The sidereals are, of course, more than reliant on the pattern spiders' good will for any of their fantastic astrologies. The sidereal must learn how to phrase his words in such a way that they appeal to those strict, orderly minds; and the spiders are not opposed to mechanical aids. The ideal quill was made by one aspiring young sidereal many years ago who had the audacity to ask Asna Firstborn for one set of scopulae, a great favour that she granted him, although what she demanded in return has been lost to time. That portion of her was woven into starmetal to produce a feather quill of perfect weight and proportion. When used for any calligraphy - including the drafting of a petition to the pattern spiders, the beauty of the pen's clean, angular strokes add two successes. In addition, pattern spiders respond well to petitions as performed by one who clearly has the support of their forebear; they are gladly requisitioned to run triggers and there is no additional cost to use an intelligent trigger in paradox.
