Instantaneous Attunement Practice

Cost: 5 motes
Type: Simple
Duration: Instant
Minimum Occult: 3
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: None

Normally, powerful artifacts take some time to attune to; this delay can be inconvenient or even dangerous to an Exalt in a hurry. The Exalt with Instantaneous Attunement Practice has developed sufficient understanding of the flows of Essence to bypass this difficulty, attuning to any artifact with a moment's concentration.

The Exalt touches the artifact to which he wishes to attune for a full turn. At the end of the turn, he may pay the usual attunement cost to instantly become attuned with the artifact. If he does not or cannot pay the attunement cost, the Charm has no effect. Essence spent in attuning is committed, but the essence used to power the Charm returns normally.

Instantaneous Attunement Practice may be used to fully attune to items of the wrong material with all the usual risks and penalties involved, but the difficulty of the Wits+Lore roll increases by 1.

Mastery of Wonders Method

Cost: 8 motes
Type: Reflexive
Duration: Instant
Minimum Occult: 4
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Instantaneous Attunement Practice

The Exalt can adapt to any artifact without missing a beat, attuning with neither effort nor thought. Brilliant streamers of golden light arc between the artifact and him, binding them instantly.

The Exalt touches the artifact to which he wishes to attune for an instant and pays its usual attunement cost. He attunes immediately, and may use the artifact on the same turn. Essence spent in attuning is committed, but the essence used to power the Charm returns normally.

Mastery of Wonders Method may not be used to fully attune to artifacts of the wrong material. However, it may still be used to partially attune to them without benefits.

Five-Metal Savant Style

Cost: 3 motes
Type: Simple
Duration: Until released
Minimum Occult: 3
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisites: Instantaneous Attunement Practice

The Exalt who has mastered the Five-Metal Savant Style understands the structural similarities between the Five Magical Materials, and is as comfortable with any of them as with orichalcum: he can easily shape his Essence to resonate with any artifact.

The Exalt must spend the normal amount of time and effort to attune to the artifact. However, he may choose to fully attune to artifacts of the wrong material without committing double the Essence, and without making a Wits+Lore roll. He must still commit the Essence normally required to attune to the artifact.

The Essence spent to power the Five-Metal Savant Style is committed as long as the Exalt is attuned to the artifact. If the Exalt ends the Charm, the artifact immediately deattunes, and if the artifact deattunes for any other reason, the Charm ends.

Majestic Artifact Body

Cost: None
Type: Special
Duration: Permanent
Minimum Occult: 5
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisites: Mastery of Artifacts Method, Five-Metal Savant Style

With the Majestic Artifact Body, the Exalt surpasses the need for artifacts. He may sculpt his own Essence to accept a Hearthstone, receiving its full benefits as if it were set in an artifact to which he was attuned. When the Exalt learns this Charm, a glittering golden circle appears on his body, serving as a Hearthstone setting. He may choose to place this circle on his forehead, over his heart, or on the back of either hand. As a dice action, he may affix a Hearthstone to this spot, embedding it firmly in his own body, or remove a Hearthstone previously placed in this fashion.

The location chosen for the Hearthstone mark is selected when the Charm is learned and cannot be changed. However, an Exalt may learn this Charm up to four times, selecting a different location for each.

Hearthstones fused to flesh by the Majestic Artifact Body are held fast and cannot be pried out. Removing them surgically is a difficulty 3 Dexterity+Medicine roll, and inflicts at least two levels of lethal damage if successful. The setting grows back when the wounds heal.
