The Pearl Children

Version by FourWillowsWeeping:
Whenever Mellamy steals a vice, one of her clamshells opens, and one of the Pearl Children is born. Like tiny nacre statues, they bear a strong resemblance to dreamflies, but their wings billow through the air like a fish's fins, and their faces have strange and frightening looks of fascination and addiction. The Pearl Children live to spread the vice that they embody; each seeks out a strong-willed man and weakens him by becoming a part of him. One can recognize a man being manipulated by one of these by the pearly colour of his eyes.

Version by Mockery:
The Pearl children are each born of the vice that a man despised within himself, and so cast away. While their appearance is disturbing verging on the obscene--each a faint blue fetus with barely any human feature to it, and an umbilicus that trails after it as it drifts slowly through the air--a Pearl Child is usually nigh unto harmless until it witnesses a man or woman commit the sin of which it was formed. While it does paw it its victims' faces with angry, shaking, stubby hands and stare at them with unblinking embryonic eyes, this is harmless; the cord that trails from their abdomen is stronger than any man, and long enough to bind hands and strangle unto death. They are often summoned to protect small children--they cluster around true innocence and defend it by any means necessary, even when unbound. However, unless otherwise commanded, they often sadly strangle their charges rather than let them be sullied by the world.
