Rules I Like

  • A character can focus his combat style more on strength than on dexterity. So he can roll strength+ability for attacks or defense. He uses not his speed but brute strength to get an advantage in combat. If the player choses to use strength+ability for offensive actions he do not get the extra successes on the damage (he has not hit very good, he was relying on his strength). It is much more difficulty to defend one-self relying on strength than on dexterity and so the difficulty for all parries based on strength is +2.

I like this rule for use with large monsters (Tyrant Lizards, etc.) so that they can actually threaten a starting character.

Rules I use

  • Everyone uses the rule of 10

Somewhat minor, but I don't find it necessary to remember a special rule with the sole effect of making someone who already sucks enough to called an "extra" even worse. (Especially when all that determines if an NPC is an extra is how important the ST thinks he is)

Here's where you tell me how wrong I am, etc.

Asheira's house rule seems a little bulky. The losing extra successes part, mainly, which seems a little odd anyways. How about just a flat +2 or +3 diff. modifier for either attacking or defending with Strength? Or allowing characters to attack with Strength, but not defend? _Jabberwocky

I like the losing extra successes part because it keeps the STR 20+ monsters from being completely overpowering (and it's less bulky than always subtracting 2-3 succ.). Not allowing them to defend would be fine, I just wanted them to be able to actually hit once in a while. - Myrlan
Yeah, I'd get rid of the defendign with Strength bit. That was the only part that seemed problematic to me. - szilard
