mix similar beings (demons, animals, gods, fae) and difficulty 5 to mix two completely unrelated creatures. Gestation takes three months and the Raneet invariably dies at the end. The Raneet cannot create second or third circle demons unless they are building the componant soul of a greater being with its permission. They normally build either first circle demons or nameless abominations.
The Raneet have some powers of blessing, which they have been known to use to bargain with powerful beings for a scrap of their bodies; however, this is not without drawbacks. While a raneet's tiny gift of benefaction is in place, the being it is cast on also suffers a one dot version of the unlucky flaw. The raneet are unaware of this. The Raneet's Instill Obedience charm only allows it to cause beings to freely give of themselves to create young, and its landscape travel lets it move quickly through all of Malfeas.
