History & Personality -

Kanna was Exalted at a particularly young age--13 or 14--and has not grown up much since. Till then, she lived as a dumb girl living an idyllic if limited life in an eastern village far detached from the cities and their people. When the Second Breath took hold of her, she was surprised. It must have been a fluke in fate, as she (yet) lacked any warrior-like or even simply heroic qualities a Solar Shard seeks in mortal hosts. She neither was in a situation where her Exalted powers in need nor possessed determinations that called for divine authorities. Perhaps her Exaltation was due not for an achievement in her short life, but for something that was to come. She certainly believes so now, but she'll have to see. A local spirit, once a powerful seneschal to Kanna's previous incarnation but now a mere god of leaves and grass, discovered Kanna aimless, remaining a simple idol of her birthplace. Since then, it has so far provided her with advice, training and warnings, leading her to discover her old sword, the River-cutting Blade, and reclaim her manse. Ultimately it plans to use Kanna's restored power to increase its own authority as well. Assured by her naivete, the spirit has so far been able to order the little Lawgiver around without much protest, and for this reason Kanna is traveling around Creation.

Kanna is naive. Even though she has voluntarily thrown herself into situations where she had to fight against the darker things of Creation, she is still filled with a sense of wonder. She believes that everything in Creation were created to be inherently good, but foreign influences, like the Fair Folk and demons, corrupt them and lead them to do evil. For the same reason, she is utterly convinced that this leaf spirit--who has not even bothered to tell her its name yet (fearing it would remind her of something)--is making her do its chores for her own good. Kanna is also curious and eager to learn, be it simple knowledge, ways of life or just the names of people next to her. Many find the gap between her friendly demeanor and ferocity in combat rather disconcerting (but that's because she only fights things from outside Creation. With people and beings natural to Creation, she would rather talk.) Ultimately, Kanna would like to find her own place in the world. She is aware that what she is is something important and that there must be a reason she was chosen by the Unconquered Sun. It's just that she hasn't really found out why yet... and she hopes that would soon change.

Possessions -

The River-cutting Blade is an Orichalcum sword kept in a wood and leather scabbard that used to belong to Kanna during the First Age. It is of "common" Reaper Daiklave design, emphasizing speed rather than force. Though it's lacking in damage, it's got low Speed and high Accuracy. Orichalcum Hearthstone Bracers contribute to Kanna's dodging ability and attacking strength, which are generally nice to have. The Windhands Gemstone inserted in the bracers allow Kanna to dodge ranged attacks with full DV. Should help her dash across the deck with her Daiklave in hand. Also, as a secondary weapon, she is wearing sturdy fighting boots, in case she can't use her hands.

Playing tips -

Stunt. Your character was chosen by the most powerful god in Creation for her potential as a great warrior. She can still do a lot of cool shit even if she may not possess the Charms or other tricks that allow her to do so. The setting is a ship with a lot of props that you can play with. You can vault over a railing and cleave through your enemy as you land. You could bounce off a sail to evade blows and knock people over (or through) the deck. Creation runs on awesome. As a Solar god-king it is your duty to supply Creation with awesome and keep it running.

As an archetypal Dawn, Kanna is designed to be the main combatant of the group. She doesn't much possess her own distinctive style yet, though. In combat, she will rely on her skills with the sword for offense and defense. Her high Melee and Reaper Daiklave's Accuracy give her high attack pool, which can go up to as high as 21 with First Melee Excellency. However, with her puny Essence pool of 35, doing that would be rather costly. I'd rather advise splitting her attack pool and supplementing the flurry with Hungry Tiger Technique. As for defense, Kanna has two options. One is depending on her Melee, using Dipping Swallow Defense if you believe her DV is wearing down due to onslaught. Another is to use more passive defensive Charms like Durability of Oak Meditation or Iron Skin Concentration. Though they are more costly than Dipping Swallow Defense, they have a very good chance of flat out ignoring damage even when attacks do connect. With 6 extra health levels from Ox-Body Technique, they should serve you well. And if all else fails (against unblockable or unsoakable attacks, perhaps), Kanna does have Second Dodge Excellency, with which she can increase her Dodge DV by 1 per 2 motes.

Since the game will take place on a sailing ship, it would be sensible for the character to be able to maintain balance. Graceful Crane Stance is a scene-long Charm that allows Kanna to automatically succeed any Athletics roll related to keeping balance, and it also allows her to stand on extremely narrow surfaces (such as railings, ropes and sail edges) as if they were wide and stable platforms.

Thanks for the compliment. :d I've been playing Exalted for 6 years now, though I didn't really get to play that often. I tried to get as basic as I could manage with Fei, hopefully that worked. - sz
