Taichara/FunkyPlaces
I like wierd places in Creation; hell, I like wierd places in general. ;)
So It's not much of a surprise to me that I have a fascination with the idea of manses, demesnes and other nifty sites scattered like the random brightly-colored bits of Creation's countryside that they are ...
Here are a few interesting places (I hope!) More to come. :)
Glade of a Million Scarlet Wings (Level Two Abyssal Demesne)
This small expanse of broken meadow, tucked away in the Eastern forests, is flooded with flowers of every hue and description: roses, lilies, iris, violets, hyacinths, orchids - hundreds if not thousands of varieties. A few patches of fine grass, perfectly suited for relaxing upon, are scattered here and there, and silver-sanded paths thread through the glade.
Scattered among the flowers are slender, pale green willows and snow-white cherries, primarily lining the small streams that wind lazily through the gardens.
Once a Wood-aspected Demesne, it has since been slowly corrupted by Abyssal energies in a most insidious manner. Within an hour of any non-Underworld aspected, living creature having entered the Demesne's borders, hundreds of tiny butterflies -- their wings red as blood -- can be seen fluttering about the greenery. Any such creature remaining within the Demesne when night falls will be battened onto by swarms of these tiny creatures, the blood and Essence drained from their bodies. Actually attuning to the Demesne brings on this attack within moments of the attunement.
The corpses of the victims serve as excellent fodder for the gardens. The cherries collect the skulls of these amongst their roots.
Stonewave (Level One Conflicted Demesne -- Earth / Water)
This is a vast subterranean chamber, accessible via a delicate widening passageway through a rough escarpment. Irregularly shaped, at one end of the cavern is found a cliff-like ledge and broad ivory-sanded beach, while the remainer contains a vast, subterranean lake of crystal-clear water. Through this water transparent, sinuous shapes can sometimes be seen gliding past from the corner of one's eye.
The rippling ceiling is more than high enough to resemble the ribbed arches of a cathedral; slender pillars of black alabaster reach from ceiling to the floor beneath the water, and around a few of these, small 'islands' of the stone have formed at the water's surface.
At the far end of the beach, a waterfall cascades into a series of crystal troughs and 'cups' before falling into the lake in showers of kaliedoscopic droplets.
Crystal-clusters scattered through the chamber radiate a strange, dusky kind of glow.
Rubedo (Level Three Raksha Freehold)
Deep in the southern Middlemarches, the firey seas become an effervescent, iridescent "ocean" of liquid amber, a brilliant rich golden hue. These amber waves crash against the cliffsides of paired islands of crystal, the deepest ruby imaginable; their scarlet ridges soar towards the rose-colred sky to ultimately twist into delicately arching spires of ruby and garnet, glowing like coals.
And where the great waves crash, the pearl-gold foam collects and froths, leaving trails and rimes of amber to grow like shimmering coral on the sharp scarlet facets. Creatures of serpentine tails and the paws and jaws of great felines, ivory and gold, cut through the waves in search of prey at their master's bidding; as of late, they have been deceptively docile.
Suspended weightless between these two isles hangs the whirling, rotating once-fortress of the self-named Heart of the Carbuncle , all needle-thin towers and scalloped crests; a thorny, dangerous fruit to try to pluck, indeed ..
Cysts produced from the Rubedo freehold often resemble soft, jellylike lenses of pale amber, with a gleaming blood-red core.
