Ranged Combat

Firing at 1-2 range increments: -2 dice\\ Firing at 2-3 range increments: -4 dice

Target wearing a shield:

  • Target Shield: -1 success
  • Tower Shield: -2 successes

Target has cover:

  • 25%: -1 success
  • 50%: -2 successes
  • 75%: -3 successes
  • 90%: -4 successes

Visibility:

  • Target is murkey: -1 success
  • Cannot see target: -2 successes

Melee Combat

Target wearing a shield (any sort): -1 success

Target has cover:

  • 25%-75%: -1 success
  • 90%: -2 successes

Do bashing damage with a lethal melee weapon: -1 success

Wielding a weapon in the off-hand: -1 die

Attacker is prone: -2 dice

Mounted combat:

  • Attacker is mounted: Combat skills contribute no more than the attacker's Ride score
  • Attacker is on a howdah: -2 dice if attacker has no dots of Ride
  • Defender is mounted, attacker on foot: -2 dice unless attacker possesses a spear or polearm

Height modifiers:

  • Combatant is lower on steps: -1 die to attack and defense pools
  • Combatant is on defensible steps: -2 dice to attack and defense pools when going the wrong way
  • Combatant is on a gentle slope: -1 die to attack and defense pools
  • Combatant is on a steep slope: -2 dice to attack and defense pools. Not slipping each turn requires a Dexterity + Athletics action. Being struck requires a reflexive Wits + Athletics check (difficulty equal to 1/5 the raw damage) not to slip.
  • Combatant is on slope too steep to climb without hands: -3 dice to attack and defense pools. Athletics checks are as for a steep slope.
  • Combatant is scaling a ladder: -3 dice to attack and defense pools.
  • Thorny or loose terrain: -1 additional die

Water/Mud:

  • Up to knees: -1 die
  • Up to waist: -2 dice
  • Above waist: only wrestling (and ranged combat) is possible

Miscellaneous Combat Modifiers

Defender is attacked from behind
No benefit from shield and the defender's dodge and parry pools are 0 dice(although reflexive charms work normally)
Character is stunned
-2 penalty to all dice pools for (6 - Stamina) turns.
Character was tackled since last action (whether knocked down or not)
-2 penalty to all dice pools this turn.
